  1. This is going to be an incredible album. Everything Changes popped up on Youtube, and I'm in love.
  2. I pretty much agree with every part of your review, though I'd drop Xanadu slightly to a 9/10 (I'm not a fan of the way it just repeats itself with little variation -- same with Camera Eye, but as a whole it's a great song). I might drop CTTH and Madrigal a point each as well. I also agree with the intro of Cygnus being too long.
  3. I agree with this review the least so far. Lessons and Tears both get 8's? 2112 would get a solid 8.5/10 as I think it's their least impressive epic, but still a ton of awesomeness. Bangkok and Twilight Zone would probably get 6/10, with Lessons getting a 3/10 and Tears a 3.5/10. Something For Nothing might get a 6/10 as well. I never understood the love for this album. The title track is great, but the rest are so underwhelming. If they would've had another really strong track anchor the second side (ala Hemispheres with LVS), then it might rate higher as a whole.
  4. Great episode last night. I really enjoyed it. One thing I don't get is why they're making such a big deal out of this Randall guy. I just don't understand the rationale for having to kill him. Not even from a moral point of view, I just literally don't get what harm he is to the group.
  5. Everything from Back In The World Of Adventures to Unfold The Future is pretty much awesome. That includes 7 albums, of which 3 are double albums. Go in order from BITWOA. Get Retropolis, then Stardust We Are, then Flower Power, and so on. I seriously envy you right now. Listening to these albums for the first time is such an incredible experience. There is SO MUCH MUSIC and so much diversity contained within those albums that it's unbelievable how prolific they were in such a short period of time. The song Stardust We Are has to be heard to be believed. It's as uplifting as any song I've ever heard, and a massive musical journey. And that's not even counting Garden of Dreams, which probably tops Stardust We Are!
  6. Indifferent. Too much of the same, with too little variation between songs. But the songs themselves aren't awful...just boring. The riff at 3:18 of Peaceable Kingdom might be my favorite Alex riff ever though. As well as that riff in Secret Touch...you know the one. I like One Little Victory, Peaceable Kingdom, Vapor Trail, Earthshine, Sweet Miracle, and Freeze but I never have any urge to listen to them.
  7. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Feb 24 2012, 11:26 PM) QUOTE (GrandDesigner @ Feb 24 2012, 04:49 PM)I've always hated Lakeside Park. One of the lamest Rush songs. It's like Superconductor and Second Nature's lame older brother
  8. I've always hated Lakeside Park. One of the lamest Rush songs. Bastille Day is good, but I think it gets a little too much credit as well. ITIGB is a fun tune, but ultimately forgettable and basically a joke. The Fountain of Lamneth is a fantastic song, with each part contributing to an interesting and "otherworldly" sounding epic. Didacts & Narpets is pretty stupid though, they should've done something a little more natural sounding there. The Necromancer is probably the most controversial song on the album. It's pretty unique, and each part works well together. The narration works for me for some reason...it must be that mid 70's charm that makes it okay. I'd rate this album a 6/10 as a whole, mainly on the strength of Lamneth, Bastille Day, and The Necromancer
  9. You can make anything sound good with proper micing, EQing, etc. I'm not a fan of the way he tunes his toms (way too tight), and his lower toms get muddy, but I attribute that more to different tuning and micing techniques rather than fault with DW drums. His best drum sound was definitely MP.
  10. QUOTE (Tony R @ Feb 20 2012, 10:03 AM) TUrn Of The Century is fantastic! Most underrated song in prog history
  11. Okay, I thought the gunfight stuff was pretty cool. But holy shit they have TWO f*cked UP PEOPLE AT THE FARM NOW! IT NEVER ENDS... A couple things: 1) Not sure what the hell's going on with Daryl. I'd like to see him have more of an active part as he's one of the best characters, but I guess they need to "develop" him. 2) I hope Shane gets cool again. Or at least have him and Andrea run off on their own or something. How many confrontations are we going to have before someone actually does something interesting? Nitpicking aside, I did enjoy last night's episode quite a bit.
