BearFan
Marlins seem to be trying to make a run at something this year. More Dodgers on the movean Diego • A person with knowledge of the situation says the San Diego Padres have a deal in place to acquire outfielder Matt Kemp and catcher Tim Federowicz from the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers for catcher Yasmani Grandal and two pitchers. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday because the deal hadn’t been announced by either team. The Padres are due to receive some $30 million to help offset the $107 million still remaining on Kemp’s deal, which must be approved by the commissioner’s office.San Diego has been desperate for a power bat to punch up its woeful offense. Kemp had a strong second half in 2014 for the NL West champion Dodgers, finishing with a .287 average, 25 home runs and 89 RBIs.

WorkingAllTheTime
Chicago baseball should be exciting next year!Maybe they'll still be playing for something in July this year. An All-Star team roster spot? In all seriousness, the White Sox are clearly making moves to get back into contention. The Cubs are definitely moving in the right direction. Quality manager? Check. New staff ace? Check. Key position needs? Check. I am not ready to say the Cubs will be playing meaningful baseball next fall, but it is no longer a stretch to think so and 2016 seems to be a very legitimate possibility. The main thing for next year is for the young guys to assimilate to the majors, anything else will be gravy. By 2016, they need to at worst be playing meaningful baseball into the last week of the season.

invisible airwave
Padres would have had a better record had they scored more runs. The pitching improved last season and now they got a marquee superstar in Kemp which they haven't had in a hitter since the late Tony Gwynn.
