  1. QUOTE (danielmclark @ Apr 21 2012, 08:33 AM)Who is this... "Rush"... you speak of? I'm guessing they make music? Are they any good? Ohh....I remember. That band broke up in the early 70's after their drummer quit. I heard they found a replacement, but he wanted to stay working at some tractor parts store....oh well....
  2. QUOTE (jacob's ladder @ Apr 21 2012, 07:04 AM) Has anyone heard the single yet.... What single?
  3. The Brewers blew it in the 9th, so I'm gonna just sit here and pout....
  4. The "big steel wheel" section sounds good to me, but I found those verses at the end to be redundant. Unnecessary. Made the song too long......
  5. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Apr 20 2012, 05:20 PM)QUOTE (D3strukt @ Apr 20 2012, 11:37 AM) We just recorded a string section yesterday for five of the songs That was a hell of a lot more interesting to me than all the BS about pot. I guess if Architectural Digest interviewed them they'd talk about their houses and shit. Anyway, I can only hope for strings - it's not keyboards, but it'd still be damn cool! I think the band will employ just about any musical instrument if they think it will help the song sound good. Piano, mandolin, synth, vibraslap, or a full symphony orchestra...... .......and more power to them!
  6. QUOTE (metaldad @ Apr 20 2012, 11:03 AM) Does anyone like a good Peanut Butter sandwich once and awhile ? With marshmallow fluff......on very fresh white bread......and maybe with some sliced bananas.....
  7. QUOTE (gedfan @ Apr 20 2012, 03:42 PM) QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Apr 20 2012, 01:33 PM) QUOTE You know, you hear stories about how certain bands get along, or don't get along - separate dressing rooms, separate travel arrangements; they don't say a word to each other for a whole tour. I can't possibly imagine something like that. well, al and ged do have separate travel arrangements than neil Neil said that it's because they are too chicken-shit to be real men and ride motorcyles, like he does......
  8. QUOTE (D3strukt @ Apr 20 2012, 01:37 PM)We just recorded a string section yesterday for five of the songs I should hope so......six strings on Alex's guitar, and four strings on Geddy's bass......

  10. QUOTE (Snaked @ Apr 19 2012, 07:53 PM) I've gotten front row from Music Today a couple of times and within the first 5 rows several times. But it is luck of the draw.. I've also been shut out.. *shrugs* I'm unfamiliar with Music Today. I tried going to the website (musictoday.com), but I was sent a Ticketmaster merchandise page. What's it all about?
  11. QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ Apr 19 2012, 07:27 PM)QUOTE (GangsterOnBoats @ Apr 18 2012, 11:54 AM) http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/exc...flight-20120418 This song is f***ing awesome. That is all. Oh, come ON!!! You just GOTTA come up with something argumentative, adversarial, critical,....anything to provoke some sort of disagreement over this new song......come ON!!! Stop being so f***ing positive.....
  12. QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Apr 19 2012, 07:15 PM)QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Apr 19 2012, 07:09 PM) QUOTE (Gedneil Alpeart @ Apr 19 2012, 07:05 PM) And The Garden is about their plans to become horticulturalists after they retire? being the green thumb that i am, i think i'm really going to like the garden. i hope neil uses basil and oregano in the lyrics. I plant the carrots with conviction While my thoughts turn towards the stew The soil in my hands makes we wonder What is this all about to brew? [chorus] I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep In a field where I till far down I can't stop planting deep!
  13. QUOTE (gedfan @ Apr 19 2012, 06:56 PM) QUOTE (quantex @ Apr 19 2012, 06:55 PM) Headlong Flight is not the song to be worried about the message that it is the end of the band...Wish Them Well is about the end of the band, and moving forward..... source? I don't think we'll get a source or evidence of any kind. Therefore, we should ignore this thread.
  14. QUOTE (Sir Lerxst @ Apr 19 2012, 05:48 PM) I actually prefer the 5:05 radio edit. I feel that the 7:20 version is just stretched out a little too long. I find the spoken section a little bit pointless, as it doesn't add anything new to the story - but perhaps its out of context without the rest of the songs before it. I haven't heard the edited version yet, but I totally agree with ya. Several parts could be cut with no bad side effects. The spoken section and the redundant verses at the end could be cut.
  15. QUOTE (treeduck @ Apr 19 2012, 03:40 PM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ Apr 19 2012, 11:42 AM) I don't know how this guy went so wrong. Drugs? Booze? Women? Smarties? Too many chocolate Easter eggs? More like a family tradition of dysfunction, as the behavior of his racist father would indicate.
  16. QUOTE (eshine @ Apr 19 2012, 03:32 PM)For a song that supposedly lacks any "melody" - I havent been able to get the chorus of Headlong Flight out of my head since yesterday. I don't think it's completely melody-free, but it's not as melodic as other songs. You're right about the chorus; I've been taking quite a liking to it!
  17. This video should be nominated for some award, be it a Grammy or whatever. It's the slickest thing I've seen in many years......
  18. QUOTE (LyndseyG @ Apr 19 2012, 01:36 PM) The only problem I'm having is hearing it on my iPhone. There's at least one version on YouTube and none of the links anyone has posted so far play! On my iPhone, I went to the Yahoo search window and typed "Rush official tv". It gave me the link to rush.com, which went directly to the website's video of the song. You can also go to your web address bar and type in "rush.com", and it should take you there.
  19. QUOTE (Animate @ Apr 19 2012, 10:22 AM) Given the alternative, I would do it all again, especially if it it could be done with the "knowing then what I know now part"! Hey! No cheating!!
  20. QUOTE (Animate @ Apr 19 2012, 10:05 AM)QUOTE (Gompers @ Apr 19 2012, 09:57 AM) QUOTE (Dscrapre @ Apr 19 2012, 09:01 AM) Neil explicitly stated that the lyrics were inspired by the death of Freddie Gruber. He also said that he didn't want to live his life again. Not a goodbye for Rush. The fire in this song may be an indication of a new inspiration. They simply won't quit, especially if they had fun making the record. They will be back. I sure hope you guys are right. As far as quoting Neil when he said he would not want to live his life over again, I would not extrapolate that to be the absolute gospel on how he feels at either this present moment, or how he felt while penning the lyrics. Life is more complicated then that. Surely, most people on this board have felt one extreme or another in their life? Would anyone really want to live his/her life all over again? Really? Honestly? I sure wouldn't. If I had a choice, I would go back to infancy and lead a NEW life. Not because I think my life has sucked, but because I would want to experience the NEW....not redo what I've already done. That's what life is all about - EXPERIENCE. I want to experience everything possible.....
  21. Geddy has stated that they take their career as it comes. They don't look into the future and plan anything long term. After they finish an album and tour, they take a break and go from there. If they feel that they've had enough, they'll just hang it up, with no fanfare or melodrama. I can't see them doing anything as self-serving as a "Farewell Tour".
  22. QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Apr 19 2012, 08:11 AM) QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Apr 19 2012, 07:31 AM) People...start trying to request HF on your local radio stations! Rush must be heard! While I agree this song must be heard, i'm not sure if the people who regularly listen to the classic rock station in my area are worthy of hearing it. If listeners are too busy requesting Stairway to Heaven and Free Bird, then they DON'T deserve any new Rush....
  23. Alas, I do not think I'll be reading the novel. I was so disgusted by Anderson's destruction of the final Dune novels (with the help of Brian Herbert) that I swore I would NEVER read anything else by Anderson. Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune were the absolute WORST pieces of prose fiction that I have ever read. It was as if they wrote it for retarded 12 year-olds.....
