  2. If you want Rush music with strings... I saw on the Prog Magazine website that The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's are to release a tribute to Rush album featuring Arian Smith of Iron Maiden and Marillion's Steve Rothery making guest appearances. http://www.progrockmag.com/news/rush-or ... e-rothery/
  3. Well... "Clockwork Angels" was my album of the year (yes, I know the year is far from over) but all that changed when "Sounds That Can't Be Made" entered my life last weekend. The opening song "Gaza" is one of the most stunning peices of sonic art ever.
  4. I still find "Discipline" a challenging listen (maybe I'm not as prog as I like to think I am).
  5. Probably some local rock band such as Gaskin or Limelight. The first gig with bands that some people in the rest of the world might have heard of was Theakston's Festival at Nostell Priory in 1982 with Jethro Tull headlining. It was also my first time seeing Marillion live. I can't remember the full line up but Lindisfarne and The Paul Jones Blues Band were also on the bill.
  6. Baroness Deep Purple Marillion Rush Amplifier
  7. There's an interview with Baroness on eMusic... http://www.emusic.com/listen/#/music-news/...view-baroness/:
  8. I bought "Yellow & Green" yesterday. I'm just over half way through the green disc at the moment & I'm loving it. It sounds to me to have a similar vibe to Mastodon's "The Hunter" (perhaps a little less bombastic though).
  9. A very sad loss to the world.
  10. After Fish left Marillion Ben Volpeliere-Pierrot of Curiosity Killed the Cat auditioned as a replacement singer.
  11. QUOTE (ColdFireYYZ @ Jul 4 2012, 11:34 AM) The cellist left but she made a guest appearance on one track. I forgot what song it is but I think it's Read Your Mind. She wasn't replaced. Edit: Listening to the album now and Read Your Mind is the track she played on. Thanks for the feedback. I'll look out for this release.
  12. QUOTE (Enemy Within 77 @ Jul 13 2012, 11:03 PM) QUOTE (Imaginos @ Jul 13 2012, 01:49 PM) She's got a Janis Joplin thing going on. Yeah, but Grace doesn't annoy the living shit outta me like janis does.
  13. She's got a Janis Joplin thing going on.
  14. I only have these 4 albums... "Camel" "Moon Madness" "The Snow Goose" "Rain Dances" (my wife has "A Live Record") ...what should I get next?
  15. Has anybody on this here forum got/heard the new Asia album "XXX"? Is it worth buying? I suspect it will be pipe & slippers "dad rock" but I hear that Mr Wetton's pipes are still in good condition.
  16. It's many albums ago since Geddy's voice sounded as good as it does on "Clockwork Angels" so it's a big fat no from me.
  17. This weeks main albums have been... Rush - "Clockwork Angels" Ginger Wildheart - "100%" Panic Room - "Skin" Marillion - "Live - New York 12th & 13th June 2012" Chris Robinson Brotherhood - "Big Moon Ritual"
  18. My vote went to "Fly From Here" although I've never actually heard "Magnification".
  19. I know Lost In Xanadu said not to list pop acts but I feel the need to post the following statement... I DETEST ABBA!!! ...and I'm sick of hearing people say "everone loves ABBA"... no they f**king don't!
  20. Next gig = Bonafide on 2nd August.
  21. I've not bought/heard a better album yet this year & there have been some bloody good releases so far this year.
  22. Ginger Wildheart - "100%"... I'm loving this album. Panic Room - "Skin" Chris Robinson Brotherhood - "Big Moon Ritual"
