Rand
King Crimson - Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWN9oqTSs14 I found a website that has it as 11/8 but I can't figure it out. How do you count it?
1-0-0-1-0-0-1
I assume you mean the opening riff? I'm counting it in 4/4. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/1001001/guitar_tabs/k_crimson_Happy_With_What.jpg

Assuming you're talking about the music tab and notation I posted, yes, that's the main guitar riff of the song you posted. Why, are you doubting it? An Enemy Without
Are you sure this is the right song?
Rand
If you listen at the very beginning they count 1,2 and start playing. So I'll assume they start on 3.

Rand
I'm talking about the whole thing. It's probably my failing as a musician but I can't count 1234 to the intro/chorus of the song. The main verse does seem to be in 4/4. The bridge (be happy with what you have etc.) doesn't seem to be in 4/4. I don't want it to be in any time signature, I'm just trying to figure it out and having a really hard time. I don't know anyone who starts a 4/4 song by counting 1, 2 and then starts on 1. As for the count-in, I've heard 4/4 songs counted in with only a 2-count, especially when it's a slow quarter note tempo like this one.

Rand
So I found a contact email on Trey Gunn's website and asked him. He actually wrote me back!!! --------- Ha, good question! had to listen and count it out myself The verse and chorus is all 4/4. the bridge is 11/8 with an occasionally bar of 12/8: first two bars are 11/8, third bar 12/8, back to 11/8 for some more, then another 12/8 and then back. I think. That should be enough to get you going. cheers, Trey On May 17, 2011, at 7:36 AM, Rand wrote: I just have a question for Trey.
