I picked Casino. I though Nicky Santoro was a much better characer than, Tommy DeVito. I mean both characters were great, but I think Nicky was just a little better than Tommy. In Goodfellas you don't see much when Tommy gets whacked. In that scene in Casino in the Cornfield when they kill Nicky & Dominick it's really messy and brutal. I think it added to the impact of Nicky getting whacked.

yes.gif I agree, I love that scene in the cornfield, that is really brutal.

I love both these films but Casino just shades it for me yes.gif

Not even close. This scene alone is better than all of Casino combined.

That's a classic scene yes.gif

But that's just nonsense saying that scene alone is better than the whole of Casino combined wacko.gif

The guy that whacked Pesci's character in Good Fellas plays Uncle Junior on the Sopranos, Dominic Chianese.

Edit: I'm wrong on this, never mind. I don't see any credits for Chianese in GoodFellas. But I'd swear it was him. Oh well. Chianese was in Godfather II, apparently. I haven't seen it in a long time, though.

Youre not that far off. The guy that kills Pesci was Billy Batts in Goodfellas and is Phil Leotardo in The Sopranos (Frank Vincent). For the record, Uncle Junior was Johnny Ola in The Godfather Part II. smile.gif

I wonder if there's a family tree somewhere that relates these characters.

And Michael Imperioli, who plays Christopher Moltisanti on 'The Sopranos', played Spider in 'Goodfellas'.

Just my subjective aesthetic judgement! Given the choice of watching Casino or this scene from Goodfellas alone, I'll always take the latter.

Good Fellas is one of those films that I have to watch if I run across it. Classic. Casino is good too, but, I haven't seen it nearly as many times.

Ace Rothstein: I'm just curious. I saw you shuffling your checks with your right hand. Can you do that with both hands?

Signaller: No.

Ace Rothstein: Can't do it with both hands?

Signaller: No, sir.

Ace Rothstein: Can you do it with your left hand?

Signaller: Well, I... I never tried.

Ace Rothstein: So you're a righty?

Signaller: Yeah.

[one of the guards repeatedly bangs the signaller's right hand with a hammer]

Ace Rothstein: Now you're gonna have to learn with your left hand.

This is a toughie, both are great movies. I tend to like Casino a bit more tho. I know basis of Casino is true (not 100% sure on Goodfellas, but im sure it is too), just substitute Spilatro for Santoro. The Spilatro bros. were bad ass Chi-town gangsters. Sharon Stone is great as the one of the biggest beyatchs eveah. I want to punch her ever time I see the movie, she plays that character to well. Her cumuppance at the end was a beauty.

The books for both are brilliant, same author on both. IIRC in the Casino book I dont think the author changed the characters names, which was surprising.

Thought I'd bump this old thread because of the Casino parodies being posted in the other thread, and because I found this clip. This is by far the coolest shot of De Niro ever. Everything about this shot is perfect...the slow camera creep-in and the slo-mo, the lighting, the look on De Niro's face (you know EXACTLY what's going through his mind at that moment), the way he smokes the cigarette, and that song and the way it's brought in. Scorsese is the master of fitting songs into his scenes, and the use of this song is perfect.

Those of you who know Goodfellas know the shot without clicking the link. yes.gif
