ReRushed
I've been listening to these bands a lot lately and I realized they all pretty much helped influence everything that came after them. I also realized that influential American bands seem to burn out rather quickly - none of these bands released more than four original albums! (The Velvet Underground without Lou Reed doesn't count!) ColdFireYYZ
I'm only familiar with Big Star and The Velvet Underground, so I went with Big Star. I've heard a few songs from the other 2 but they didn't do much for me.

RUSHHEAD666
The New York Dolls are opening for Poison and Motley Crue this summer. Now that's ironic! Talk about a band that influenced many other American glam rock bands.
Gilby
It was seeing New York Dolls at CBGBs that lead Malcolm McClaren to form the Sex Pistols. I don't know enough of the bands listed to really make an informed opinion. (Big Star? Is it Cos I'm a Brit?) I like what I have heard of Velvet Underground and really need to explore them further, hear a lot of their stuff in "indy" bands and a lot in talking heads. Iggy and the Stooges Raw Power is the album that I go back to a lot in regards to high energy rock and "grunge". (I actually hated that term) so I voted for them. I love B.O.C. I once met Buck Dharma's parents. They were in a store I worked in looking for a music magazine that had him on the cover. We talked for a few minutes (they were amazed I knew his name was Donald Roeser so they shot the shit with me for a bit. We talked about how ahead of their time they were with their stage show in the 70s with Godzilla.

"Done With Mirrors" is good but then it was all pop songs and ballads. Tyler and Perry seriously need to "Get A Grip!" That's a great story about Buck!! Timing is everything!! Did you pick up another copy of that magazine and get the parents to sign it? LOL! I wish I could have seen Blue Oyster Cult back in the Seventies. Hey dude, on that note Blue Oyster Cult is playing at a local fair on the same night that Rush is in town on June 26th. BOC plays two shows. I don't know the times yet but I would love to catch BOC and then jam to the Rush show. What do you think? Not trying to hijack!

Silas Lang
VU are almost the stereotypical "influential" band. Though they didn't sell many records in the time that they were together, it has been said that everyone who bought their records ended up starting their own bands.
