I've never seen the remake, but the original scared the crap out of me. Have you seen the original? If so, what did you think of it and what made the remake more frightening? The original was a great movie, no doubt about that, but I honestly believe the remake outshines it; don't want to put any spoilers here (if you like the original I'd recommend you see the remake), but it's just one of those rare films where they actually get everything (casting, mood, atmosphere) right. They use every trick in the book to get you, but even though you know something's about to happen, it gets you every time. Incidentally, is there a factory in the USA which produces scary looking kids? If so, Dakota Fanning is their cover girl I've just gone from watching movies with the sound through a decent hifi to a full-on 7:1 surround sound system & I want to watch this again, but I know full well my wife will spend most of the film watching me & laughing at my reactions. The remake sounds very interesting, it's so rare to see them get one right. I don't know if I'll ever see it though. The first one scared me so bad that I can't watch it again. So if the remake is scarier, like you say, I probably won't sleep for the rest of the year. Normally horror movies don't get to me that much but ones involving hauntings or paranormal activity are the movies that freak me out the most. I agree with you about Dakota Fanning, I think Miko Hughes (Gage from Pet Sematary, Dylan from New Nightmare) came from the same creepy kid factory. That brat has been giving me nightmares for years. I still don't know what vampire biscuits are supposed to taste like... Okay, you asked for it. They taste like titties! It refers to a gothic girl's generous endowments. I first came across the term when I was reading Marilyn Manson's autobiography in high school. I've used it around the internet ever since then, even though it's not the classiest name, it's distinctive, so I kept it.

I started watching them when Mike was the host, so I'd have to say he is my favorite. It would be almost impossible to pick a favorite episode, but the ones I've seen the most are MST3K: The Movie and Werewolf. "Now that I can drive, those caribou don't stand a chance!" "It's just that so many things have happened since we discovered those remains." "Not things again!" http://i893.photobucket.com/albums/ac133/AmokTime85/wheresmy.jpg Big Mike fan here too! Gotta give Joel his respect, but Mike is way funnier IMO. And Werewolf is such a hilarious episode! "Skin-walker." "Skin-walker?" Mike: "Texas skin-ranger." Awesome! I actually just watched 'Manos: The Hands of Fate' after seeing so much love for it here, I was embarrassed that I'd never seen it. But Joel had some pretty funny moments in that one, I like his dry sense of humor but I like the back and forth between Mike, Crow and Tom Servo more. Werewolf is hilarious, I think I'm going to have to watch it again! "Look Noel, I'm not superstitious." "I'm stupid." "This really isn't any kind of conventional animal I'm familiar with." "It's not a bunny!" I'm going to bump it up to the top of my queue and watch again too. Oh yeah Manos is classssic! Joel has a lot of great moments. I was in the same boat as you.... I only watched it recently after hearing it's so popular. I've watched almost every Mike episode, by my Joel-era knowledge is a little lacking. The history behind Manos is crazy too.... the actor who played Torgo was left permanently crippled by improperly worn leg braces (remember how he walks funny the whole time?). Manos is not merely the worst film ever made.... it actually ruined lives. Oh wow, that's horrible that the guy who played Torgo in Manos was actually crippled by those braces he had to wear! It didn't even look like he was wearing braces, I thought they had just stuffed pillows in his pants to make him look awkward or something. Talk about adding insult to injury, sacrificing your legs for that movie! I came across this MST3K clip the other day and have to post it here- one of my favorite sketches with Mike.

