  1. Many people in the arts and entertainment field use SoundCloud to have things heard by fans.
  2. The 'Taking Center Stage: A Lifetime of Live Performance' DVD to me is the companion piece to the 'Rush Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland' DVD.
  3. I don't see any reason why I would need the tour book or a t-shirt from a Rush concert. To me the actual concert and the accompanying DVD are enough for me. If I wanted to see what the tour books look like, I can check them out at the "Rush - Cygnus X1 - Rush Tour Dates, Tour Books and Set Lists" page.
  4. I am thankful I got to see the entire Rush concert on The Time Machine Tour without having to go for a washroom break. I did my duties before the concert and did not have anything to eat or drink during the show.
  5. I think people should buy the same music 17 times.
  6. David Barrett is an accomplished, Toronto-based guitarist who has played with some of the biggest names in Canadian music, produced several solo albums, and composed music for film and television. In recent years he's played lead guitar with The Classic Albums Live series, was the Director Of Special Events at The Toronto Fingerstyle Guitar Association, and is currently a coach at The League Of Rock. He also recently formed the David Barrett Trio with Sascha Tukatsch and Jason Farrar and has recorded a few tunes with the help of his friend and mentor Alex Lifeson. From a recent post on Barrett's blog here. 'Exactly a year ago, I played my new solo album The Dead Arm for guitar hero and mentor Alex Lifeson. He liked it and mentioned that maybe we should consider doing something together in the future. I agreed. He advised me to write a ton of music which we would then later sift through and pick the best tunes to develop. His other advice was to include some other musicians to further develop the songs. I asked Sascha Tukatsch to play drums and Jason Farrar to play bass. We arranged the music and worked really hard on it. Their contributions and enthusiasm have been truly outstanding! After the Rush Time Machine tour ended and Big Al was rested, we went into his studio and recorded three tunes: Hollowbody, Sonar, and Disappearance. Rich Chycki engineered. Rich produced my first solo album back in 1995, everything I've learned about recording I've learned from Rich, I don't think there's anyone better. And Big Al's approach to arranging, performance, and production was truly illuminating. We also had a lot of laughs in the studio, more than I can remember on any sessions I've ever done. We've finished these three and will release them soon, once we figure out the details. I just wanted to let everyone know that we've got some new music ready to be released and that we're very excited about the whole thing!' Hollowbody, Sonar, and Disappearance are available to purchase on Amazon and iTunes and can be heard on the David Barrett Trio Soundcloud Page. The Trio is asking for assistance to fund a full album project via RocketHub at this link here. Jacob Moon (who did the acoustic rendition of 'Subdivisions' by Rush on the roof), also pursued the crowdfunding concept via RocketHub with acquiring financing for his guitar instructional DVD here. He also discusses how beneficial the crowdfunding concept was for him in this interview here. (MOD EDIT: link fixed)
  7. I wouldn't change anything at all. I was satisfied with what was performed.
  8. I have read comments from fans that 'Stick It Out' was not a song that many were fond of that the band played on 'The Time Machine Tour'. However I am glad the band played that song because that was the first Rush song I heard and saw the video for when I discovered them back in 1993. Also my brother and I were fans of Beavis and Butthead at that time and it was hilarious when they poked fun at the song. So if I had to pick a Rush album as a desert island disc, it would be Counterparts because 'Stick It Out' is on it and every song from that album is great.
  9. QUOTE (paul tucker @ Jul 3 2011, 03:20 PM) My name is Paul Tucker. I am the founder of Pyramid Guitars with my partner Tim Jagmin. We opened Pyramid Guitars, in Redford, in 1975, and I sold it to Paul "cowboy" Smith in 1979-80. The solid body Pyramid guitar was the first guitar that Tim had built in 1976, and Alex bought it. We did all the work on Rush's guitars. The guitar was solid thru body construction using rock maple, rosewood, and purple heart. This is why some refer to it as the striped guitar, natural finish. Pyramid pickups, which Tim also developed and made, stainless steel frets, and the "Tree of Life" inlay in the neck was gold and silver vine with abalone heart flowers. A pyramid inlayed into the head stock. Alex took the guitar in the original state but later had us put Gibson humbuckers in it and paint it cream white. The latest info I have about the guitar is it probably is cream white, but while being used on tour, an overhead speaker fell and hit the guitar doing some kind of damage. We also built the "Space Bass" (tear drop blue), and did the modifications to Geddy's basses. Related thread below: Alex Lifeson's L500 pickup question is ANSWERED!
  10. I met Ben Mink (who played violin on 'Losing It' and 'Faithless' and who was part of Geddy's solo album 'My Favorite Headache) at the Vancouver show on the Time Machine Tour. He was sitting a row behind me two seats down.
