1966, the British Invasion bands really hit their stride:

Revolver - The Beatles

Aftermath - The Rolling Stones

Face to Face - The Kinks

A Quick One - The Who

1966, Dylan cements his genius with:

Blonde on Blonde

1966, Rock music gets experimental and freaky:

Freak Out! - The Mothers of Invention

The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators - The 13th Floor Elevators

Black Monk Time - Monks

1966, the MONKEES!!!

I'm still confused.

Are we sticking with one year at a time, or just posting years at random?

One year at a time. The idea is we spent some time (up to a week unless people get bored early) discussing music from that year, then we move onto the next. So at the latest, next Tuesday will be 1966.

MS101 decided to post 1973 for whatever reason.

I see - he says "up to a week." And that we can move along if we get bored early. :)

Lol

Ill put the Kinks run from Face to Face up until Muswell Hillbillies amongst the best ever. Certainly on par with anything the Beatles or Stones did during that same period.

In May of 1966, the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album is released. Followed in October by the genius of the stand-alone single Good Vibrations, Pet Sounds - described at the time as the "most progressive pop album ever - would inspire the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's... album.
