snowdogged Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 (edited) I met the Bass God. In fact, I even sat at the bar with him and had a few beers and talked with him just after he put on one hell of a show. How it happened was all by chance and totally unexpected. You see, my cousin called me up and told me that he had tickets for the World championship Bass Fishing Tournament for that day and he could not make it and gave me the tickets. I went and I have to tell you that no one comes close to Kevin VanDam when it comes to Bass Fishing. I went to a bar after and to my utter surprise the Bass God himself was sitting at the bar. Brava Doh! Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 It would be more interesting to hear about an accidental off duty meeting rather than the same routine that everyone goes through at a meet and greet, he's always travelling so somebody must have bumped into him somewhere? I'm regularly in the near vicinity of his London apartment and always keep an eye out for him wandering around! I ran into Geddy and Alex by accident walking back to my hotel in Halifax in 2013, the night between the two shows. When I realized who they were, I engaged them in some minor banter about shopping at midnight on a Wednesday (never dawned on me that their internal clocks on tour would be of a 4-12 variety so sleep wouldn't come at "normal" hours so to speak...). They were polite enough for sure, as we got to the front of my hotel (on the waterfront), I thanked them for so many years of entertainment and they said thanks back for saying it. Then they continued down the street into the night...god only knows where they were going as it seemed out of the realm of the waterfront area and more like it was moving towards residential space. I imagine they knew or heard of an out of the way watering hole and were checking it out. The whole thing didn't take long but I was grateful that I met them in a natural environment and had a chance to thank them for so many years of music, which is all I could ever really ask for. I'm not a "star gazer" so to speak, and would never have interacted with them unless it was random and accidental, like this was. It was very cool, and both Geddy and Alex were also very cool with me. 8

They were probably looking for donairs and hash. A Halifax tradition since the mid-70s!Nice story! 2
Phantom Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 I met him (and Alex) at a q107 radio interview...hosted by Kim Mitchell. Kim spent and hour or two interviewing them.. Afterwards, g&a headed to the back of the room, sat at a table, and signed any item that a fan brought. During the interview, Ged spoke about a child's wedding, so when it was my turn for an autograph, I simply congratulated him on it...his face lit up...BIG smile...it was so nice! I met Al in a restaurant years later...SUPER nice guy... 4
oghond2112 Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 I wonder if anyone here has met Geddy at a baseball game by total chance?
daBee Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I'd bump into Geddy from time to time in Rosedale. Never said hi, want to leave the guy alone. 2
hammerofthor Posted February 16 Posted February 16 No, I haven't had the chance to meet Gene Simmons yet. 4
James Bond Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Geddy answered my question at his Toronto book tour stop so technically I exchanged words with him from across Massey Hall. 53 minutes ago, hammerofthor said: No, I haven't had the chance to meet Gene Simmons yet. I have. The God of Blunder himself. In all honestly, he was pretty friendly and chatty. 1
TheGhostRider Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I've never met Geddy or Alex, but I did meet Hugh Syme at an art gallery when he was displaying his album covers and drawings. Very nice guy. He signed my copy of Permanent Waves and my older brother's copy of Power Windows. I remember my dad asking him what Geddy was like and he said "he's an idiot" and we laughed.
treeduck Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I wonder if Geddy Lee is the secret half-brother of Jake E Lee and the secret nephew of Christopher Lee?
grep Posted February 17 Posted February 17 A guy I used to know took lessons from Jaco. So there's 2 degrees of separation. 1
edhunter Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I met Geddy briefly in 97. He was coming in from golfing with Alex at the hotel in Salt Lake City. I knew I would only have time for one since the hotel guy would chase us away. He signed my tour book and my girlfriend snapped a photo of it real quick. I don’t think he ever said a word.
PAFHumbucker Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I met Geddy and Alex at a meet and greet during the second leg of the Vapor Trails tour. The radio station I was working for was giving them away and I asked the promotions director (who used to work for Polygram) if there was any way they could hook me up..and they did. They just herded people in a line in the bowels of the arena and the staff made it clear there were no autographs. Someone showed up with a keyboard or something and did end up getting it signed. Anyway. When it was my turn I said hi to them, I can’t remember if I shook their hands or not, but Geddy said ‘Nice to meet you’ and Alex said “It’s a pleasure.” I told them I was in awe, and the staff snapped two photos with a disposable camera (remember those things) and handed it to me.

Why do arenas have 'bowels' anyway? 1
