  3. https://www.loudersound.com/features/the-50-best-rock-albums-of-the-decade/5 1. Rush - Clockwork Angels (2012) For a band whose US album sales are right up there with the Beatles and the Stones, Rush keep a pretty low profile. But in just the past decade, their mainstream status has noticeably shifted. Having been deeply absorbed by popular culture, 50 years in, Rush have reaped the rewards for being themselves. And with this cultural rebirth, a creative one. 2007’s Snakes & Arrows was a convincing musical statement, with new producer Nick Raskulinecz encouraging the band to take chances and reconnect with their essence as a progressive rock band. And what better way to seal the deal than to follow that up with their first full concept album. Neil Peart’s story for Clockwork Angels percolated through many literary seams, notably steampunk. Filtered through the Victorian fiction of HG Wells and Jules Verne, this idea of ‘a future as seen from the past’, had been championed by writers including Peart’s friend, Kevin J Anderson. On Rush’s 20th album this was used, as the drummer put it, to “tell a story set in an alternate timeline, with alchemy, clockwork, and steampunkery”. So, we followed a character on a quest through an antique sci-fi world teeming with pirates, anarchists, explorers and carnival dwellers. It was a heady theme, and Rush cranked up their nonpareil power trio smarts to set it to some of their toughest music. Caravan set a swaggering, funky tone. ‘I can’t stop thinking big,’ sang Geddy Lee, establishing the character and the world ‘lit only by fire’. Alex Lifeson’s swathes of crunchy tone and a blues-drenched solo backed this up. Hewn from the type of riff Muse would kill for, BU2B set the story on a cosmological scale, its hard, hyperactive groove leading to the title track, which floated in on exotic tones and shimmering clean guitars before bursting into life. It was a thoroughly modern record but, as ever, Peart’s ear for the mythic added Xanadu-like grandeur to the music. Seven Cities Of Gold was inspired by tales of Spanish conquistadors, and it was a monolithic, shifting rocker that heralded the character’s entry into the belly of the beast, El Dorado. Blessed with beautiful clean lines and a refrain that ‘Sometimes you have to be wary of the miracle too good to be true’, The Wreckers was accessible, with a light, major-key simplicity (not bad for a song inspired by pirates who deliberately ran ships aground). Marvel at Clockwork Angels for one or all of its many levels: its literary depth and steampunk cool; its creators’ unity of purpose and preternatural musical sense; its lip-curling rock grooves and girthy production. In the blue sky of their creative Indian summer, and with a cultural tailwind behind them, Rush channelled the impulse that made them so special all along on a modern progressive album which sat right up there in their canon. Our score: 9/10 http://audioinkradio.com/2019/12/best-albums-decade-rock-metal-2010s/ 1. Judas Priest, “Redeemer of Souls” Judas Priest has been crafting towering metal music for nearly five decades, and they’re still putting out some of their best work. Of course, “Firepower” is an incredible record, but “Redeemer of Souls” has that old-school Priest vibe. “Redeemer of Souls,” which came out in 2014, showcases Rob Halford’s vocals, which are stronger than ever, and an incredible assault of instrumentals, including guitarist Richie Faulkner’s contributions for the first time. With the perfect mix of emotion and skill, “Redeemer of Souls” is a heroic cry to keep metal at the forefront of music, and for that, it’s Audio Ink’s top album of the decade.

    Jeddie Speaks

During a June 10 question-and-answer session at Manchester, England's Dancehouse Theatre, Geddy Lee was asked if there are any songs in the RUSH back catalog that he wishes he could go back and redo. The bassist/vocalist responded: "Oh, God. Probably the longer I looked, the more I would find. It's funny what happens in time — when you finish a record… I'm a harsh judge of a record I just finished. And then you go through this period where you go, 'Oh…' You've taken a month away from it, you're out on tour and you're learning the songs and you hear it on the radio and you go, 'Oh, that was better than I thought t was.' And then time travels at quite an alarming rate, and, for me, when I look back at the very old stuff, I hear things that I couldn't possibly have heard about those songs. So when I look at the earliest records, of course, there are a few things that I would rather have redone at the time, but you can't change the past. And I tend to appreciate it more than I thought I would. There are very few I would really go back and change again, because I don't think that's the way it works."
  5. Happy 66th birthday to Geddy, and happy 45th anniversary to the new guy! Neil joined the band 45 years ago today, in 1974. The guys bought equipment for their first tour the next day and they were off! (I wish that I could live it all again!).
