Something Isn't Jiving With This New Rumor??

If what Nick R. said is true they are going into the studio in January. And by his words we can assume that a good portion of this is already written.(or at least some of it) This idea doesn't jive with what Neil posted on his site not very long ago.(maybe a month or two?) He said they had no idea what direction the band was going and may even include an orchestra or individual tracks. So either Neil was pulling our legs OR the band was busy writing a record without telling Neil about it? They didn't meet until late November so how could Nick say that they already have tracks ready? All these timelines aren't adding up. Your thoughts or ideas????

I agree - they each may have some little pieces done but it's extremely unlikely they've done anything together and are going in with things written.

I see no way there's a full album out this summer.

What does make sense - and matches what Kroy Wen posted on Counterparts - is if they spend a couple of months writing a few songs to be released digitally and via an EP, do a small tour this summer and then write a complete album and do a full tour after that.

That's because it's total bullshit.....

There is NO CHANCE that Nick is going to tell a random person in a grocery store anything about Rush that has not been announced by the band themselves.

I think it's bullshit too!

I have a real story for you guys that I already told some of you during the Snakes & Arrows Tour.

Wendy and I were up in Reno for the Rush show and we stumbled on to Nick's father.

He's a blackjack dealer in one of the casinos there on the strip.

He was a very nice guy. When I told him all about my passion for RUSH over the decades he wanted to take his coffee break with us. So I was able to chat with Nick's dad at his blackjack table and during his break.

Nick's father is awesome and he is very close to Nick. He kept telling us that "my kid is very busy, everyone wants him to do production for their next record."

Nick's dad had two backstage passes for that show in Reno and he was going to give them to Wendy and I but his name was printed on both of them! He had to work that night instead of go to the show. Rush really isn't his cup of tea.

That would have been sweet to score two backstage passes to RUSH, but hey you can't win them all!

After the RUSH show I bought an extra S&A Tour Book and then went back to the casino and handed it to Nick's dad. He was very touched. I had a few beers in me by then so Wendy took my picture with him out on the Strip and then we chatted about life. He told me that if RUSH ever plays Reno again to swing by and say hi.

Nice guy.

Something else to think about. Geddy has already confirmed they are headed to the studio soon has he not? If this is true some of the record must be already written. Rush have always been a band that prepares. I don't think they have ever in their history headed to the studio with a blank slate. I think most of the records were written before they ever went to the studio. Other than the tracks that are last minute additions.

wtf.gif does going into studio to write and record a new album have to do with what is already written/not written?

I think your premise is wrong. no.gif

Read my previous post. I don't think Rush has ever went to the studio with a blank slate. Quite the opposite in fact. This is a band that prepared to the nth degree.

So Rush never changes things up and does things differently? I hardly think that's the case.

You might be right, but I don't see the conflict you are supposing is there.

Well they haven't changed things up in 35 years or so. So I'm just saying that history supports my claim that some of it will be planned out in advance. I don't see them changing their MO now. It's always possible though. But if they do go to the studio with a blank slate no way will this be out by spring that is unless they are doing just 2-3 songs.

I really hope that is not the case.

Please make a full-length album. I can't get into this purchasing download tracks...I love my albums that I can physically purchase! yes.gif

I tend to agree with this too. I can't see Nick going out of his way to give anyone that kind of information, especially to someone random at a store.

Even if this did actually happen, it was probably more to get that person to leave him to his shopping.

Obviously, if all this was actually true, then great. But I am very skeptical because it's way to easy to make up stories like that.
