  1. Here's a link to a quiz that exists, in case you don't know your answer already: http://www.quizfarm.com/quizzes/Rush/Big_Tommy_P/which-member-of-rush-are-you/ I scored as Alex Lifeson, which probably means I'm on an emotional high right now and I had too much coffee again. I'll probably be Neil in a couple of weeks, in which case I'll be on the forum with the iPad in bed while complaining about my life and cursing society. I just wish I could reach a Geddy-style equilibrium once in a while.
  2. So, isn't this just a very exciting time to be a Rush fan? Let's face it, they released Clockwork Angels which was received well both with fans and also critics, they toured the album which also went well with the string ensemble, the inclusion into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, a new live DVD is coming soon and now the Vapor Trails Remixed. I have a feeling the future looks very bright in Rush land It's been a long time coming but I feel like they finally get the kudos they deserved. :)
  3. That Pub in Lambeth I. In the Abbey I am John; I am Paul. I am George. Ringo is not in my tree. Look at me; I'm a Beatle. I'm George Martin; nothing to get hung about. The studio doors have just been opened, and they're open very wide. engineers all around me and Paul has been here all night again. Just one song I recognize, the one where John plays guitar lead. it was bloody easy though, dead simple and ripped off from Jerry Reed . Now my eyes are drawn toward the studio in the east. Fascinates and captivates; Did we go to India yet? The studio roof opens at sunrise we'll play up there till tonight, bursting forth with rocky tunes , the roof has fuckingg floodlights. Living one long studio session, and no touring makes John a dull boy. I've never seen diamonds in the sky glow or Lucy and strawberry fields are blue. I do not know if George will be up by dusk. I live from take to take. I don't live to keep Paul in weed I'm off to that pub in Lambeth. II. Dickheads and Ninnyhammers Rin-go! Work(it out), no! give, live! all you need is, Love! Stay or fight, Yoko's right? Listen to Linda! III. No One At the Bar Cringing back to consciousness, the dampness grips my skin. The room is pitching violently, and full of shrieking women. Beerspray blurs my vision. John spills it walking by so fast. Save me a drink of cider says Paul . I'm splashed, helpless, at the bar. Remembering when first I held a drink in my own hands, I took a sip so eagerly and sailed for distant lands. But now the drink's too heavy. And I just don't understand, why must Paul and George desert me? fucck I need to join a new band! Call out for one more beer and there's no one there to pour. Shout out for some service here but no one comes through the door Dry throat suffocation? or is the barmaids footstep near. Scream out bloody frustration but no one's there to hear. IV. Panatella The whiteness of the Beatles album cover is unfolding in my mind. I stare around the studio toilet in wonder. Have I left my beer behind? I catch the scent of cigars And turn my head, surprised. My gaze is caught and held and I am helpless, mesmerized. Panatella, cuban haze. Oh, let me touch that familiar packet. smoke falls around me and I cough as my lungs heave. Music is the meaning of my life? I prefer cigars to Paul's granny tunes. Penny Lane, Ob-la-Di and Maxwell's Silver Hammer don't let me hear them soon Beatles lost our unity, a curse for ev'ry year. John's lyrics promise me boredom through the years. And now I must be gone recording before the light of dawn. Panatella, tobacco pure. I can't resist your gentle lure. My lungs will lie beside you, and my tickly cough will never leave. V. Black Forest Gateau Another endless day. George's face is grey. Another studio war. John and Paul fight with eyes that shine. Fifty days with that shrill Yoko moaning. Long nights, I'm going out of my mind. Ringo has left the band ah well there's a cast of forty-three. drummers,to my mem'ry, who are ten times better than he. Give me back my drum kit. He said to Paul, c'mon give. It's just one song it doesn't matter. There's not much more to do on that one, anyway Paul said, Ringo doesn't want to live. Another f***ing studio dawn. eating gateau it's almost gone. Another doubtful year. Abbey Road is not so clear. Ringo's back no one notices at first, in the end we act cheerful, f***ing Yoko. VI. The Pub Look at the rest of them lying, through their teeth, Here Comes the Sun is George's. See the steps John couldn't make it up without help from the other two. Hear the arguments reverberating In my head I need this beer. Fucck, my head is pounding the album isn't even halfway finished. For now at least I'm back once more in this pub in Lambeth. I'm tired of all that singing, I'm tired of Yoko's breath. Many days end here, and the beer tastes the same. That bathroom Window song is just too much to handle, John thinks that Linda's to blame. The key, the end, the answer, strip them of their women. otherwise it's all confusion, well it is to my eyes. Though I've reached the end of this post; it's really not the end. Like old Geoff back in the studio, I'll be going there again. I'm not sure which Beatle I am. I am Paul?. I am George?. I am Yoko? John?. I'm George Martin. I'm a part of this band. forever, oh god am I the drummer from 1960? Pete Best. No. Still, I am.

