  1. Well, from the recent interview in Classic Rock magazine (Rush: The Rise and Rise of the World's Biggest Cult Band), it sounds like those of you who don't want the skits will be disappointed: "Nobody takes the piss out of themselves to the extremes that we do: says Geddy. It's early evening and conversation has turned to the film shorts that are regular highlights of the band's live show. Lifeson, who has something of a minor acting sideline going on - watch out for him soon as Dr Figg opposite Billy Boyd in the adaptation of Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy is, everyone agrees, very keen to get in front of the camera. "I don't care what else he acts in," says Geddy, "he always acts best in our films. I always think of the most ridiculous get-ups for him. 'Al, how about you be a real fat guy?' He really takes to it. Those three characters that appeared in the films from the Time Machine tour are the three essential character aspects of us. "When we designed those characters, I wanted them to represent the inner us: inside Big Al is this big, fat, crazy inventor, who loves to eat - that's Al. And Neil's got the furrowed-brow Irishman with the Waspy background and I'm this crazy sausage maker! The wigs are very good too. "I think it's fun, and sometimes it's funny to watch the audience, especially somewhere like Helsinki - some things don't cross the language barrier. You look out and it's this sea of perplexed faces, an audience of bewilderment. We're going to continue to make them. I hope people like them! The first time I saw Jethro Tull was on the Thick As A Brick tour and they were so good playing-wise, but their production was so much fun - they had a sense of humour that kept occurring and it really stayed with me as what a lovely bonus to give an audience that's sitting there for three hours listening to this intense music - and our music is a little on the bombastic side, so I think it's nice to give some candy. It's nice to see them smiling." Aww, I like to see the guys smile, and I'm glad they feel the same way about us. I for one like the skits, so I'll be smiling for sure
  2. One good thing is, the album is in his current vocal range, so at least he won't have to reach beyond it.
  3. QUOTE (mstmompj @ May 19 2012, 09:02 AM) QUOTE (Janie @ May 18 2012, 10:05 AM) Damn, that man is hot. To look at, as well as this (quote from Geddy, the lucky sonofagun): "When we were living at the London Hotel here, while we're mixing the first time around before Andrew passed, right around two or three in the morning I'd be just drifting off to sleep and I'd hear this acoustic guitar playing and I'd be, 'I know that sound.' And Big Al would be out on his balcony, which was right underneath mine - he'd had some refreshment, apparently - and he'd be playing to LA. He plays all the time. "And I would just lie there in the darkness and look up at the ceiling with this huge smile on my face every night even if he had just woken me up. I knew the headspace he was in and I knew what he was doing - he was being Al and he was playing to LA. Those moments are forever - so sweet, so funny." http://cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/classic-rock-07.2012.php When I read this part, my eyes teared up and I started sniffling. How can anyone not adore these guys? Most lovable band ever

  6. QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ May 18 2012, 07:37 PM) QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ Nov 5 2011, 06:28 PM) ...You listen to songs by other artists and insert insane air-drum/tapping-on-everything-in-reach fills in parts where the drums seem inadequate compared to Rush. Haha I was doing this at the Rammstein concert I went to, and I'm pretty sure I looked like a fool. Their music seems SO simple compared to Rush I have an update to this one. I was putting one of those little containers of cream in my coffee and tapping on the bottom to get the last drops out. My boyfriend asks me, "Are you playing the drums?" I told him I wasn't really paying attention, then added, "Oh wait, I can play Rush!" and pulled over the bowl full of coffee creamers and started tapping furiously on all of them
  7. Wow, second time I've said water in a row! My drinking habits are getting healthier, I guess!
  8. Welcome back! I became a (serious) Rush fan and joined the site while you were away. I look forward to getting to know you and sharing the excitement of the upcoming album and tour! Hang in there - your long wait is nearly over!
  9. Hiking/walking Cross-country skiing Ham radio (not as much anymore) Journal/travelogue writing much like Neil's (I write about vacations we take, almost always to see rock concerts, and the accompanying road trips/meetups/visits to points of interest like museums & national parks). Taking pictures (anyone on Facebook with me can tell you I've taken hundreds just of woods/trees). I enjoy meeting astronauts and space industry workers and if possible, collecting their autographs I used to scrapbook and make cards in the days before digital photography and social networking. Have also done some costuming. I really should make a Kugel costume for the upcoming tour, since it's my nickname among some of my Facebook Rush friends
  10. Mary Jane's Last Dance - Tom Petty - obvious she's dead in the video. Stay - Shakespear's Sister (creepy video) The Way - Fastball
  11. Okay, I gotta remember to take my debut album back out to the car; then I'll get started. I'm not going to worry about "points" because I have a very short drive to work and usually get only one or two songs in on the way there and on the way home. I do better when I drive to my boyfriend's, or we drive somewhere and go for a hike. I'm also gonna have an issue with Vapor Trails as I still don't own it. Maybe I'll buy it soon.
  12. QUOTE (tripdad @ May 17 2012, 03:37 PM) Hotel booked! Ours too! So psyched for my first con.
  13. If I have to go, I can wait until intermission. Luckily, I haven't had to go at either of my last two shows. We usually find our seats before the show, my boyfriend sits down, and I go back out to the merch stand. We sit and chill during intermission, and in Hershey we chatted with a guy right in front of us we'd met at the meetup.
  14. Gonna have to go with reserved. While GA would give me a lot better chance of getting up front, I don't know if I could last the whole day to get there early enough, and I bet I'd get hurt with people packing in. I'm even getting nervous about being in the third row with reserved seats. Oh well, I'm slightly overweight and not really short, so I'm at least a little tough to shove around

  17. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and today!
  18. My cat dumped a vaseful of water into my keyboard Sunday. It quit working, so I took it apart to try and dry it out, and couldn't get it back together right (either that, or it was toasted anyway). Had to buy a new one, and I HATE it (spacebar doesn't work worth crap, and I think the letters are going to wear off the keys). This is not what I need with a bad flare-up of my joint pain this week It's a good thing my cat is so cute.
  19. Well, if they end up playing CA in its entirety, they'll play BU2B right after Caravan. It would be cool if it followed Alex's solo, but it's looking like that may not be the plan.
  20. I said June 3rd just for the heck of it...picked a date about a week before.
  21. ^ Cute! But Geddy needs a burger...or two
  22. Long ago the mould was cast
