I recently bought a SOG Field Pup and I'm very impressed with it! It's tough as Hell.

I just got a great new knife....

A Gerber Applegate Fairbairn Combat Folder

http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/tanhuntland/cave001.jpg

* Overall Length: 10.06"
* Blade Length: 4.48"
* Closed Length: 5.64"
* Weight: 7.4 oz.
* Lock Mechanism: Liner Lock, Roto-Lock
* Blade Style: Spear
* Blade Material: 420HC Stainless Steel
* Blade Type: Double bevel
* Handle Material Glass-filled nylon
* Sheath Material: Ballistic nylon
* Opening Style: One-handed opening

I can't believe it is an issue knife, over a Ka-Bar, but none the less, a high quality knife to add to the collection.

Nice! Do they make a plain-edge version? I don't care for serrations as they require a special tool to sharpen and I've had the points break off on a partially-serrated Gerber I once owned. I was cutting wet rope and they snapped like little twigs.

Jack, what do you think about these types of knives. It wouldn't be for any utility stuff, I was thinking about keeping it in the glovebox for an emergency or something like that.

I have one of those! It's a neat light-duty knife and it's got a good blade. I'm still thinking of the best all-around practical use for it and so far I think it would be a great addition to a medical kit. It never occured to me to keep it in the glovebox for emergency use but yeah, I can see that! It's also fun to carry it in your pocket to show people because everyone is always fascinated by it.