  5. I was just wondering if anyone else saw the show tonight (if anyone else on here watches the late late show), because Rush got about half a minute of mention during the monologue. For those who did see it, what did you think? For those who did not, Basically Craig said he was disappointed that the new film Rush was not about the band, or as he puts it..."You know that Canadian Progressive Jazz Pop Rock Power Trio or whatever". He then goes on to catch himself to compliment them on how fast they move their fingers..."And then they pick up their Instruments" ;)
  6. Hi all, I created a Flickr group a while back for Rush memorabilia. Take up on membership has been a little slow but then again I haven't really had much time to promote it. The group is a place where you can post your scans of all kinds of Rush memorabilia and ephemera including tickets, news articles and reviews, posters, handbills, pin badges, patches, record covers etc. I would also like people to post photos of Rush shirts both official and unofficial. The only thing I ask is that people don't post concert photos they have taken from shows they have attended. There are plenty of Flickr groups for concert photos. Live band posters from music publications past and present are fine though. You do need to have a Flickr account to post stuff but joining Flickr is free. To visit the group and see what's already there visit Look forward to welcoming you to the group. Merv aka Analog Sid PS - Forum Mods - If you think this is best posted on a different thread please feel free to move.
  7. Not sure how many people know about it, but in Universal Studios Orlando, there is a rollercoaster that lets you choose a song to listen to while you ride called Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. Rush is not on the public list of songs, but by holding your finger on the logo instead of one of the song genres when choosing your song, a keypad will come up and entering 101 will play 2112 pt. 2 for the ride. I was just wondering if anyone knew about it/ actually rode with the song. I was going to, but the ride inconveniently broke down before I got my chance to ride. Can any one tell me if it is anything special, or if you did not know about it, what your thoughts are.

  12. Post 'em, fools. 1. Counterparts 2. Grace Under Pressure 3. Signals 4. Hemispheres 5. Moving Pictures 6. Clockwork Angels 7. Power Windows 8. Permanent Waves 9. Snakes and Arrows 10. 2112 11. Test For Echo 12. A Farewell To Kings 13. Roll The Bones 14. Fly By Night 15. Vapor Trails 16. Presto 17. Hold Your Fire 18. Rush 19. Caress Of Steel I expect some backlash about putting 2112 relatively low. I love 2112 the song and Something For Nothing, but the album as whole is what I'm ranking it off of, not two fantastic songs.
  13. Rush Fifth Order of Angels Full Album Published on Nov 29, 2012 [aka ABC1974] Recorded August 26, 1974 at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland Ohio during live broadcast on FM radio station WMMS. 1) Finding My Way 00:08 - 04:58 2) The Best I Can 05:14 - 08:06 3) Need Some Love 08:24 - 11:22 4) In the End 11:42 - 17:49 the best version!!! solo 15:13 - 15:56 5) Fancy Dancer 17:50 - 21:36 6) In the Mood 21:51 - 25:02 7) Bad Boy 25:08 - 30:35 A great version! Classic Rush style 1: "I just can't end the song" endless ending 8) Here Again 30:43 - 38:34 Here Again solo starts @ 35:22 Fantastic underrated song! Classic Rush style: "The song does not really get going until 4 minutes" 9) Working Man 38:54 - 50:10 [by-Tor & Snowdog in solo starts at 44:28 then Drum Solo 47:49 - 49:10 and "By-Tor esq" ending] 11) What You're Doing 50:45 - 55:04 12) Garden Road 55:11 - 58:07 Rush at their early 70's hard bluesy rock, high energy finest! So good! Neil joined Rush 7/29/74 (Geddy's 21st birthday) and his first gig with Rush was on 8/14/74. FACT. So this gig was exactly 4 weeks after joining and 12 days after his first gig with the band. It was also 1 day before Alex turned 21. Neil had a lot to prove here. Geddy and Alex were just getting to know him. Soon after seeing him read constantly on tour, they would ask him to write lyrics for the band and the rest, as they say, is history... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbiOJ2fiqNM&list=PLBE95839B7EC03E6B
