My mother always remembered these anniversaries. She was already married with children when the events happened, and she would often tell me what it was like living through those years. One time she showed me the ration book she had saved. The war ended before she could use up the rest of her coupons, so she saved it.

I always appreciated what that generation had to endure.

It's National Eagle Day!

Aren't you glad you got up this morning?

Eagles! My alma mater EWU are the Eagles!

Also, I was teaching probability this week and used on old Mexican peso coin instead of a quarter. One side has the eagle with a serpent in its mouth. We say "heads or tails?", and they say "eagle or sun?", or, in Spanish, "¿águila o sol?".

It's Ernest Hemingway Day!

❛The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.❜—Ernest Hemingway

I don't know about that one, Ernie. That's a hard way to find out. :|

Rejoice anyway!!! And pull out your well-worn copy of The Old Man and the Sea . :codger:

Ernie was often full of shit. Or maybe it was booze and bluster.

"The hole in his forehead where the bullet went in was about the size of a pencil. The hole in the back of his head where the bullet came out

was big enough to put your fist in if it was a small fist and you wanted to put it there."

Prescient stuff!

Hey, ORF, it was just a pic from an Ernest H look-alike contest. Something like this:
