A history of black QBs in the NFL

Long (too long to copy/paste) history of black QBs in the NFL. Very interesting stuff (and some commentary that's fairly controversial) but it covers everyone, even Spurgeon Wynn, Nickie Hall, and the replacement guys in 1987..

It's amazing that even 35 years ago, a guy like Warren Moon couldn't get a shot in the NFL, and one can say even now, there's a certain element of stereotyping black QBs....

Remember when the reporter asked Doug Williams at the Super Bowl (***skins) "How long have you been a black quarterback?"

Warren Moon was a great quarterback. I got to see him play when he was at UW (the famous "Moon to Spider" team that led to a Rose Bowl MVP for Moon). He killed it in the Canadian league (5 straight Grey Cups) and, of course, became a great NFL quarterback with the Oilers, and the highest paid player in the league.

One can only wonder, had he been white, what his career path might have been.

This may not have actually been true...

It's definitely not true. However, it's fascinating how this faux-question has become such a strong part of NFL folklore.

I remember Dave Mays QB for the Browns in 1976/77. At the end of his pro football career he was QB for a semi pro team here in Canton. Also played in the WFL early 70's...
