  1. QUOTE (metaldad @ Jun 4 2010, 09:53 PM) QUOTE (Score Out @ Jun 4 2010, 09:50 PM) Probably worth saying again that the "rumored" setlist is 100% *not* what was brought into rehearsals. There's certainly a fair amount of material on that setlist that is included in the actual set, but the published setlist is absolutely not based in any kind of fact. Save it. Really. You had your 15 min. Post something or Go away Wow. Was that uncalled for. Ya know, if someone spoke to me like that in person without any provocation I'd put them through a wall - but I guess it's easy to act like an asshole when you're protected by a computer screen. In any event, you'll get your wish. The venom on this board from some people is vile and it's certainly not a community I have any desire to be a part of. There's 2 or 3 people here with rock-solid information and connections to the Rush camp and, despite the fact that none of them have ever posted a single piece of incorrect information over many months to disprove that, the peanut gallery is practically foaming at the mouth to tear them down. It's pretty sad really. I'm not aware of any awards or prizes for being proven correct in the end and there's been no reward in contributing whatever information and value that I have and that I am able to, so that type of environment is certainly not appealing to me. On a final note, the comments are me "covering my bases" and backtracking with regard to the setlist are truly comical. Some of you need to USE YOUR BRAINS!!! There have already been about 13 songs made public from the setlist (7 from MP, CTTH, JL, MalNar, SIO, Caravan, BU2B). The setlist is about 28 songs. You throw in some obvious ones like Spirit of Radio and Far Cry and the Drum Solo and 2 more staples and you're at 18. The "rumored" setlist has like 36 songs in it. I suspect even some of you can nail 5 to 8 more songs that appear in the show with 18 guesses. Hardly rocket science. The order on the rumored setlist is also way off even among the songs that are correct. So is the rotation element. There will likely be a few changes from the initial setlist designed in March, but there aren't wholesale changes among the songs and especially among the order. Certain songs are production songs with lights, lasers, pyro, video, effects etc. Those are designed based around specific points in the show and especially 1st and 2nd set (light vs dark) so those don't just get completely tossed around 4 weeks before the tour starts. So obviously, with half the show already known, and about 7 or 8 extra songs on the list, the rumored setlist contains most of the songs in the show. But with a few songs missing and many included that aren't in the show, along with a completely incorrect order, and a totally wrong guess on the rotation, it's still not close to accurate. Bottom line is that I have the actual real setlist they designed to bring into rehearsals and to give to the production team for lights, videos etc. The rumored list isn't it and isn't close. But clearly I'm just guessing so feel free to discount this and keep believing wrong information. Happy National Yo-Yo Day everyone.
  2. Probably worth saying again that the "rumored" setlist is 100% *not* what was brought into rehearsals. There's certainly a fair amount of material on that setlist that is included in the actual set, but the published setlist is absolutely not based in any kind of fact.
  3. Unless they seriously tore up the setlist they designed a couple months ago and brought into rehearsals and suddenly rearranged everything on Day 1 (which would all the production people pretty upset I suspect) this isn't close to accurate.
  4. QUOTE (GeddyLeeRoth @ May 18 2010, 03:00 AM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Tom Sawyer, Spirit Of Radio, and maybe Limelight are the three songs Rush has never dropped from their set since those songs' inceptions. This being said, I only think Tom Sawyer is the one true 'must play'. It's Rush's definitive song. And I must admit I never tire of it like I do some other radio staples. Tom Sawyer has never been dropped but the other two have. Spirit was dropped for part of the Presto tour and Limelight has been dropped several times (surprisingly) since its release.
  5. QUOTE (metaldad @ May 17 2010, 12:20 PM) Did i read this right? 5 S&A songs ? You have to be F-n kidding me Unfortunately not. 5 or 6.
  6. QUOTE (BrightAntennae @ May 15 2010, 06:41 PM) Hopefully not too many VT songs???? Nope. Only one in the setlist that I've seen. I've left myself a couple of surprises so I can't swear there isn't a second song but that would be the most and odds are it's just one.
  7. QUOTE (EveryNerveAware @ May 15 2010, 06:18 PM) My prediction is Working Man. If they go chronologically that would make the most sense. That was the first song that received airplay in the US and started their extensive touring. The song is powerful, a very well recognized hit and seems appropriate since the boys have been "Working Men" their entire careers. The show isn't going chronologically or any gimmick like that. Thankfully. Would make for a pretty weak 2nd set and encore...