  4. QUOTE (Leslie145 @ Jun 27 2012, 04:27 AM) QUOTE (VampireBiscuits @ Jun 8 2012, 04:49 PM) First off, I have to say to the OP, I can understand your frustration with horror films to a certain point. However, if you just dig a little bit you will find a wealth of quality horror films. It just takes a little effort. Maybe someday the most marketable and popular horror movies will be good ones, but for now, this is what horror fans have to do. So even if on the surface, it seems like they are all about gore, that's not always the case. Okay, so enough of that, here's some other horror movies I would recommend, while trying not to mention movies that have already been listed: -The Mist: Some gore, but more on the psychological side. It's one of the Stephen King adaptations that actually works. -[REC]: One of the scariest horror movies I've seen in years, an excellent Spanish take on the zombie story. -The Exorcism of Emily Rose: Half courtroom drama, half demon possession movie and it works surprisingly well. Jennifer Carpenter gives an awesome performance. -Se7en: If you haven't seen this you are missing out, I can't say enough good things about this film. -American Psycho: Christian Bale's best performance in my opinion. -Misery: Excellent psychological horror and the reason I'm terrified of Kathy Bates. Excellent post & a good summation of why it's worth it for fans of well made horror to make that liitle bit more effort to find gems among the brown smelly stuff. As well as those listed above (Emily Rose in particular - stunning movie!) and previously in this thread... Red Dragon - Now, I'm as big a fan of Manhunter as anyone, but they actually got it right when they remade it with the same(ish) cast/budget as Silence Of The Lambs. Hellraiser I - III - OK I know, cheesy, but I think well made (despite the foot in mouth line in III - Pinhead: "you can act in your world" Audience: "No she bloody can't!!" Amityville Horror (the remake) - not everyone's fond of remakes, but I am so long as they're welll done; in my opinion, this one was... to the extent that I'd hesitate before watching it on my own (I'm 49 ) Pan's Labarynth - one of the most beautifully filmed fantasy/horror crossovers you'll ever see As soon as I hit 'Add Reply' I'll think of others, but there's a few to mull over Thank you! I agree with you about Hellraiser 1-III, they have some cheesy moments but Pinhead is such an awesome villain that I'm willing to forgive it's flaws. I actually own all the Hellraiser movies (except for the remake) but the first 3 are the best and the most re-watchable. I'm curious about what you said regarding the remake of Amityville Horror. I've never seen the remake, but the original scared the crap out of me. Have you seen the original? If so, what did you think of it and what made the remake more frightening?
  5. QUOTE (ShlappinDahBass @ Jun 11 2012, 12:50 PM) Yes! No one I know (except my dad) knows/likes MST3K! I am so happy I have found others. lol. My personal favorites are Touch of Satan, Horrors of Spider-Island (personal fave), Soul Taker, and Werewolf. So ungodly funny, these guys are. Clip from Horrors of Spider-Island: ..."Actress" is attempting to hang a pot while talking to others and cooking but completely misses the rack....drops the pan whilst looking confused. Mike, mimicking the actress - "It didn't stay in the air!" How have I not seen 'Horrors from Spider Island'?? I'm going to have to watch that one next, it sounds hilarious!