  6. Did anyone notice this Easter Egg in Far from Home? Half way through the movie they show a concrete Rush Star on the floor and then right after Spiderman falls on it just like Starman. It was like "Man that looks just like the Rush 2112 Star, then Boom Spiderman falls on it just like the Rush Emblem. its very quick but there!
  7. I saw a post on a FaceBook RUSH fan page about the Toyota RUSH vehicle. It seems the RUSH is only available in Asia. This SUV looks a bit like the Sienna that I drive so I went looking for one of the logo plates from the RUSH to paste onto my Sienna here in the USA. I found them but only from China and with a pretty hefty shipping cost for a cheap plastic logo. To mitigate the shipping I bought a few extras of the logo plate in hopes I'd find other RUSH fans who might like this for their car or other application. The plate is 6-3/4" x 1-1/4" in size, chrome silver plastic with strong adhesive intended for all-weather sticky for use on an auto body. If you want one for $7.50, or have questions about this item, drop me a PM here and we can figure out the details. Rock on!
  8. These are kind of cute, The set is a big deal among some Rush fans. It was only available last year at some Toronto comic con thing but now pre orders can be made for July shipping. Order now and resell later on eBay for hundreds! https://www.bigapple...ASABEgKUDPD_BwE https://www.ebay.com...tEAAOSwPphc33M5
  9. Apparently a new book documenting all of Rush's tours is coming in October- just in time for Christmas!?! It looks very interesting, but I'm not sure about this title- did they really think Rush fans wouldn't notice the borrow of the Moody Blues lyric? (Thank you Danforth & Pape for the heads up!) From Amazon: Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart performed together for the first time to an audience of 11,000 people in 1974. Forty years later, their last tour sold over 442,000 tickets. This is the story of everything in between. This is the story of Rush. Fondly known as the Holy Triumvirate, Rush is one of the top bands to shine through rock-and-roll history. Wandering the Face of the Earth covers Rush’s storied touring career, from their humble beginnings as a Toronto-area bar band playing middle school gymnasiums to their rise as one of the world’s most sought-after live acts, selling out massive arenas around the globe. This book includes every setlist, every opening act, and every noteworthy moment meticulously researched and vetted by the band themselves. This is THE must-have tour compendium for Rush fans. https://www.amazon.c...sr=8-1-fkmrnull
  10. Does anyone have any articles or know of any interviews where a great songwriter has been asked how he/she wrote a great song? Like someone asking Paul McCartney how he wrote Hey Jude, or someone asking James Taylor how he wrote Fire And Rain. You see, as an architecture student, I spend some of my time learning about how the great architects conceived their great buildings, what the though processes were that they went through. Now I've learned a lot of this can be read by analyzing their buildings closely, but it becomes a lot easier to do with a professor asking you the right questions to get the right answers. Meanwhile, I may spend weeks analyzing an incredible song like Baba O'Reily, and come no closer to understanding how Pete Townshend wrote that masterpiece, only how it goes. So I want to know... How do you guys think great songwriters write great songs? Do you have any examples of interviews or articles where a great songwriter talks about the process behind writing a great song? What are their approaches?
  11. Is anyone planning on getting it? Or do you have it already? How does it sound? It's currently on sale at the Rush backstage club for $79.99. Amazon has it for $69.99. https://www.amazon.com/dp/6317437920?creativeASIN=6317437920&linkCode=w61&imprToken=AH-iTBVmkLD.dnuw8URyQA&slotNum=10&tag=rushisaband-20
  12. I'll start off with this. I never said anything about this to anyone for some reason... Back in the early 80's I was walking down this street at around 9 pm. It was a fairly busy street in the daytime but at night it was pretty quiet. So there I was walking down the street and all of a sudden I heard what sounded like RUSH! It was coming from the upstairs window of this house. It was 2112 blasting out! Temples of Syrinx! I stood around for a minute listening. Then a few minutes. l was looking around to see if anyone was coming. I felt like a stalker or a peeping tom! It looked like no one was around so I stayed there bobbing my head listening. I closed my eyes walking around outside this house and then this fat old lady suddenly emerged from this side street and I bumped right into her, that's how I knew she was fat because I couldn't see her properly! She said: "What do you think you're doing?" I quickly got out of there with RUSH 2112 still blaring behind me! And now my secret is finally out... :smoke:
  13. Just saw this on my newsfeed!! Pretty exciting!!: https://www.loudersound.com/amp/news/rush-in-rio-to-launch-on-vinyl-for-the-very-first-time
  14. I am not a drummer (guitar), but to me, at least, the dynamics of Neil's kick and snare are quite disparate from album to album. On some of their offerings, I can barely hear the kick and/or the snare sounds like he's hitting a trash can lid. On other albums, the kick punches through so forcefully and/or the snare is like a small cannon or is super tight. IMHO, Counterparts has the best of both worlds~ A nice clear and forceful kick and a perfectly balanced snare. I'm interested to know which album has your favorite drum sound?
