savagegrace26
Objective Facts: It was released on November 21, 1989 Tour started on February 17, 1990 (so no songs were actually performed live in concet until the 90's) Opinion "Facts": It was a major shift in style from the very 80's sounding Power Windows and Hold Your Fire It's style is closer to what Rush would sound like in the 90's than the 80's (they were back to a more "stripped down organic approach" or whatever the hell Alex would say) So I consider this one to be a 90's album....since it was released so late in 1989 most people didn't listen to it until the 90's and actually hear the songs performed until '90's and it's more closely associated with the bands '90's output... Therefore it's a 90's ALBUM! Edited December 14, 2014 by savagegrace26

Lorraine
I was still listening to a lot of music back then. When I hear Presto now, it sounds to me like it belongs to pre-1985. By the time it came out, the sound it had was already on its way out. I don't know if I am making myself clear. Put another way - Presto was past its time.

Presto is one of Rush's most unique sounding albums and has that mix of old and new feel to it. It's timeless to me and doesn't fit with the early 80's at all. It evokes the 80s sound but also feels like a new direction. It feels like it exists on a timeless cold winter night.
bluefox4000
i can't say anything bad against ol Presto. my pick for most underrated rush album. I love neil's drum sound here. While most bash it. Presto rules. Mick

savagegrace26
It sounds dated to me on account of the heavy synth sound. Which the majority of the tracks don't have (save for heavy use on Scars and Red Tide). A couple of tracks (Available Light) have piano. Most of the tracks only have synth "accents". Kind of like Permanent Waves. Edited December 14, 2014 by savagegrace26

Mr. Not
I've said it's a 90's album for the OP's reason. If we're being technical, yes, it's an 80's album, and should be ranked among other 1980-1989 albums if one is to do a "top 50 albums of the 80's". EagleMoon
It sounds very 80s to me which is one reason that I don't care for it. A lot of songs in basic 4/4. There are also the staccato shimmery rhythm guitar parts like Chain Lightening, i.e. The Police, and Red Tide i.e.The Go-Go's. Presto sounds much more dated than their other albums. Counterparts has its 80's moments i.e. (The Enemy Within) but it's further back in the decade. Presto and The Pass sound more timeless.
