Trance
Does whiskey go bad? I've had a bottle (has been opened) for almost a year. Is it safe to drink the stuff?
feelingwithyourskin
CHUG, CHUG, CHUG! seriously, though, it should be fine. if it were wine or a more sugary spirit that contained less alcohol, i might give it pause, but i've had liquor bottles open for way more than a year that have been as tasty as the first sip. hell, i think i've had the same bottle of bailey's in my fridge for two years now if the color is off or it smells bad, those would indicate that it was no longer palatable, but i doubt that it is. if someone drank directly from the top or it was contaminated in some way it might not be as fresh as day one, but alcohol is a preservative for a reason

Whisky, if kept in a cool dry place and the bottle is in good shape should last a long time. Wine is good for only a couple of days once it's opened. After that, it's pretty much vinegar. Baileys, if I'm not mistaken, has some sort of dairy in it. Even refrigerated, two years might be a stretch, but I could be way off. Is there some sort of storage advice on the label? Is there some sort of storage advice on the label? it's dairy but it has a high alcohol content, so it's fine if kept cool. i had some last week and it was perfectly fine and any non creamy liquor should be perfectly okay if unrefrigerated. i don't know what the label says as far as storage, but it's not the kind of thing i've looked for before. whisky, vodka, gin, rum, etc. should last you a good long time without turning

feelingwithyourskin
there is a difference between "safe" and "tasty" i would be willing to bet money that the whisky is safe, which was the point of the first post, but it might taste differently than it did when it was first opened. This is true, so I'm wondering if it's even worth the shot Thanks for all the answers guys, I figured somebody here would know something about it If I disappear for a few days, you'll know I tried it and it turned out to be bad
lerxt1990
QUOTE (Trance @ Jul 26 2006, 01:39 PM) Does whiskey go bad? I've had a bottle (has been opened) for almost a year. Is it safe to drink the stuff? No, if prop. stored. I just finished off a 20+ year old bottle of Canadian blended my father in law had lying around. It became Mr. Lerxt's bottle, since he was the only one drinking form it each holiday. Canadian blended whiskey - from the avg. to the higher end, is just soooo tasty! xredsectorx
instead of making a whole new thread for this, i'll just ask it here. i'm wondering how there can be a lowest legal price on beer?? i see it on signs all the time for stuff like lakeport. so if they sell it for any less than $24 for 24 they are breaking the law??? how does that work?
