  1. QUOTE (DistantEarlyRushFan @ Jun 17 2012, 09:51 PM)An EP does not count as a studio ALBUM Why not? They made it in the studio. I don't think it matters that it's all cover songs. Many bands of the past put out albums that were barely over 30 minutes in length. Van Halen II = 10 songs, 32 minutes; Fair Warning = 9 songs, 30:58 Feedback = 8 songs, 27 minutes
  2. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 17 2012, 05:46 PM) QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ Jun 17 2012, 05:36 PM) I don't even know what shoe-horning means It's when a man has stronger feelings than normal for his wife's footwear... So, if any of us see some guy loitering around the ladies' shoe department, we should go ask him about the new Rush album?
  3. QUOTE (kbomb106 @ Jun 16 2012, 06:11 PM) Playing with other people is technically playing with yourself? Hmm.... The OP stated that the string quartet would dress up like Rush, and then joked about the band "playing with themselves"..... Hope this helps.
  4. QUOTE (CrimsonE @ Jun 16 2012, 01:41 PM) And I remember there is one time when the guitar went out during YYZ, but I can't say for certain which tour it was. I think it was the Presto tour when they played Alpine Valley, WI. Yep, I was there for that one. It was the first time I had ever seen them have a tech glitch......I was both amazed and shocked!!
  5. Call me prudish, but I would rather not watch Geddy, Alex and Neil play with themselves on stage.....
  6. QUOTE (softfilter @ Jun 15 2012, 01:15 PM) In concert, I sometimes wish Neil's drum solo's were "slightly" shorter... I'm not a big fan of drum solos in concert....even Neil's solos. I prefer some sort of group instrumental that features the drums, but a drum solo on its own tends to bore me to sleep. Same goes for an extended guitar solo......after the first couple of minutes, I'd like to move on.....
  7. I do remember one thing. It took hours and hours but.... By the time I was done with it I was so involved I didn't know what to think. I carried it around with me for days and days.. Playing little games Like not listening to it for a whole day And then....listening at it. To see if I still liked it. I did. The more I look at it The more I like it. I do think it's good. The fact is.... No matter how closely I study it No matter how I take it apart No matter how I break it down It remains consistant. I wish you were here to hear it. I like it!
  8. When The Wreckers is released as a single, it should be publicized that Geddy and Alex switched instruments. That could generate a lot of interest....
  9. I've listened to it many times now, and most songs have grown on me. I really dig the jams and the overall music; a lot of it is pure brilliance. However, the vocals are still failing to reach me on several songs. Geddy's going overboard at times; it's just not necessary, IMO. Too loud, too up and down in key.....in my ears, the vocals just don't jive with the song at times. It's literally a distraction from the songs. Sometimes, it's more like YELLING than actual singing.....and it's simply not necessary. Also, the lyrics are just not very poetic at times, and that, combined with Geddy's odd vocals, really holds the song back. There's no flow..... and I really like flow.... ....gotta have my flow.....
  10. QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Jun 12 2012, 11:01 PM)QUOTE (jnoble @ Jun 12 2012, 11:58 PM) it always cracks me up how utterly horrified Rolling Stone is that anyone could possibly like or agree with Ayn Rand's writings. If I was Neil I would have stuck up for myself a little more instead of quickly dismissing his 2112 era thinking. For a magazine that likes to tout themselves as so open minded, they sure don't act that way when it comes to politics Bringing up Rand in 2012 is ridiculous and shows how unfamiliar the interviewer is with their music. It also shows that Rush is still being pigeon-holed by the Music Establishment. When you say the name "Rush", the Establishment STILL thinks automatically of Geddy's shrieking vocals, Peart's Randian lyrics, and their "pretentious" prog-rock. Rags like Rolling Stone still define Rush as they were in the 70's, and there is no hope of them ever changing their perspective.
  11. I'm doing my best to let it grow on me. After the first several listens, I must say that I cannot remember any other Rush album in which Geddy's vocals have irritated me this much. But I haven't made any final conclusions yet. I'm going to give this album a LOT of time to grow on me.....