  8. Probably a decent shot of hitting Europe as part of the 2011 tour.
  9. QUOTE (losingit2k @ May 13 2010, 09:55 PM) Must Plays: Tom Sawyer Limelight Spirit of the Radio Freewill Freewill actually hasn't been played all that much over the years. Not played on R30, half of Vapor Trails, Counterparts, Hold Your Fire, Power Windows, or Grace Under Pressure.
  10. QUOTE (Bluefish @ May 13 2010, 09:20 PM) QUOTE (metaldad @ Apr 21 2010, 09:20 PM) QUOTE (Score Out @ Apr 21 2010, 09:17 PM) Not Far Cry This makes me smile [if true] I love Far Cry but I don't think they'll open with it. Maybe One Little Victory? Keep in mind that songs like Far Cry & One Little Victory are pyro/visual songs and those natural come later in the show once its dark.
  11. QUOTE (Solitudeix @ May 13 2010, 08:12 PM) QUOTE (Score Out @ May 13 2010, 08:01 PM) a couple of "why do they keep playing this?" songs RTB... Thank god no - it's not in there!

At least as of the set that's being brought into rehearsals. The R30 medley was conceived pretty late in the game so a late change is always possible. Thanks for the info.... I'm most interested in the new songs. Have you heard any of them? If so, how do they seem?! No I haven't. I'm as curious as anyone. If anyone has a copy, please forward it along! All I've heard is one review from someone who has heard them who said Caravan is a very strong song and really rocks. Are these the same people that think S&A is a great album ? Actually, no... This is someone who is definitely more a fan of older material than newer material for whatever that's worth. So...being a fan of the older stuff...does that mean you are satisfied with the setlist as you know it? I'm never satisfied with the setlist! And the lack of rotation kills me. That said, I've left myself a couple of surprises still, but knowing most of it I'd say it's a strong setlist for Rush. There's a good mix of hits and some nice rare stuff (several of which are now public knowledge). It's far from B-Sides or all old material though so you have to go in being realistic. I'd say it's pretty similar to last tour's setlist in its structure in that there's a bunch of hits, a fair amount of new material (meaning the 2 new songs + about 5 snakes songs), a couple of "why do they keep playing this?" songs, and a half dozen or so songs that haven't been played in many years. I'd say it's a slightly better setlist than last tour but it's definitely not heavy on 70s material - especially after you get past the obvious songs.
  13. QUOTE (Weatherman2112 @ May 13 2010, 05:15 PM) a band that hasn't put out any truly relevent music in more than a decade, maybe 2 decades, trying to cash in on past glory, an old album. This would seem to pretty adequately describe BOTH tours, don't ya think?
  14. At this point the only MUST PLAY's in Rush's catalog are Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio and probably Limelight. Limelight has been cut on a number of tours in the past but I think it's been elevated into a concert staples at this point and given the limited number of tours left in their career I can't see them ever dropping it. YYZ would be the next closest to a must-play but mostly because there are always going to be 2-3 instrumentals sprinkled throughout the set.

  17. QUOTE (iluvgeddy05 @ May 7 2010, 06:41 PM) I think my last show started at 8p. and sound check was about 4:30? I heard them a couple hours beforehand too. Safe to say after noontime, but over an hour before showtime is a sound check time. A couple of hours before that is actually the sound crew playing a recording to test the equipment. Last tour they frequently played Subdivisions over and over again for their testing. THe band usually doesn't arrive until a bit before soundcheck. Soundcheck is never going to be much before 4:30pm.
  18. No long medleys. At least as of the set that's being brought into rehearsals. The R30 medley was conceived pretty late in the game so a late change is always possible.
  19. QUOTE (Josh Smith @ May 6 2010, 07:02 PM) This is a question for those die-hard fans who have waited outside the venue all day before the show to hear the soundcheck. Does anyone know from experience approximately when the band soundchecks, and how much of the set do they usually do? Obviously more details will come out as the tour kicks off and progresses, but any input would be awesome They usually play maybe 20 minutes or so. If memory serves, they typically did soundcheck in the 4:30-5:00pm range last tour. They'll kind of play around for a few minutes then do parts of 4 or 5 songs. Last tour they did Subdivisions (almost full), Ghost of a Chance (almost full), part of The Trees, a small part of Limelight, and then Alex did Hope.