  11. I was viewing Rush 'The Making of Snakes And Arrows' documentary online. At 3:35-3:36, here I wonder what that is in the ashtray.
  12. To celebrate Canada Day a few days ago (July 1st), check out this clip with comedian Rick Mercer from 2005 and pay close attention to the t-shirt he's wearing.
  13. QUOTE (Kelly D @ Jul 4 2011, 08:10 PM) QUOTE (RushFanForever @ Jul 4 2011, 07:33 AM) This was my first time seeing Rush in concert and it was spectacular. I was in 7th row in the stands on Geddy's side. Ben Mink (who played violin on 'Losing It' and 'Faithless' and produced Geddy's solo album 'My Favorite Headache') was behind me a row two seats down. I had the opportunity to shake Ben's hand and say thank you for his contributions to Rush and other great musical acts he has worked with such as the Canadian progressive rock band FM, k.d. lang, Heart, and others. Apparently Geddy gave a nod to my Terry Fox tribute sign that I had showing to the stage during 'Marathon'. So glad we could spend the time before and after the concert together!!! Ditto.

  15. QUOTE (Oracle @ May 28 2011, 05:05 PM) Until it's confirmed on the band's site, I'm not believing this. I could definitely see it near the holiday season though. The official Rush.com is rarely on the ball with anything. By the time they put up news, it is old. Even Atlantic Records website on the band has not posted anything new at all. It's as if they do not acknowledge that the band exists. Rushisaband.com and other fan sites are more current with posting information than anything.
  16. QUOTE (irish_matt @ Apr 8 2011, 06:42 AM) QUOTE (puscifer @ Apr 6 2011, 02:21 PM) QUOTE (RodrigoAltaf @ Apr 6 2011, 02:17 PM) Didn't he use them also on the GuP tour when they played The Weapon? Yes you're correct. If I'm not mistaken though they didn't use in ear monitors back then though. Just regular on stage monitors. In ear monitor technology wasn't that big or maybe even around back then?!?! Don't quote me on that though. Neil used headphones for the Weapon etc as he had a click track running. However, for the last 8-10 years Neil hasn't used a click track even though there are plenty of sequences and samples. He relies on rehearsal to nail the tempo and adjusts during the song where necessary. They were also used on 'Red Sector A' earlier on, probably for the same reason to be a click track. Here is footage of 'The Weapon' containing the headphones as well. Neil Peart wasn't wearing the giant headphones at the Cleveland show. This probably would have been an embarrassment for him with the camera's rolling.

  19. Bassist Fred Turner from 'Bachman-Turner Overdrive' who is touring with Randy Bachman as 'Bachman-Turner' now can still hit the notes like the 70's and retain the grit of his voice and he is 67 years of age. I am not putting Geddy down, but I am sure Fred can offer Geddy some advice on the vocals.
  20. QUOTE (xredsectorx @ Jan 28 2011, 05:12 PM) Nope. There's at least one seat left ha ha If there is, it is probably going to Jacob Moon since he mentioned on his Facebook page that he is seeing the band when they come through.
  21. Popsike.com is a website that tracks what vinyl is worth. I found this to be a better search for finding albums because it delves into more detail. Counterparts Vapor Trails
  22. QUOTE (snowdogged @ Dec 28 2010, 06:12 AM) Here is some other stuff on it. Link There is more here.
  23. QUOTE (tripdad @ Dec 24 2010, 05:23 PM) First off, my disclaimer - if this has been discussed in the past I apologize in advance. Seems when something has been discussed years prior on this forum someone always has to call me on it and act like everyone and their brother already knows about it and there is no need to post yet again. (Really I'm tired of that shit!) I was chatting with a FB friend today who is a big VH fan. He said there was a story in David Lee Roth's book (don't know what book) about Eddie and Geddy getting into a scuff after a show. He said that both bands were playing some gig and they decided to flip to see who would go on first (effectively choosing the opening act). Rush lost and went on first. The story goes that after Rush played Geddy refused to allow VH's roadies on stage for setup until all the Rush equipment was off the stage which delayed VH coming on stage. The story continued that after the show Eddie saw Geddy in a bar and sucker punched him for the delay. Supposedly even breaking his nose. Now I have never heard this story and I think it's all BS. First off, I don't see anyone in Rush acting like that after a show. Secondly, I don't see Geddy even being in a bar after a show. Has anyone ever heard this story? Any validation to it? APRIL 15TH BABY!! Is this the book? Crazy from the Heat by David Lee Roth I wish there was an official date of this gig listed somewhere. The Power Windows Tribute site does not have anything on it. This is similar to the rumors of Heart opening for Rush in the early 80's which did not happen.