  12. QUOTE (Checkster2112 @ Jun 12 2012, 06:39 PM) It was at mine for $11.88 Same here. I got the last one. I saw none at Target, but then their CD section was only about 8 feet wide at most......
  13. Walked briskly thru the Walmart at 10:40am CST......grabbed the last one, paid for it, walked more briskly out to my car, and headed to work. With each crystal clear note of Caravan, my smile grew wider and wider.... CAN'T WAIT UNTIL QUITTIN' TIME!!!
  14. QUOTE (Gompers @ Jun 12 2012, 09:51 AM) QUOTE (ShlappinDahBass @ Jun 12 2012, 10:41 AM) Even if you have the album, already! Everyone, BUY THE ALBUM AGAIN off of iTunes! Why?
  15. QUOTE (vital signz @ Jun 12 2012, 06:12 AM)I revisit my statement that this will win a Grammy Award, anyone want to get on board with me now? I don't want to stand alone with this but I proudly will! With deep regrets, I cannot get on board. The "Pop/Rock Music Powers That Be" have been biased against Rush forever, so to expect anything different would be futile, IMO. However, I do accept the possibility of the Grammy people shocking the world by giving Rush the award. Kind of like the Jethro Tull shocker from a few years back.....
  16. QUOTE (Syrinx @ Jun 11 2012, 02:59 PM)Yep can't believe I did it. I won a contest to go to a private Q&A later this afternoon with Geddy and Alex for the "unveiling" of CA. Several reasons, the first being my son is pitching in his baseball game tonight and i didn't want to miss it. I have also met them before and it would have been a struggle to get from work to downtown Toronto in time. But I still can't believe I turned it down. And no I couldn't have given the invite away or I would have. Am I nuts? You are a GREAT man and GREAT father. You have your life priorities in good order. You should be proud of what you're doing.
  17. I don't think we can call 'em "babies" anymore.... Pretty soon, they'll be totally free of their white down and ready to try flying. Hopefully, they'll be ready when Mother kicks 'em out for good!! http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff295/unk2112/20120611_19-18-04.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff295/unk2112/20120611_19-24-26.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff295/unk2112/20120611_19-24-35.jpg http://207.138.223.63/view/index.shtml
  18. Dawson had good success on Hogan's Heroes, but he became a real star on the Match Game show. http://school.mapleshade.org/ravizius/period7/Maerten-Matt/Images/dawson%20matchgame.jpg He became such a popular star (especially with the female contestants) that the producers actually had to change the rules of the game. All the women (and many of the men) kept picking Richard to match answers and win the big money. The producers then had the contestants spin a wheel to get a star at random.... His success on Match Game enabled him to land the Family Feud gig.....
  19. I found out today that a childish prick co-worker, with whom I've had to work every day for the past two years, has gotten himself suspended indefinitely....and will most likely be fired for gross misconduct. I knew it was only a matter of time. A new plant manager was hired recently, and he has finally installed some backbone into the management staff. The childish prick co-worker, who had long enjoyed carte blanche to do whatever he wanted, was obviously upset at the hiring. Now, he's most probably gone....and I won't miss him one bit.....

  21. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 9 2012, 01:44 PM) QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Jun 9 2012, 10:33 AM) QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 8 2012, 03:28 PM) What if they were offering the secret of free energy, interstellar space travel, artificial intelligence and matter-energy converting replicators? I would take everything except the A.I., and give them Moving Pictures in return. Fair deal...... Scared of a robot revolution? Skynet?? Battlestar Galactica? Blade Runner? All of the above!!
  22. QUOTE (Your_Lion @ Jun 9 2012, 07:09 AM) Besides...everyone knows when the Vulcans made first contact, Zefram Cochrane didn't play them Rush...he played them 'Ooby Dooby' Which , quite understandably, motivated the Vulcans to appoint themselves our interstellar babysitters. They had a duty to protect the galaxy from such an illogical and obnoxious species......

  24. Still no urge to sneak a listen. I'm thoroughly enjoying my vacation. Tuesday is the last thing on my mind.......