  15. Except that TRF members know the replacement drummer thing is out. . . strange article. Remember when RS used to have good writers like Chet Flippo and Mikal Gilmore? But here is the article anyway. . . https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/could-rush-continue-after-neil-peart-745690/?fbclid=IwAR1oMsi47TJKbI9eLEkam0AOdZybH7zDPGmjUlFxT6k1KOzB0hTSn59SaGc
  16. From an article on Blabbermouth.net- "Steel drum orchestra Pan Rocks will enter the studio this fall to record its tribute to RUSH. Mike Portnoy (SONS OF APOLLO, THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER) will handle drumming duties. The bassist and guitarist will be announced in the coming weeks. . . . " . . .Pan Rocks is a 50-to-100-plus-piece steel drum orchestra founded by rock steelpannist Tracy Thornton. The RUSH recording is a follow up to the 2017 Pan Rocks "Project LA", which featured the music of LED ZEPPELIN, KISS and JANE'S ADDICTION . . ." Link to the article- http://www.blabbermo...av5j-A.facebook I can't really imagine what that would sound like with Rush, but here is the previous version of Pan Rocks doing Led Zep's Immigrant Song- I'm still trying to make up my mind! It's an interesting sound but reminds me of the whole "Pickin On . . ." series where they do instrumental bluegrass versions of Led Zeppelin or whatever group. The sound is pleasant but so far removed from the original recording that it's a little strange to listen to . . :P
  17. Musing on a Saturday morning and wondering what would Permanent Waves have looked like if the boys had done a full side epic version of Natural Science. What track/tracks would have been sacrificed if any? I'm thinking Jacob's Ladder would be the track that would be dropped as brilliant as it is.
  18. Paul Fairfield is a Philosopher at Queen's University and he recently published a short podcast praising Rush. It's about 11 minutes long. Today was crazy so I've only listened to about half and Dr. Fairfield kind of talks in a monotone (sorry) but here is the link if anyone likes podcasts or just listening at the computer! https://philosophycr...-crush-podcast/
  19. Geddy and Alex attended the Foo Fighters concert last night in Toronto. (No sign of Geddy's mom or Rod from Toronto in the photos, though!). Here is Geddy's Instagram post accompanying the photos he posted. Nice to see him with Alex again! geddyimagesA great big cheers to @foofighters and their super kind crew for an awesome show and much appreciated hospitality shown to myself and my bestie Alex last night in our hometown of Toronto. A truly great hang! Kudos to Taylor for that killer drum solo and for rockin' that Rush T shirt! #foofighters #sometimesgoodguysfinishfirst ! #RushFoos #Taylorrocks
  20. These three songs are built upon intriguing and difficult to follow staccato riffs, but which do you prefer?
  21. Lessons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3jgmySKsNg
  22. Am I the only one jonesing for some RUSH right about now? This usually happens about now for me. Its been nearly 3 years from that last fateful show in August of 2015 at the Forum in LA. Where they played my favorite Song Losing It. Now, I understand their desire to stop touring due to aging but what about some new music. Even a compilation of instrumentals with a few new Instruments thrown in would be nice. Anything really. RUSH has been the Soundtrack to my life and it feels life cant continue with out them. I've bought the Anniversary Disk to 2112 and Farewell to Kings but those were just a distraction really. I need some new RUSH! I mean Clockwork Angels was a masterpiece IMHO! Can you Imagine what would come next? :haz: :haz: :rush: :haz: :haz:
  23. Hi anyone thought about starting a RUSH FANS dating site , I for one since recently becoming single would like to find a lady who appreciates the finer aspects of life like RUSH
  24. Post yours! Curious to see what shows up here...

    432Hz

Anyone else listening to these on Youtube. Being flooded with Rush songs at 432Hz, sound really good and interesting in the case of Xanadu which is unpitched so sounds like it would live.
