I just think this thread is rather strange.

 

I so much pity anyone on this forum who has never experienced the brilliance and masterful music of "The Dan"

 

How can anyone who has got such wonderful musical taste to like Rush and has never been into Steely Dan?????????

 

Steely Dan have produced sublimely beautiful music with a seamless joining of Jazz and pop/rock and the same way that Rush are the masters of progressive rock.

 

I despair of some of the comments here, I just hope that they are ironic :-( :-(

a) Everyone (even among Rush fans) has different tastes.

b) These kinds of jokey threads have existed for years and often are in no way a knock on the bands mentioned.

c) I listened to Steely Dan this afternoon partly due to this thread.

Yes the Dan are just wonderful.

 

Ian Dury loved them as his favourite band and you can hear a lot of nods to the Dan in The Blockheads work.

It's amazing! I love JB Steve! I hate Steve Perry but I love Steve Smith.

 

Ironically I love the first three albums with Dunbar on drums. Dunbar is even on "Infinity." Then Steve takes over on the drums. Great player.

 

Sadly I hate Steve Perry Journey.

 

I can't stand Arnel but I respect him and hope he makes millions of dollars.

 

I watched the Journey film about him being discovered and I actually enjoyed it.

 

So, call me a hypocrite? We all are.

 

But man. I am not an Arnel fan but I love his energy.

 

It's like I love Bruce Springsteen's band, and I love The Boss's energy on stage but I can't stand Springsteen at all!!

I did. Then again, a few years back, I also got confused with Jeff Lynne from ELO and Jeff Wayne who did the War Of The Worlds soundtrack. How in heck that happened, I have no idea...

Yeah very sad

 

I would never condemn someone

 

Deen got so bad that he got a hold of his wife and she phoned 911

 

He was arrested and charged with domestic violence.

 

He was an addict and the Meth got hold of him.

 

He was sacked from Journey in 2016 but Neil kept in touch and told him the band would always help him. Arnel kept in touch and was distraught by all accounts because he said Deen was the one who was close to him and encouraged Arnel when he first got the job.

 

He got two years probation and went into a rehab programme.

 

I do not want to condemn Deen because I really believe he is a good person.

 

He donated a lot of money to help fund a children's charity.

 

I think he just succumbed to the temptations and pressures of fame.

 

He completed his rehab and sings and plays drums with his band "Revolution Saints" now and is doing well again by all accounts.

 

Deen has an incredible voice, easily as good as Perry and Arnel.

 

He was actually offered the job of lead vocalist for Journey in the mid 90's but he told Neil and Johnathon that he did not have the confidence to be out front and would just be happy to play kit and do vocals.

 

The three of them first worked together in Bad English with John Waite
