Get your skiis shined up
Grab a stick of Juicy Fruit
The taste is gonna move ya
Take a sniff
Pull it out
The taste is gonna move ya when you pop it in your mouth
Juicy Fruit - the taste is gonna move ya!

Dentists recommend you chew your gum for at least 15 to 20 minutes. By then the sugar/sweetener is finished and your mouth's had a chance to wash it away. Gum with Xylitol probably does prevent cavities, so that's the sweetener you should be looking for.

No one's been able to prove that chewing gum is harmful to the jaws. But be that as it may, I've stopped chewing unless it's an emergency because I think it gives me headaches.

If you have TMJ it is plenty harmful to your jaws.

Everytime you chew, your jaw will dislocate. Depending on the severity of your TMJ, chewing gum can be very harmful. If you get headaches from chewing gum, you might want to investigate the possibility of TMJ.

I've had TMJ and while there is debate over treatment, I found a dentist who was experimenting and since undergoing his treatment have not had a problem since.

I don't know what TMJ is, but I have what I think's called a retracted mandibula in English. My jaws aren't properly aligned. I was supposed to have oral surgery done, to break the joints and reconnect the lower jaw where it's supposed to be. I also get headaches from hard-coated peanuts.

Edit: Yeah, I chickened out of the surgery.

TMJ=Temporal Mandibular Joint Syndrome.

Do not get the surgery. It causes more problems than it fixes. In fact I believe most dentists and oral surgeons have basically given up this treatment.

My TMJ was so bad that I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to fit more than one finger width in. (Heh, one could say since treatment, I can easily insert my foot in there wink.gif ) I had pain daily and eating hard food was difficult.

The dentist I saw, used basically the same treatment they would on a child for bite correction. I had retainer thingys expand my mouth (little did you know I have a small mouth laugh.gif )and then braces to correct my teeth alignment. Painful process. It took just over 3 years, but I've never had a problem since.

If you don't seek treatment, that little disk in your mandibular joint is going to degrade all to hell, you'll get arthritis in that joint etc. etc.

My jaw hasn't been the same since I wrecked it back in December.  It's improved, but not a whole lot.

It sucks man..

What did they say was wrong Barn?

Can it be fixed?

Bit into a hamburger or something or yawned too much out east.

It cracked and it's never been straight since. My dentist referred me to a specialist in Feb but we never did get connected. I will try again now that I have time.

what would constitute a gum-chewing emergency? on a hot date with the possibility of kissing and you're about to leave a restaurant after a garlic-heavy Italian meal?

if so, try this:

Eclipse is always in my car for emergencies - STRONG gum! My wife just introduced me to Altoids though (curiously strong! laugh.gif ) and those are like using a butane torch to remove bad breath laugh.gif
