We finally own a game against a team arguably worse than us. Yay. Good thing too, fans were headed to the Linc with torches.. they are so ready to run Chip out of town...

Will that win save him from the hot seat?

Not sure, but I dont think so. There's no confidence in the system - D on the field too much, O line is not good, and so his system suffers. he also seems to suffer from Andy Reid disease - lack of adjustments during game. He's on thin ice w the fans.

Most Eagles head coaches are on thin ice with the fans though aren't they?

Reid wasn't always on thin ice. care to go through the rest of the recent list? Rich Kotite? Buddy Ryan? Ray Rhodes? Lots of losers there. Have to go back to Vermeil for a guy everyone loved.

There's a rumour that Chip may go to USC next season now that they fired Sarkisian.

Yes, we've heard that. At this point, he may get a fan-funded plane ticket :)

Brees has his 90th 300-yard game, closes in on Peyton’s record

Saints quarterback Drew Brees passed for 312 yards in Thursday night’s win over the Falcons, and in doing so he became just the second player in NFL history with 90 games of at least 300 passing yards.

That moves Brees to within striking distance of Peyton Manning, who owns the NFL record with 92 games of at least 300 passing yards.

Given the players’ ages and their current quality of play, Brees seems a near certainty to break Manning’s record, probably this year. Brees has topped 300 yards in four of his five games this season, while Manning has topped 300 yards only once in five games this season. If both players keep playing the way they’ve been playing, Brees will break Manning’s record within the next month or so. No one else is close to Manning and Brees on the 300-yard games list; Tom Brady is in third place, with 66.

Brees is already the record holder for 300-yard games in a season (13 in 2011) and consecutive 300-yard games (nine, a streak he has accomplished on two separate occasions). He’ll soon have every 300-yard game record in the book.

Saints cut kicker Zach Hocker, sign Kai Forbath

Kickers usually only get scapegoated after losses.

But after missing a pair of field goals in last Thursday’s win over the Falcons, the Saints have parted ways with Zach Hocker.

According to Nick Underhill of the New Orleans Advocate, the Saints are replacing Hocker with Kai Forbath.

Hocker was 9-of-13 on field goals in six games for the Saints, and missed an extra point.

Forbath was cut by Washington in part of declining distance on kickoffs. But he’s an 87 percent career kicker of field goals, and that’s what the Saints are hoping for.

Get off his lawn: Saints coach Joe Vitt injured chasing burglars

The Saints have recently rediscovered how to defend their home turf.

Maybe they learned it from Joe Vitt.

According to Ramon Antonio Vargas of the New Orleans Advocate, the veteran assistant coach suffered some serious injuries while chasing burglars away last weekend.

Vitt suffered a torn Achilles tendon and broke his wrist after falling down when he was running after two people who were breaking into his and his neighbor’s cars.

The Saints said Vitt “has not missed any work” after being hospitalized.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Vitt was at home at 3:50 a.m. Saturday when he saw a shadow moving across his lawn. He stepped outside to investigate and saw a blonde woman wearing gloves trying to open his neighbor’s car. He then noticed a man in his own car, and chased the two off, before falling down injured.

Anyone with information about the burglars is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or the Sheriff’s Office at 504.364.5300.

The 61-year-old Vitt has been with the team since 2006, and served as interim coach for 10 games in 2012, after his own six-game suspension for the team’s bounty scandal.

Michael Mauti scores NFC special teams player of the week

Posted by Josh Alper on October 21, 2015, 10:07 AM EDT

Steve Gleason was at the Superdome last Thursday night to watch the Saints battle the Falcons, which conjured up memories of his blocked punt in the same stadium against the same team in the 2006 game that marked the Saints’ return to the stadium after Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans.

Those memories became even harder to escape when Saints linebacker Michael Mauti blocked a punt and fell on it for a touchdown in the first quarter of the game. Beyond the shared stadium and opponent, Mauti, whose father played for the Saints, was also at the game that featured Gleason’s memorable block.