  14. The Newly Remixed Version Of Vapor Trails And 7-Disc Boxed Set Of Atlantic Studio Albums Both Are Available On October 1 from Atlantic/Rhino (September 30 internationally) The Vapor Trails Remixed album will be available on CD, Double LP, and digital download on October 1 from Atlantic/Rhino. "Vapor Trails was an album made under difficult and emotional circumstances -- sort of like Rush learning how to be Rush again -- and as a result, mistakes were made that we have longed to correct. David Bottrills remixes have finally brought some justice and clarity to this deserving body of our work," says Geddy Lee. "Every song has been given a new life, from the fire of 'One Little Victory,' 'Secret Touch,' and 'Ceiling Unlimited' to the melodic musicality of 'Sweet Miracle' and 'How It Is'... these songs have been redeemed. Thank you David!" Neil Peart also wrote about the remix in his July 2013 update, "On These Days." The band had recently been overseeing a remixed version of our Vapor Trails album, from 2002, as we had never been happy with how it turned out. I found that trying to listen to those songs again was too upsetting, taking me back to a mindset and emotional state that hadn't been good to live through then, or to relive now. I had to "recuse" myself from those judgments, and the Guys at Work understood, of course.http://neilpeartnews..._medium=twitter

  16. Once you RUSH posers get your hands on the new RUSH Vapor Trails remix edition, will it mean the end of the road for your VT 2002 copy? Or will you find yourself sticking with the old one??? Only time will tell of course, but what is your feeling right now based on the two VT song remixes from a while back? :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :guitar:
  17. Ok last time it was Sabbath, Purple, Queensryche and Ghost... This time it's Dream Theater, Fates Warning, RUSH's Vapor Trails remaster and Haken's new "The Mountain" album... Speak to me! It might seem strange to have a RUSH album in one of these polls but VT is one of those albums that divides fans... :hail:
  18. Well, just done some reading and there will be two awesome releases on the same day! September 30th 2013!!! Alter Bridge will release a new album, Fortress. Their fourth album, which will feature one song with Tremonti on lead vocals. There are a lot of great titles on the album's track listing, and I can't wait to see how they sound. On the same day, as any regular on this site would know, is the release of Rush's new box set, which contains everything post-HYF, including the new remixed version of Vapour Trails. Now, to the untrained fan, this could seem like sheer luck they're on the same day. To me, it's the greatest thing ever. One day in the local CD Shop, two awesome releases in the car.
  19. Guys, I just saw this on Youtube I think you'll all get a kick out of it- the guy who does Geddy's voice is perfect hahaha. P.S: It was kind of low volume-wise on my computer it might be on yours too.
  20. Just gotta give my two cents to what was perhaps one of the greatest Rush Concerts ever put on. As everyone predicted the small arena made the Sound Quality spectacular beyond compare. Every note was crystal clear and not muffled in any way (not counting when it's supposed to sound muffled) and Geddy's voice was almost perfect, especially on subdivisions which sounded so close to the album it was mind blowing. Though the concert had a minor flub or two, and I had a personal bad experience with a drunk guy just getting into my car that would not leave and got grabby when I shouted for help (thanks mystery rush fans that helped), the concert could only compare to me hearing the set for the first time in Winnipeg under complete surprise. Other highlights include the fact that though the set was A, Limelight was played (Body Electric is not a personal favorite), and the other 3 songs (all of which I prefer their B variants by a tiny bit) were played magnificently (particularly the solo at the end of Bravado), the hall was more compact, so it had more hard-core Rush Fans (I swear I heard singing for their big hits), I had a seat which gave a full view of the lighting rig (it was really colorful for this show I realised) Alex's singing was audible a couple of times and it actually sounded pretty good, the unique Red Deer Shirt for sale was great, and finally, Geddy seemed to be having the time of his life at this show. I know he probably smiles the most of the three, but he just seemed so happy to do this show. Oh one last thing, Alex conducted the orchestra during YYZ and it was glorious. Apologies to everyone who could not make this amazing concert, and thanks to Rush for donating their time and efforts to everyone in Calgary. What did everyone else think of the show?
  21. We all must have experienced this once or twice in the past....a musical conversation comes up with a friend/coworker/acquaintance and you want to share with them how or why you think Rush is so great....but the other person is kinda just doesn't get it? It's like..no matter how hard you try to convey what Rush and their songs mean to you, you just can't get it across or get the other person to feel it on that same level? For example, I have a friend who is a sci fi fanatic and absolutely loves most things like Star Trek, Star Wars, Comics, etc. and he absolutely hates Rush. I told him that 2112 and the concept would be right up his alley but...nothing.
