It is really hard to compare them since like Narpski said with the car analogy, Hemispheres is more like a finished product. I personally think Hemispheres sounds unfinished, and that A Farewell To Kings was the better and nore sophisticated accomplishment. Hemispheres sounds tired. Caress Of Steel sounds energetic, spontaneous, full of life and youthfully exuberant. It is the mad hormonal teenage boy of the bands discography! Seriously, so much nire entertaining than anything on Hemispheres. Hemispheres title track is overblown. Circumstances and The Trees don't match up to any of the bands shorter seventies tracks, CoS and after. However, La Villa Strangiato is a masterpiece and the whole of side two works great as a whole. But everything about CoS is delightful. Where some see flaws, I see curiosity and a desire to reach for the stars. If CoS sees the bands ambitions laid bear, Hemispheres is the return to reality after the Honeymoon period of 2112-AFTK. I am not even sorry. And for the record, I still think Hemispheres is great. But the three that came before it, and the two that cam after it are vastly superior. This epic streak of awesome that began with CoS didn't end until Signals, then regained momentum once more with p/g through to Presto. But of all the albums from CoS until Presto, Hemispheres is the second weakest. Btw, Signals is still an amazing record, I am not dissing it. I just happen to prefer all the others!
