ColdFireYYZ
So this weekend I'm going to NEARfest in Pennsylvania and supposedly they have 2 huge dealer rooms with just about every prog album for sale that you can think of. I have a few albums that I know I'm going to pick up but I'm just wondering if anyone has any "must hear" prog albums that I should look for. I'm looking for new and old bands that aren't extremely well known since I'm familiar with Yes, King Crimson, Camel, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree etc. So don't recommend Close To The Edge. Here's my last.fm page; its a fairly good representation of what I listen to. http://www.last.fm/user/jviola95/library#p1 Thanks!

I also really like Fish Rising and Van der Graaf Generator (they're playing at the festival - one of my all-time favorite bands). The only Glass Hammer album I've heard was Cor Cordium. Very Yes-like but still enjoyable. I'm not familiar with Henry Cow (heard of them though), Alamaailman Vasarat, or Jacula so I have a few more bands to check out. t2s
I preferred the more folksy stuff Glass Hammer did to the stuff like Cor Cordium

I still only actually own 2 albums out of all the NEARfest artists. Edited June 21, 2012 by Tommy Sawyer

I think I'm going to only buy a couple of shirts and a NEARfest program and spend the rest of my money on CDs. ETA: What 2 albums do you have? There's only 2 bands that I'm completely unfamiliar with - Helmet of Gnats and Aranis. Edited June 21, 2012 by ColdFireYYZ

What a coincidence, those five are the ones I would've chosen, but now that I've listened to them I can definitely say Especially Popol Vuh. Agalloch however I've only heard very little but worth more. Get absolutely everything by Pain of Salvation, too. Scarsick is their weakest effort. Good, bad, andrush
QUOTE (ReRushed @ Jun 20 2012, 07:54 PM) Currently, I'm listening to Van Der Graaf Generator's Pawn Hearts. "Man-Erg" is my favorite song off the album. I don't listen to VdGG often because they seriously depress me, but when I do, it's the most beautiful music...scratch that...adventure I could possibly embark on. And Man-Erg happens to be the most beautiful adventure on their most adventurous album.
