Lorraine
Does anyone else here suffer from this? This just started with me about a month ago. It is not bad during the day; it's the nighttime that's bad. Keeps me awake. No matter how I rest my arm and hand doesn't seem to matter. If anyone else suffers from it, would you be so kind as to pass on your remedies to me? I've tried just about everything. :)
Maverick
What have you tried?
Lorraine
Heat Ibuprofens Changing the way I rest my arm and use the mouse What I don't understand is why it only bothers me at night and not during the day.

Maverick
Can you go to an orthopedist? They might give you a wrist brace that will help.
Lorraine
No, but I can go and get one of those ACE bandages. Would that help?
Maverick
You're probably going to need more support than an ACE bandage. But it won't hurt, and it may help some. Try icing your wrist, too, instead of heat.
Lorraine
Sheldon, thank you. I will do that.
Lorraine
Sheldon, just wanted to let you know that the ice really helped a lot. I'll keep doing it off and on until I hit the hay. Hopefully, I will sleep better.

pjbear05
Hmm, sounds like the starting of carpal tunnel syndrome. As mentioned above forget the Ace bandage, you'll need some sort of a brace to give more support than a wrap. Pain killers, of course. If your into holistic or supplementing, A friend of my wife who worked on a cash register all day developed a bad case of CTS and claims to have cut her symptoms way back by supplementing with "B" vitamins. Not sure if a specific B or a broad spectrum B complex, so you might check health food/vitamin stores for info. Good luck
H. P. L.
NEVER heat on nerves in flames. ALWAYS ice. There are some mousepads with a kind of "little pillow"in the bottom front, that holds up the wrist while using the mouse. That might help.I suffered for years of something similar. What saved me is a chinese-medicine magnet on the elbow. But to get that I recommend you see a osteopath first.
Lorraine
Thank you, PJBear and HPL. No money for MDs, so I will have to do the best I can without them.
Maverick
You could maybe look for a good wrist brace at a CVS or some other type of pharmacy. And the suggestion for a mouse pad with a cushion for your wrist is good, also. What you are describing, like waa pointed out above, is carpal tunnel syndrome. That's why I asked uf your fingers were tingling, because that is another symptom. Edited June 28, 2013 by Sheldon Cooper
Lost In Xanadu
I had something similar, didn't do anything but rest. Every hour, I try to take a 5-10 minute break. I take a short walk, but the most important thing is to stretch the hands/forearms.I use one of these things, and do 20 reps each hand:http://www.karatemart.com/images/products/large/hand-grip.jpg I also do stretches like these:http://0.tqn.com/d/golf/1/0/2/F/wrist_stretches.jpg http://www.shelterpub.com/_fitness/_office_fitness_clinic/OFC_hwf_410W.jpg
The Analog Grownup
I get the same from playing guitar if I'm not pre-strechting my wrists or doing some warm-up excersizes. I use a trackpad instead of a mouse, and haven't had a problem since in that regard. Some light training of your arms could help too, but remember to go easy on yourself, as you might end up worse. :)

Lorraine
I really appreciate all of the advice. And so does my wrist. ;) Xanadu, I can't read the writing on the illustration you so kindly scanned. Is there a certain number of hand stretches that are to be done at a time? Next week, I am going to see if I can get a brace for the wrist. As I said, it really bothers me at night. If I move my wrist suddenly, the pain can be excruciating. Maverick
You will want to wear that brace as much as possible, not just at night.
