Lorraine
A side note.... I think Lorraine has really hit onto something with this thread. One of the things that makes Ged's singing so poignant is these are not his lyrics. Sure, the guys are friends and Ged probably knows what Neil is trying to say with the words, but the fact he takes the lyrics, some of which are not always easy in the mainstream sense of rock and roll, and makes them his own has always impressed this Rush fan. That's it exactly, and it can't be easy for him to do since he didn't write them, but he manages to put life and emotion into them that touch us. Sometimes my eyes fill with tears and I don't know why - it's not particularly the lyrics that move me as much as how he is singing them.
WorkingAllTheTime
And, i really think he sang extremely well the lyrics on YYZ. Just incredible. It turns out there are indeed lyrics to YYZ. I did not realize this until Rush in Rio.... but there they were. 50K+ people singing along to YYZ....
Lorraine
Here's an example - Between The Camera Eye? When he sings "another lost generation" - just something about the way he sings it.

Yes, Neil is a robot with his drumming, but he is the lyricist and adds his emotion in that way. Alex and Geddy, I think, play with a great degree of emotion (Alex, particularly). I understand these guys are scientific about their music is a number of ways, but they have always had an element of humanity that makes their work art. The fact they have connected with so many people over the decades speaks volumes to that reality. The critics who say their music is too timed, too coordinated, etc., I think, seem to miss the point.
WorkingAllTheTime
Here's an example - Between The Camera Eye? When he sings "another lost generation" - just something about the way he sings it. I think you mean Between the Wheels, but yes. But also yes to The Camera Eye... They seem obliviousTo a soft spring rainLike an English rainSo light, yet endlessFrom a leaden sky The first time I heard that song, I had not been to England, but I felt as if I had. I felt as if I knew what a soft spring/English rain was.

I'm not at the bottom of the Rush fan ladder for nothing. :rfl:

The Cat 3
Lots of examples I could mention.... But one that always gets me is his delivery in "Mission", particularly We each pay a fabulous priceFor our visions of paradise That is a great example... ...his delivery hits me everytime.

WorkingAllTheTime
The final "right" in The Color of Right. I would suggest the whole song is a good example. That's a gem on an otherwise less recognized album.
