Janie
I just don't get sushi. I've tried it numerous times due to people telling me the problem was I "didn't get good sushi, this is the good stuff" and still, blech. Way overrated. The way it was built-up I was expecting so much more, it was a fine restaurant as well. I still can't down these damn things without gagging, no matter what they're coated in...truly vile! http://i42.tinypic.com/110vptd.jpgOh man, I love Brussels Sprouts. My mom had a favorite story of once when I was about 8 years old, I threw an absolute fit over the fact that she wouldn't make me these. I bet you had sprouts that were over-cooked. They tend to take on an irony/bitter taste when overcooked. If prepared correctly, they have little taste. When I make them, I roast them in the oven and then toss them with a Balsamic vinegar reduction.
Janie
I'll try anything once. I'm not a picky eater and being a cook, I can't stand picky eaters so I try not to be one. Having said that, I have tried this fruit once but will try again even though I gagged for about two days straight is... Durian. Lord have mercy that is some nasty stuff. Texture-wise, I really liked it. And I want to say the taste was mellow but only because the smell is so dang strong, I suspect it throws your other senses off. The texture was of... cantaloupe I would say but the smell was of... expired hard boiled eggs left in some hairy guy's crotch cup and set in the sun for an entire summer. temporary madness
Oh, durian! I've seen it on bizarre foods. Pretty gross. The nastiest thing I had was this taco at the school cafeteria. Every bite made me gag. Of course, it's school food what do you expect. It had probably gone bad...

Our hotel SPECIFICALLY wrote in the rules: "No durians are allowed in this hotel." I didn't even know what the hell one was before that. Soooo, on that trip I tried it twice from a couple of street markets. The first time it was all dried out and had some sugar coating on it (wasn't good but not totally repulsive either). Second time was in its natural state...yeah, not a good smell whatsoever but I can still think of a couple of things nastier...which I'm pretty sure I've already mentioned in this thread Edited September 30, 2013 by JohnnyBlaze

I've heard it's really good. Got to go down to the bayou and get me some gator on a stick. I've said before that I'm not a picky eater but do not, ever, under any circumstances put beets in front of me. I don't like them. I don't like them fresh. I don't like them canned. I don't want them in a salad. Sam I am.
GeddyRulz
Worst thing I've ever eaten would be eggs. Hard-boiled, fried, or scrambled; I don't really know which is worse. Love ‘em, in every style! I eat about 3-4 dozen eggs per week. I keep a carton of regular eggs and a carton of hard-boiled eggs in the fridge at all times. I eat three fried eggs every morning for breakfast and 2-3 hard-boiled eggs during the day, with my lunch or as snacks.

Some nutritionists declare 1-2 eggs per week as a healthy portion. I've found it's almost impossible to find two "nutritionists" who agree on ANYTHING. Meat or no meat (vegetarianism)? Eggs or no eggs or egg-whites only? Milk or no milk? Any dairy? Any carbs? About a year ago, I was so confused by the conflicting opinions from nutritionists that I didn't know what to eat at all, and I was changing my dietary habits every week. They drove me crazy. As for the eggs: the latest data says they're healthy, even in large quantities. The WHOLE EGG, not just whites. Yes, the yolk has all the fat and cholesterol, but it also has all the nutrients... so eat the yolk! The fat in eggs is "healthy fat," and watching dietary cholesterol was a 1980s health fad that should've never happened in the first place and definitely shouldn't have endured, because it gets you nowhere. Fat and cholesterol are NEEDED by the body. Even if you could eliminate all cholesterol from your diet, your body would make more, and you wouldn't see any significant drop in your numbers. And the nutritionist who started the cholesterol brouha in the 80s now says his statements were misinterpreted by the health nuts. So... eat eggs. Eat the whole egg. Eat as many as you want. It's good fat, good protein, and great for muscle building.

Easter, 1978: I ate a dozen hard-boiled eggs in a single day, and didn’t feel too well after that. I don’t know how Cool Hand Luke ate fifty. One day you'll hear coffee is bad for you and a week later you're hearing about all the health benefits of coffee. I say just use some common sense about what you eat and how much and how often. Your body will tell you when its had enough of something.
greyfriar
When I'm speaking for me, I can't imagine 3-4 dozen eggs per week as healthy. You're absolutely right on the nutrionists (one day this, the other day that) but I think too much of any product, e.g. 3 gallons of milk per week, can't be healthy. Just my 2 cents.

They are still horrible. Why the hell would you do that if you hate them? You can probably get nearly the same nutritional value out of similar vegetables like broccoli or cauliflower. I don't despise brussel sprouts but I'd eat broccoli and cauliflower (2 things I like) a hundred times before I'd eat brussel sprouts once. No need to torture yourself if you KNOW you hate them and have tried them enough times
