We got the first 2 discs (the first four episodes) of season 1, and I gotta say, we're both majorly lovin' it. It really has amazing writing, directing, acting, etc. It's extremely well done. I was VERY skeptical, as I'm not generally too into vampire stories, though I watched and enjoyed my fair share of Buffy episodes. Anyway, I'm not going to read too much on this thread for fear of spoilers, but this show is really excellent IMHO. Graphic as hell, though - man! Not one for the kiddies. I had always heard them refer to the name of the town they were in, but on this episode I actually saw it written out on Jason's t-shirt. It's Bon Temps, Louisiana. I have not read any of the books, so I have nothing to draw on from week to week. For me, I've been so much more into the 2nd season vs. the 1st. The 1st seemed 'just' good enough to keep me watching, but not much better than that. The 2nd season is sooooo much better to me. Thankfully, for starters, I don't have to see Jason's naked ass in every friggin' episode. That guy was getting paid for soft porn in the first season. Sheesh. I agree about the Mary Ann thing, though. I'd much rather be watching what happens with the vampires, than some maenad somethingorwhatever. I thought the most compelling part of this season was the storyline of Eric and his relationship with his maker (can't remember his name). "Throw off those chains of Reason And Your Prison disappears" ... "Food and wine they had aplenty" Sure as hell this is what's going on in Bon Temps under MaryAnn's control! Hey that gives me a idea wonder if Hemispheres would match up with some of the scenes of the black eyed zombies lewd debauchery. (Like Willy Wonka & 2112) : What's with the nest and giant egg that Tara and Eggs Benedict dancing around? Dionysus gets hatched? Is that in Greek mythology? At first was thinking it might be his scorned maker Lorena. But whomever done this had that metal chain around his neck that burns vamps, so couldn't be her. Possibly Steve Newlin leader of the Fellowship of the sun cult. Didn't read anything about not posting spoilers , so hope I didn't ruin this for anybody.. to much anyway. It did start to border on silly, but it was still fun to watch. HBO series always seem to have short seasons. Now, on to my other favorite Curb Your Enthusiasm btw.. The wife and I just got through all the back episodes 3 or 4 days ago, just in time for season 3. I thought the premier episode was GREAT - very much a continuation of season 2 with some interesting new themes introduced. Man, is this one f*cked up show, or what? I miss the coolness of season 1. I hung on through season 2 but was not happy. I'm sad. The ONE current show I had some interest in...no longer.