  22. Hey Everyone. I am constantly plagued with the question on whether or not it is odd my choice of favorite bands/artists. Obviously Rush is my favorite band, but before I heard Rush for the first time, I was a huge Green Day fan, and I made the leap without much hesitation, all my colleagues at my music school found it odd that I could jump so quickly from the simple styles of punk rock to the diverse and hard to digest genre of Prog rock, and they are all musicians who are supposed to be open to all genres. Later on I discovered Oingo Boingo, a somewhat hard to classify band (closest to 80's alternative dance rock) that was fronted by film composer Danny Elfman. Though others could at least tell I could relate rush to them because of their non-conformist writing and composition, people found their sound different still to accept how I could so easily jump to this band. Then I made probably the most odd jump of all. I became a major fan of Owl City. For those who don't know, he is an indie Synth-pop/rock act that has two hits with Fireflies and Good Time. In other words, I jumped into popular music. He still had a great quality of writing that I loved, and I could relate to his basement synth compositions and common themes of insomnia and introversion, but people were still shocked, even my other musician buddy who up until then understood my changes had a hard time digesting this (I got him to turn around eventually though). And now I have finally I have gotten into They might be Giants, which though is a more understandable group after seeing how eclectic my music choices are, still seem far away from everything else with their more homespun indie sound. Or to Sum up, I like... Rush (Prog), Oingo Boingo (80's Alternative Dance Rock), Owl City (Indie Synth pop), They Might be giants (Alternative), and Green Day (pop-punk). What does everyone think? Thanks for reading my ramblings. RushBoingo
  23. Hello everyone! Some of you may know me, but I'm not that popular here on TRF. I need a favor from all of you. I am in this contest to meet rush, get front row seats, and a bass guitar. As of right now, I am in 6th place, and I need to be in the top 3 in order to qualify to win. That's why I need ALL your guys's help! I am just as big of a fan as those people who have been to 50+ rush shows- and trust me, if i were older, I would totally be there. I've been a fan since 2009. But its not about being a fan from the beginning, its about being there until the end. Rush has truly changed my life for the better. They are much, much more than just a band to me- they are my idols and heroes. They have taught me life lessons I will never forget. They have inspired me to play guitar and viola and make music of my own. They truly are three extraordinary men that have saved me from many things. I will never be able to thank them enough for what they have done for me. When I say they mean the world to me I truly do mean it. Their music is just so unbelievable- I have spent countless hours listening to them, watching them, and playing their music on guitar. I have spent hundreds of my own dollars on them, and I am only 15! My dad has been a fan for 25+ years and has seen them every tour since Grace Under Pressure. He is also a spectacular drummer who wishes to play like Neil. without him, I would not be the person I am today. We go to Rush concerts- that's our absolute favorite thing to do together. We also absolutely LOVE to play music together- me on guitar and him on drums. When I see his smile when we are playing Rush songs it is one of my favorite things to see ♥ Winning this contest is literally one of my biggest dreams! People always say to chase your dreams, so I am chasing this one. (that is what i would put if we weren't limited to 140 characters!) Here is some of the Rush-related artwork I have done: http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z365/musicalabby2112/SnakesandArrows_zpsfbdd945f.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z365/musicalabby2112/GraceUnderPressureTTT_zpsba195667.jpg I drew this one with sharpie markers: http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z365/musicalabby2112/391177_400512320008474_1563216773_n-1_zpse867cda1.jpg http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z365/musicalabby2112/rsfhhhsa_zps57561cb7.jpg I did this portrait with graphite and charcoal pencil: http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z365/musicalabby2112/IMG_2245_zpse09bbaf7.jpg That's not even all of it! I just wanted to share some of my favorites! here's a link if you want to hear me play some rush on guitar: https://soundcloud.com/musicalabby2112/rush-guitar-riff-medley That is why every single one of your votes counts in this contest. Every. single. one. it only takes two seconds to vote. so if you could please vote me the “ultimate Rush fan”, I will never be able to thank you guys enough. you will make my biggest dream finally come true. Plus my dad will get THE BEST fathers day gift EVER!!!! :D Thank you! VOTE HERE: http://www.q1043.com/c/?28 :rush:
