troutman
QUOTE (Janie @ Sep 20 2008, 05:48 AM)QUOTE (troutman @ Sep 19 2008, 06:34 PM) All, I haven't been around all week. Hope everyone is doing well, especially you Janie Maybe an MRI is in order? You know what I went through this past summer. If you think it is getting to serious you might want to have the procedure performed. I ran five miles yesterday and it went really well. My energy level differs day to day so I am hoping it's the same tomorrow. Hiya right back troutman!! I've been thinking about you, wondering where you've been. I hope this knee thing is just a matter of my not keeping off it as much as I should have. (I'm one of those that needs to be in constant motion - you know, I'd rather have too much to do rather than too little.) I'm going to run tomorrow (Sunday) and see what happens. If it goes back to immediate, excruciating pain, then back to the doctors. Ugh. Took a break from the internet Well, I hope you get better but don't push your luck too much. edgyspice
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, Janie! I'm off to buy new running shoes today-- my leg pain is freaking me out a little bit. Maybe I've put too many miles on the old pair.

I like to replace mine at the first sign of wear and tear which turns out to be about every four months. I've heard of a lot of injuries happening with old shoes. Did Lee Squat?
I hope your knee is feeling better soon, Janie! Even though my cold is still lingering around, I ran a PR again yesterday of 21:37. Couldn't have asked for a better course or weather: barely any hills, in the 70's with a nice breeze and cloud cover. I think as long as I'm 100% on Wednesday and the weather holds steady, I can break 21:00.
Janie
So... I went running yesterday. I was planning on running 4 miles but stopped at 3 because my knee was feeling a bit sore. I was fine until about 6 hours later when it really started hurting again. It feels ok this morning and I think I'm going to try running again today. I'm heading back to the doctor's this afternoon though and getting a referral to see a specialist to help me figure out what's going on and what is going to be the fastest way to get back to running everyday. I'd like to keep running everyday, even with the knee pain. I can't go another 10 days without running! Plus, I know that come December and January, I probably won't want to get out there and run in the bitter cold. ETA: So after all my talks with people who run it seems that no one really stretches but when you get hurt, the first thing they want to know is, "Were you stretching?" WTH!? Janie
QUOTE (edgyspice @ Sep 21 2008, 10:19 AM) I have new Mizunos! Oooh, cool! How do you like them? I just bought a few new running pieces for the cooler weather. It's so funny, when I was running two weeks ago, I ran in shorts and a sports bra and now!! Long pants and long-sleeved tops. The weather cooled down wicked fast.

Janie
I ran 3 miles on Sunday, 6 on Monday and, well... suffice it to say I went to the Physical Therapist's after that last run. I prepared myself to hear the worst but turns out my knee is fine and I can still run every day and not do any damage to it AND my injury had nothing to do with stretching. Apparently I was running too much every day and so the P/T wants me to only run two miles a day (but I'm running six... SHHHH, don't tell him) and do some exercises working on certain leg muscles. So, I'm happy! Very, very happy!

It's hard to cut down on your running, but maybe suppplement those two miles by running on a more incline somewhere if you're running flat, granted it doesn't hurt your knee more. But then again, what do I know

Helloooooo??? edgy trout analogkid GG Did Lee Squat (OMG, I *just* got that) rushringleader ILG doubled_mystic How is everyone doing? Hello!! I had a great successful (treadmill) run last night. I ran for 31 minutes! Usually I only do a 20-25 minute run since I'm a major ameatur. Not sure how many miles that was, but it was at 5.5 speed? idk, I usually count the time and not miles working out, even doing it the cheaters way on the treadmill . But it's hard for me to run outside in cooler weather because I have some asthma issues. Bottom line is, I felt GREAT after last night because I just kept going. Also, no headaches. I kept relaxed again and it really helped. My one leg near my hip is kinda hurting me this morning, but it's the good hurt, not the injury-type hurt. It's great to read the update ILG (yours too GG ). It's probably easier to go by time vs mileage when on a treadmill. Or, well, I think I go by miles because I have a certain goal in mind (marathon down the road) so I need to know the distance I'm running so I can increase, etc appropriately to reach that goal. I think I may try for a triathlon next year. A family member is trying to talk me into doing one in Chicago with her. Anyway, ILG... I know what you're talking about with good/bad pain. My knee = bad pain, sore muslces = good pain (you know you've had a decent workout).
GhostGirl
I feel awful, to be honest. I am so overwhelmed by life right now - exactly when I should be exercising - and I literally cannot find time to devote to it. I know that old adage about MAKING time, but I can't even make time right now. I miss being active. It's showing, too. I feel and look like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Well, in my head I look like that...

Sorry. Ok, I'll be serious... You are probably burning off more calories and getting more exercise than you think. You are so incredibly busy ALL the time!! What about going to the YWCA? I practically lived there when I was younger. My mom had me in swim classes, ballet classes, every art class... Stephen could do something like that while you exercised. Would he like that? Everyone has those times when life just gets in the way of everything. I'm taking today and the rest of the weekend off because my legs were hurting yesterday-- inner calves and ankles. They still feel achy today. I think I ramped up the intensity of my running program a bit too fast, which is why my legs feel destroyed by the end of the week. When I get back to it on Monday I guess I'll be sticking to the flat for the time being.
