Makes no sense. Trying to explain it will prove my point.

What part of it makes no sense?

 

The best song gets *asterisks*

The worst song gets <brackets>

Other standouts get italics

Particularly bad tracks (in comparison to the rest) get blue text

 

Or is it the "out of 15" thing that you don't get? I posted the rubric on TOST... then again nobody ever goes there...

A scale of 1 - 10 makes perfect sense. Why complicate it?

Because, as I said, since I only really rate artists I like, 85% of songs would likely get crammed into 4 ratings (6/7/8/9). Here, there's much more "breathing room" and ratings are less ambiguous (For example I would often enjoy one 8 quite a bit more than another, while now most 11s are about the same)

Why not just use a 100-pt. scale then?

Because then there's virtually no difference between, say, a 78 and a 79, and there'd still be a long negative tail (part of what I was trying to correct), meaning that it would still be skewed but at the same time the rating itself would be less meaningful (and MUCH harder to decide)

The music is all decent but FU, TBW and YBYL are three of the worst songs they ever wrote. The whole album gets a 6/10 rating (weighted TYVM) making it one of the 3 worst studio records in the catalog.

Great summary. Although I'd rank Ghost of a Chance and Where's My Thing "good".

 

Other than that, I agree completely. Dreamline kicks arse... but the album overall is mediocre... and for me it was a HUGE disappointment after masterpiece that is Presto. ;)