  12. QUOTE (ghostworks @ Feb 19 2012, 03:17 PM) you've obviously never heard: Anything She Does Trick Of The Tail Never A Time ...I suggest you keep it that way I couldn't even tell you what Never A Time sounds like it's so unmemorable, but A Trick Of The Tail and Anything She Does are GREAT!!!!!!
  13. Formentera Lady Islands Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus L'Via L'Viaquez Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore Cassandra Gemini Day Of The Baphomets Meccamputechture Tetragrammaton Lizard
  14. Great song. I remember everyone going nuts when this finally got put back in a setlist. Their 8-9 minute songs back in the 70's were all brilliant. South Side, Sound Chaser, To Be Over, Khatru, Perpetual Change, Yours Is No Disgrace, etc.
  15. QUOTE (treeduck @ Feb 19 2012, 05:23 PM) QUOTE (GrandDesigner @ Feb 19 2012, 06:41 AM) Oddly enough, I really like Islands. f***ing Lizard man, I listened to it yesterday and my only thought was "meh" You must like a totally different style of music from me is all I can say... Jazz metal is totally my thing too. The Mars Volta come to mind - they're a favorite of mine. I hate not hearing what other people are hearing!
  16. I never minded In Too Deep all that much, but Tell Me Why and Hold On My Heart are drivel. I can't imagine why they wasted setlist space on the 2007 tour with HOMH
  17. Oddly enough, I really like Islands. f***ing Lizard man, I listened to it yesterday and my only thought was "meh"
  18. QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Feb 13 2012, 11:38 AM) What was stupid about that was her going to get Rick. Why? He and Glenn were going into town to get Herschel back to the farm. There was no reason for her to even go. Rick and Glenn have proven they can handle themselves very well so far. She wasn't gonna be able to do anything that either one of them couldn't do. Rick knew about the girl collapsing before he left that's why he went to get Herschel. Exactly this. Rick and Glen knew what the hell they had to do, but this crazy bitch was going to go rush them back home, as if they were just going to hang out for awhile and take their time? Stupid. This whole farm nonsense NEEDS TO END
  19. Okay, help me like this album. I love the debut (and love Wake of Poseidon even more), but Lizard never grew on me. I cannot even remember a single part of this album except for Jon Anderson singing something about a lizard.
  20. If you're in a psychotic metal mood, check out Shining (Norwegian band). Blackjazz Deathtrance - Shining
  21. Pretty good review. I agree with most of it. I might rate Making Memories a bit higher, love that track. Best I Can is probably the weakest song on the album, with Rivendell not too far behind. I'm glad to see that you didn't kiss Bytor's ass like many other Rush fans. This song is completely and absolutely overrated IMO. It's good and has some interesting parts, but is just seems so underdeveloped, a problem that would occur with The Necromancer as well. I love In The End too, and wish they would bring it back for a tour. It'd be a huge surprise.
  22. From earliest to latest: Time Table The Cinema Show The Battle Of Epping Forest The Colony Of Slippermen Hairless Heart/Counting Out Time Anyway Ripples... Entangled One For The Vine Inside & Out Burning Rope Duchess Keep It Dark (Simon Collins has a really good version of this) Dodo No Reply At All Second Home By The Sea It's Gonna Get Better Invisible Touch Fading Lights
  23. Good to see a lot of love for Time Table. Most underrated Genesis song BY FAR, even by the band it seems as they never played it live
  24. QUOTE (driventotheedge @ Feb 13 2012, 02:48 AM) And I'm the exact opposite....I've totally dug Working Man since I first heard it. Ah, "wouldn't it be a real drag if we were all the same?" It's not a horrible song, but if I had a choice to hear any song off the album live, it'd be dead last (or tied for last with Finding My Way, another one I find unremarkable). The riff at 3:13 of Working Man is completely awesome though.
  25. It's just too long, with too much of the same. This has been the issue with every Rush album since Presto. 11-13 songs, all 4-6 minutes, in the same tempo range, with no really interesting song structures. If they chopped up 5 of the songs, and used those song ideas to add more unique passages and twists-and-turns to the remaining 8, then I might have a different opinion of it.
