Tough one for me. I really, really, really want to vote The Sand Pebbles for because of his truly nuanced performance. However, I have to give props to his epic turn in Papillon because his performance in that just edges out his turn inThe Sand Pebbles. Go watch this montage and pay particular attention to the part that starts at 4:49 and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Most of you have probably never heard of Soldier In The Rain. If you should ever get the chance do yourself a huge favor and watch it! It's a comedy written by Blake Edwards and it also stars Jackie Gleason. You can order it here: Click.

Definitely a tough one: it was either going to be Papillon or Bullitt.

The latter was kind of pre-Dirty Harry/Clint Eastwood super cool cop. A great role for him, but just a little flat. But all that changed in Papillon, a wonderful, thought-provoking and memorable role. Unforgettable

Papillon was great but I went with Great Escape. He literally didn;t need to act for that one. He is that guy.

Actually, the pretty much universal sentiment was that his role as Jake Holman in The Sand Pebbles was the closest he ever came to playing himself.

There's only one for me Dave.

"BULLIT!" Best car chase scene in movie history.
Besides I'm a Mustang guy!

Earl

Agreed. I had a green '67 coupe. The beginning of all the great car chase movies that followed in the '70's.

Papillon, is a great movie, but you have to be in the right mood to watch it given its length of around 150 minutes.

Bullitt, on the other hand, comes in at a compact 120 minutes: so is a better option for those moments when you don't want anything too long or overly cerebral. Hence the tough choice

Nice 85!

Sorry for the typo! "BULLITT" RULES!

Hell I was born in 1968! That was the year "Bullitt" came out.

Same year the A's moved to Oakland.

My first car was a 1970 Mustang.

Second car, a 1990 GT. Black with a YYRUSHZ license plate.

My third car was a 2004 Mach One.

My head kept hitting the inside ceiling compartment so I turned it in for a 2007 Orange GT BOSS 302 California Custom Mustang.

I love this car. Guess I should post a picture of her.

The license plate on this vehicle is DRUMYYZ.

Yep! I need some serious help.

See you at the race track!

Sincerely,

"Red Barchetta"

I think he did most of the stunts himself in TGE, with the exception of that final big jump over the fence.

Like his cars he knew motorbikes inside and out, and only added to his totally cool character in that film

He did indeed and it took a long time to talk him out of doing the big jump.

I reckon he could have done that jump easy, but I guess either his agent or his insurance company got a bit jumpy and asked him to reconsider.

TGE is a brilliant film, but does sometimes get overshadowed by the screen presence of McQueen and his trusty bike

Slightly highjacked thread...

Yeah, I get it. I work for a Ford dealership. Just prepped a Shelby GT 500 for delivery yesterday. I get to drive these cars. Wish my phone had a camera.