  20. QUOTE (Alex @ May 5 2010, 03:51 PM) Score Out, is that a confirmation that Digital Man and Natural Science will be on the set again? No not at all - I was referring to last tour.
  21. QUOTE (wrekinboy @ May 5 2010, 11:01 AM) QUOTE (rocketom @ May 4 2010, 06:43 PM)I wouldnt be surprised if they close the 1st set with side 1 and open the 2nd set with side 2. They'll probably have the intro to Camera Eye playing while they are still backstage. With video on the screens of them walking to the stage like in ESL. Alex has stated they Are Not playing all of the Camera Eye. So they are playing all the songs from MP, but not MP in its entirety. That could mean they will shorten YYZ, RB as well. Score Out - what's the, er, score? I think this is a non-issue. They're not going to tweak most songs and with The Camera Eye I'm sure it's just a few seconds here or there of repetitive parts that won't be overly noticeable and won't equal more than a minute or two total. They tweaked Natural Science and Digital Man a bit and while purists may be bothered, I don't think it materially affects the spirit of the song or the experience. I highly doubt you're going to see any changes to YYZ or Red Barchetta. It's not going to be a medley or something like that.
  22. QUOTE (Hemispheric Waves @ May 4 2010, 12:12 PM) Presale for Tulsa = suck. No luck for up close but I will be very close to you as we are on row K of your section. Also, still no VIP tickets are being sold as of noon. Check Rushisaband - there's a link for VIPs posted there.
  23. Strong start but the problem is the end. Witch Hunt & Vital Signs are not the kind of songs to end a show with as neither are really hits, crowd favorites, or high energy songs.
  24. QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Apr 25 2010, 03:28 PM) QUOTE (Score Out @ Apr 24 2010, 02:21 PM)QUOTE (powerwindows @ Apr 24 2010, 07:39 AM) QUOTE (Score Out @ Apr 23 2010, 01:08 PM)QUOTE (powerwindows @ Apr 22 2010, 02:30 PM) Oh for Christ's sake......NOBODY on this forum knows anything for sure! We do know that they are playing Moving Pictures in it's entirety...two new songs (one is named Caravan) and Jacob's Ladder (according to a new interview on Rush is a band by Alex). Other than that, speculate all you want, but nobody knows what the opener will be yet. In fact, I would imagine that Rush themselves have only recently finalized the set-list to give the engineers time to start pre-production on lighting, audio, and visuals while the band works through rehearsals. Mid May should see the band get together and start running through the entire show on a semi-permamanet basis for rehearsals to work out the kinks. However, given the criteria on the question at hand......my money is on The Spirit of Radio but I am hoping for a vault type of song like Analog Kid or Afterimage followed by an even more rare gem like Kid Gloves or Chemistry. The key to the Time Machine Tour is Geddy's vocals.........I doubt we'll see Hemisphere's, Cinderella Man, Anthem, Bastille Day, or A Farewell To Kings unless they are in medley form. As much as I would LOVE to see it again, those days and tours are over (glad I got to see them back then though). Either way...it's Rush, so it will kick ass! I'm sorry but you're incorrect. What I post I do know for sure - or else I'd state that it was opinion and not fact. There could always be some tweaks to the setlist in rehearsals (recall that the R30 Overture came about late in the game) but the setlist was created about 6 weeks ago. If you are 100% sure of the opening song, as you claim, my question would be your source and whether or not you know the entire set-list? I'm not going to give sources - sorry. I think we went through this on the tour postings a month or two ago. As far as the setlist, let's say I have access to the whole thing. I know the setlist conceptually and just about everything that's going to be in there however I want to leave a few surprises for myself. Seeing as you are "always right"......what have you been right on besides "Rush will be touring this year"?......that was almost common knowledge, based on the interviews with the band in the last several months. Your criteria on the what the opening song is, is very general...Looking through your posts, I don't see anything solid that says you are affiliated with the band. "A few more shows will be added" etc, doesn't do it. What have you got that proves you are in the know, besides vague/recycled info that has been posted at other sites prior to you posting it on here? Wow...this really is getting unrewarding. I'm not affiliated with the band. I just happen to be privy to just about everything going on with the tour. I guess there really isn't much upside in trying to share whatever pieces of it that I can - at least with this group. If you reviewed all my posts from the past several months and felt that was all recycled info and lucky guesses then I'm not really sure what to tell you other than you're very poor at analyzing information and I must be a truly remarkable guesser.