That made Thursday night a special occasion for Mauti even before he was named the NFC’s special teams player of the week in recognition of his big play. Gleason didn’t win those honors after his blocked punt, although he did take the award in 2002 arter blocking a punt against the Panthers.

Colts rule Adams out, list Geathers as doubtful

Posted by Zac Jackson on October 23, 2015, 1:17 PM EDT

The Colts knew they were dealing with injury issues at safety this week, and Colts coach Chuck Pagano on Friday ruled starting safety Mike Adams out of Sunday’s game vs. the Saints.

Clayton Geathers, who’s been the team’s third safety, will be listed as doubtful.

The Colts prepared for this situation earlier in the week when they promoted safety Dewey McDonald from the practice squad. Colt Anderson is the likely starter alongside Dwight Lowery vs. the Saints.

Adams has four interceptions on the season, tying him for the NFL lead with Charles Woodson of the Raiders and Josh Norman of the Panthers. Adams returned an interception of Tom Brady 14 yards for a touchdown last week before injuring his hamstring.

The Colts play at the Panthers and vs. the Broncos before their bye the weekend of Nov. 15, so Adams’ situation is one to watch.

Saints OT Armstead plans to play Sunday

Saints left tackle Terron Armstead has missed two games due to a knee injury, but Armstead told reporters Thursday he plans to return to action Sunday when the Saints play at the Colts.

Armstead, a third-year player, did not practice Wednesday and was listed as a limited participant Thursday.

Armstead told reporters he got hurt on the first drive vs. the Cowboys on Oct. 4 and had “serious swelling” after the game. He missed the Saints’ Oct. 11 game at Philadelphia, then couldn’t get healthy enough to play in a short-week situation last Thursday vs. the Falcons.

Andrus Peat started in place of Armstead last week and suffered a knee injury that could keep him out for a month, making Armstead’s potential return more important for the 2-4 Saints.

Kenny Vaccaro: People say Andrew Luck has “deceptive” speed because he’s white

Posted by Michael David Smith on October 23, 2015, 8:51 AM EDT

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is fast. His 4.67-second 40-yard dash time at the 2012 Scouting Combine was faster than some wide receivers, and he has already gained more than 1,000 rushing yards in his career. Anyone who watches him knows he’s a great athlete.

Except those who watch him and see only his skin color.

When a football player who’s a great athlete also happens to be white, there’s often a qualifier attached to his athleticism. He’s “sneaky athletic.” Or the athleticism comes not from his genes but from being a “blue-collar” worker and a “gym rat.” Or he has “deceptive speed.”

That last label was used to describe Luck in a question to Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro this week, and Vaccaro wasn’t having it. When Vaccaro was asked if Luck’s “deceptive speed” makes it tough to prepare to play against the Colts on Sunday, Vaccaro pushed back against that label.

“Not deceptive. Just because he’s white doesn’t mean he’s deceptive. He’s actually a great athlete. He has all the tools that you ask for as a quarterback,” Vaccaro said, via Mike Triplett of ESPN. “Smart, big arm talent, can go through all his reads and he can run. So not deceptive, he’s actually athletic.”

Vaccaro is right. Members of the media should think about the labels they put on athletes. There’s nothing deceptive about Andrew Luck’s speed.

Saints add two defensive backs, dump two receivers

Posted by Mike Florio on October 24, 2015, 4:46 PM EDT

As the Saints get ready to try to slow down an Indianapolis passing attack with plenty of talented weapons, New Orleans has added a pair of defensive backs to the active roster.

Akeem Davis and Sammy Seamster were promoted from the practice squad. The moves were prompted by the fact that cornerback Keenan Lewis (hip, illness) and cornerback Damian Swann (concussion) are both out.

To create a pair of roster spots, the Saints have waived receiver T.J. Graham, and they terminated the contract of veteran receiver Joe Morgan (pictured).

The 2-4 Saints face the 3-3 Colts on Sunday, in a rematch of Super Bowl XLIV. The last time these teams met, the Saints won in New Orleans, 62-7.
