Union 5-3992
His live versions of "It's Good To Be King","Refugee", & "Breakdown" blow the studio versions right out of the water. One of my favorite tracks out of it has got to be "Drivin Down To Georgia"
Unattractive Truth
Candy-O - The Cars First album I ever bought with my own money. Walked to the record store to buy it. Still gets heavy rotation in the ol' disc changer. Moving Pictures - Rush Pretty much the same story as everyone else. The Wall - Pink Floyd Astonishing. Mesmerizing. Made sure I didn't drift off into pop or disco too far. 30 years later, it became the best concert I've ever seen. Achtung Baby - U2 Like nothing I had ever heard. My wife and I skipped our own engagement party when someone came up with tickets to this tour at the last minute. A sonic festival. Disintegration - The Cure The first time I had experienced a truly perfect album. Deadwing - Porcupine Tree Discovering them was a revelation. Easily my second favorite band now. An absolute masterwork.
MMCXII
Having a hard time with this. Have you guys actually had your lives changed 6 times from rock albums?? Ok here: 1. DEEP PURPLE - MACHINE HEAD 2. DEEP PURPLE - MACHINE HEAD 3. DEEP PURPLE - MACHINE HEAD 4. DEEP PURPLE - MACHINE HEAD 5. DEEP PURPLE - MACHINE HEAD 6. DEEP PURPLE - MACHINE HEAD Does that work? Lol This album was brought home by my big brother when I was about 7 years old and basically put me on "the right path" that was 34 years ago and I still listen the album often. Come to think of it, that album is just about the only thing I have in common with my 7 year old self! That's good music right there folks! Todem
2112 - Moving Pictures is what hooked me into the brilliance of Rush, but when I told my camp counsler in 1982 I liked Rush and he asked what albums I had and I only had MP up to this point (Signals would follow soon) he lent me 2112. I was floored and blown away. My life changed forever. I went and bought the entire back catalog over the next 8 months and Rush was my musical life from then on out. Physical Graffiti - I liked Zeppelin and was semi familiar with their work through high school...but in my early 20's playing in a very serious original project my drummer was a huge Led Zep guy and loaned me this gem.....changed my approach to writing as I was a student of Lifeson and Gilmore to this point. Jimmy Page...you are a master. Wish You Were Here - Do I really have to explain this? Kiss Alive - 7 years old...my babysitter and her boyfriend popped this on for me one night.....I was hooked on rock n roll from this point on. My parents never asked her to babysit me again. Jeff Buckley Grace - Brilliance. I never heard such a voice and the passion of this album just soaks through. Pearl Jam Ten/Temple of the Dog - These 2 albums consumed my summer of 1991. To this day I love each and every track of both of these brilliant albums. These 2 were the class of the grunge era and were never to be outdone. Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet - my first exposure to the brilliance of what is now my all time favorite band not named Rush. Porcupine Tree are giants in our time. They are the now in Progressive Rock. True genius. Edited October 9, 2011 by Todem
