what unreleased audio/video would you want to see released as part of the upcoming 50th Anniversary Box Set?

but that can't be! It's their effin' 50th anniversary! Why would they re-release their (pardon my language) least known albums???

Because those albums are selling for $300 each on Discogs. They're long overdue for a repress. I don't care about the box set or artwork, though.

Man, and I really had my hopes set on something cool...

What about the rest of the Toronto show that Geddy said was gonna come out? When's that going to happen?

Geddy's book shows a list of maybe 17 or 18 songs they wanted to record for the debut. Alex mentioned in a 2008 Blabbermouth interview that he found tapes that he believed contained some of that stuff. Here's the quote in case the link doesn't work:

"You know, it's funny that you mention that. I was up at my studio... I'm upgrading and changing my control room around a little bit. Rich and I have sort of "moved in together" in there. And I was cleaning up the back room...I've gotten rid of a bunch of stuff over the years...and I just found a case that was way up on the top shelf, and at the bottom of this box were a bunch of reel-to-reel, unlisted, unmarked, recordings... and I can only imagine that they're pre-'74. So, they would probably be from between '70 and '73...recordings from that period. So, they would probably have songs like "Run Willie Run" and "Slaughterhouse" and "Garden Road", and all of those early songs that we wrote and played during our bar days."

It'd be neat to hear more studio material from that era besides Not Fade Away and You Can't Fight It, but maybe those were the only non-album tracks they recorded for the debut.

On the concert end of things, anything and everything that can be found. Multi-tracked or soundboard, doesn't matter. Just get the shows out there and I'll be happy. Tops for me are:

Pre-1974 material if it exists

Hammersmith 1979

A complete performance of one of the Permanent Waves shows that was used on the 40th

Anything from the Signals tour

Grace Under Pressure warm-up shows from Radio City Music Hall

Full Power Windows tour set (IIRC none of the soundboards have the encores)

Complete and restored versions of Exit Stage Left and A Show of Hands if the footage still exists

As for individual songs from the post-hiatus years, we don't have an official live version of Ceiling Unlimited since it was dropped from the set by the time they recorded Rush in Rio. Working Man from the Clockwork Angels tour too, but we have like six billion versions of it already.

In the Wandering The Face Of The Earth book, Alex is quoted as saying that he has a recording or two of when they used to play high schools back in 1970.

actually it would be awesome if they put a complete soundboard audio show from every tour up until 97 in there, I know it's impossible (Caress Of Steel & Signals) but it would be amazing if they did!

An previously uncirculated box would be nice.

Only been 9 years but yeah it's kind of crazy that those albums list for as much as the Anniversary Deluxe Editions.

Got an email from the Rush Newsletter today and there was an announcement for an R50..... "beer reveal". If the set's still happening, I'm not expecting anything until next summer at least, if P/G 40's release being held back to spring is to be believed.

The Backstage Club sent out a holiday guide email today, which, along with the Atlantic vinyl box having just came out, should all but confirm we're not getting anything else this year. Maybe there will be an announcement within the next few months for a 2025 release, but who knows. Let's say an R50 set does eventually show up; there's still a chance it'd end up competing with P/G 40 if both come out next year. This is assuming the rumor that the latter was delayed for next year to make room for a 50th box is correct. Of course there's still a chance that neither set gets released, but only time will tell.

The fact that neither Alex nor Geddy have made any mentions of the 50th anniversary this year isn't very reassuring. I mean, it took until last week for Alex to finally acknowledge Grace's 40th anniversary, and even then, it was just to promote an expensive, limited run guitar. You'd think either of them would at least give a hint that something's in the works even with their more limited role with new product. Well, Geddy mentioned they're doing something with the Toronto '97 show on that Conan interview back in July if that counts. No way of telling if that'll amount to anything yet.

While I doubt that Hugh Syme had any involvement with the R50 merch, at the very least, the logos look like they could've been made by him. Not sure why he would go through the effort of designing new logos just to have them slapped onto some clothes and a poster though. Unless the idea is that he designed them with a new box set in mind, but there's no sign of it so far.

I mean - a wishlist of unreleased stuff. Where does one even begin?

The first singles.

Album demos. Like the PoW demos. There has to be more,

Sir Gawain and The Green Knight.  If the rough work still exists.

The full ESL shows.

At least one RCMH show.

The shows recorded for ASOH.

Alternate mixes.  For example. CP.  The album premier on FM had slightly different mixes of the songs.  I have that one recorded myself off the radio.

Soundcheck jams.

What else did they work on for Feedback? I can't believe that they stuck to that set of songs when they were fleshing out ideas. Are there demos of other covers?

But as with all things unofficial there's always a chance we're all just chasing each other's tails with nonsense. I've seen so many cases where some rumor will start about something, people will debate it on a forum, then you'll see on some special interest sites that they're saying the same thing, then major news sites will start reporting it, and then the people on the forum will say "See, it is real, it's on all these news sites", only to find out that the "news" filtered its way up through from the forum in the first place. A whole bunch of news people "reporting" that other people are "reporting it." I got my validation from behind the scenes that I think is outside that circle, but still, we'll see.

That's something I didn't think about. I hope that Prog Magazine quote wasn't made in reference to the various comments from the GUP 40 thread. The only thing that's doesn't completely add up is the "new release planned for later this year, to coincide with the band's 50th anniversary". The easy answer is the 1989-1996 box set as it fits their "later this year" statement, but there's nothing whatsoever to indicate that it ties in with the 50th. Hell, it even came out like only a week or so after the announcement, and it's already sold out on both the backstage store and Rhino.com as of yesterday. Not even a full month since the release and it's apparently OOP. I feel like an R50 set would have a less 'limited' availability and more fanfare than that.

If anyone didn't see it yet, the first album has a new Dolby Atmos mix on Apple Music and Amazon Music Unlimited. New versions of 2112, AFTK, and Hemispheres have also popped up. I'm really hoping this is a sign that there will be a 50th anniversary box set.

Checked into the sale Fortunately/Unfortunately there was nothing there that tickled my fancy.
