FleetwoodPC Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Why aren't GedLee playing shows with a, or several, alternating, drummers? Believe it or not Neil isn't impossible to copy. A 'precision' studio drummer such as Simon Phillips could seem to handle it. Could Taylor Hawkins? ... I don't know as much about him but he seems highly skilled. And Alan White or Bill Bruford minus forty years. And unfortunately Jeff Pocaro passed in 1992. And maybe even a YouTube drummer a la the guy who now fronts Journey.
toymaker Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Hi FleetwoodPC, welcome to the forum! We have discussed this issue on the forum, and people have different views - lots of people could fill in, but it wouldn't be the same somehow, is one take. I think Lee has said they just couldn't call it Rush without Peart. 6
J2112YYZ Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Because it's not Rush without the three of them and Geddy has been working on other things not related to writing and recording since the band retired. Alex is just taking it easy doing random guest appearances on songs for various artists. Will they do something again has been discussed to death on here since they retired. Even Geddy has said that he'll probably do some new writing at some point but is not sure when. Let them enjoy their down time. There's no reason for them to hurry out on the road again. 3
edhunter Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 I think they should replace Neil with any stiff they can find and go out on the road and call it Rush. Utterly overrated. 4

So overrated that you tell this in almost every post. You seem like an obsessive fanboy who can't get over the fact that Peart is on a well-earned retirement. Edited April 25, 2019 by maxpower 2

Almost every post i have seen in topics related to Neil by him. These Peart-haters are obviously either trolling or just plain delusional fanatics who are bullying a 66 year old man just because he wants to retire. Some people just need to get out of their parents basements and get a life. Rush is done. 1

Can you imagine how desperate Geddy and Alex were in 1974 that this guy got the gig? I can only imagine what rush would have become with a drummer who plays with actual feel. And writes better than a junior high schooler who just read The Fountainhead. 1

If you don't like Neil's drumming it is pretty much impossible for you to like Rush. And if you think he lacks the "feel" then so do Geddy and Alex. Edited April 25, 2019 by maxpower 2

I have never met a Rush fan who hates Peart or his drumming. Maybe there are some of those lurking in their mothers basements but any Rush fan with a brain and normal life appreciates huge part of the band that is Neil's drumming. 2

He has been a black hole of suck for 40 years. His Groove can't hold a candle to a drummer like Phil Rudd. But it's his lyrics that really killed any real chance for super stardom the band had. 3
grep Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Look everyone. It's over. Been over for almost 4 years. I get the hard core fandom. I'm a die hard too. Well I was. There comes a point when one just has to move on. 2

They are bad. Most of them anyway. That Geddy ever managed to sing them is a credit to him. Carry on! :) Edited April 25, 2019 by Lorraine 1

Some people just need to get out of their parents basements and get a life. Rush is done. But Not the players. Geddy seems to be in the best healthwise, but Alex also has some maladies that would be serious hindrances to his playing... I agree with them taking their HEALTH SERIOUSLY.

I'M a fooking musician, and have been for 55 YEARS! Both on Piano and in Percussion in school and beyond. I've played in the Pep band at High school sporting evens, an Orchetra, A Dixieland Band, a Swing Band and Marching band with also garage type bands for many years. Neil was the CONSUMATE Percussionist, and anyone who doesn't think so, is deluded and needs mental help. His lyrics were imaginative and sometimes HELPFUL to me and a bunch of others on how to handle life changing events. I enjoy his writing also. BITE ME, ED! Edited April 26, 2019 by OldRUSHfan

Obvious troll. I like AC/DC and Phil Rudd too but you wouldn't want to see him drumming for Rush? It seems like you don't understand what Rush is all about. It isn't about the groove or the "feel". Rush is Lee, Lifeson and Peart and no-one else. Each of them is a part that cannot be replaced. If you hate one of them you also hate Rush as a whole. Edited April 26, 2019 by maxpower 2