  8. QUOTE (CrossedSignals @ Jun 8 2012, 09:48 PM)I'm not a big horror fan, but I tend to like my horror flicks as UNintelligent as possible. Bring on the cheesy spooky goofy goodness! The Evil Dead 2 is one of my favorites too! The whole Evil Dead series, really. I love campy horror as much as psychological horror. Some of my favorite cheesy horror movies are Dead Alive, Bad Taste, Black Sheep, Dead Snow, Galaxy of Terror, The Lost Boys, Feast, The Kingdom of the Spiders, Lake Placid and Tremors.
  9. First off, I have to say to the OP, I can understand your frustration with horror films to a certain point. And as a horror fan, I have to say in your original post you were too hard on the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. I apologize in advance to all the Friday the 13th and Halloween fans, but Nightmare on Elm Street to me, was always a cut above the rest. Because of the dream element and an great actor playing an original and creative villain with personality and a demented sense of humor, they were able to go places other slasher movies couldn't. Especially with the pyschological element, Freddy literally gets into your head and makes your worst nightmare a reality. I would recommend you giving those movies a second chance. My personal favorites are the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and Wes Craven's re-imagining (which is darker and a bit more psychological) New Nightmare. Okay, so enough of that, here's some other horror movies I would recommend, while trying not to mention movies that have already been listed: -The Shadow of the Vampire: This movie has an incredible cast, John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe- Dafoe is unrecognizable in his role as the vampire, he gives an incredible performance. -The Mist: Some gore, but more on the psychological side. It's one of the Stephen King adaptations that actually works. -Rosemary's Baby: Very creepy, classic psychological horror. -The Host: Monster movie/drama from South Korea that is far from being just about the creature- who's design is excellent by the way. -Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon: An awesome horror slasher mockumentary with a nice dark sense of humor. -Se7en: If you haven't seen this you are missing out, I can't say enough good things about this film. -American Psycho: Christian Bale's best performance in my opinion. -Misery: Excellent psychological horror and the reason I'm terrified of Kathy Bates.
  10. 1. The Original Series 2. The Next Generation 3. Deep Space Nine 4. Voyager 5. Enterprise I know it looks like I just listed them in chronological order, but these are my favorites. I'm still getting into Deep Space Nine though, so it's order may switch soon.
  11. I love horror movies and I'm 26. If left to my own devices, horror is the majority of what I watch. I grew up in a strict religious household and was never allowed to watch horror movies growing up, but I always wanted to. Once I was on my own, I started catching up on what I missed out on, and now I can't get enough. Good horror, bad horror, old or new, it doesn't matter, I like it all. Especially the Nightmare on Elm Street and Hellraiser franchises.
  12. Has anyone here seen the original V? I just finished watching it and I'm curious how closely the new show follows it. I'll give it a try soon, but I was just wondering.
  13. Both of the themes that have creeped me out have already been mentioned, Unsolved Mysteries and The X Files. As a kid, they both terrified me, especially the X Files. The show would always come on just as my sisters and I were supposed to be going to bed, and nothing would get us there faster than that theme song. As soon as we heard it playing, if we weren't already on our way to our rooms, we were definitely there by the time it finished playing. I laugh about it now, especially since I've gotten over that and love to watch reruns of the show whenever it's on.

I've heard of that episode of Babylon 5 he is in, but I haven't seen it yet! I actually just started the show recently, I'm just barely into the first season so far. The 7th movie however, New Nightmare, I would highly recommend if you haven't seen it. It's one of the best of the franchise, Wes Craven came back and did a whole re-imagining of Freddy, it's quite good. Well, my sister has the set of all the films, and I have been planning to watch them all one of these days... I know I've seen the first three, but I don't know where in the order the other one is - it's the one where the actors are actually themselves, but Freddy still appears as a seperate person from Robert! I love sci-fi guys too, especially Spock/Leonard Nimoy. (Nothing wrong with aliens! Haha!) I also really like Data from Next Generation- not an alien, but an android is probably weird enough! That Nightmare on Elm Street movie you mentioned with the actors appearing as themselves is New Nightmare! Looks like you've probably already seen all my favorite Freddy movies- the 1st one, 3rd one and New Nightmare. I just wish they would have left well enough alone and not made the Nightmare on Elm Street remake last year with Jackie Earle Haley instead of Robert Englund. Oh yes, I like me some Data too. Have you seen I agree with you about the Nightmare on Elm Street remake - we don't plan on ever seeing that one. We're boycotting it! No one can play Freddy except Robert Englund, goddammit!! Glad to hear I'm not alone! And that video is HILARIOUS! I have actually seen it before, but it had been a while and that just never gets old! Here's two of my favorite Data videos- they aren't as funny as yours, but equally awesome! I actually had the misfortune of seeing the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, I wish I could say I had boycotted it too! In my defense, I had only just started watching the NOES movies- I hadn't become a fan yet and a friend wanted to go see it at the movie theater so I went with them. It was even worse than it looked! And unfortunately the remake made so much money that they are going to do another one! I will be boycotting that one for sure!

  19. QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ Feb 27 2011, 05:46 PM) You all make me feel better...everyone always aks if my boyfriend, who's 24 years older than I am, is my dad. And it's always been this way...a couple of other guys I dated were 18 years older. Rush is about 20 years older. That must be the age for me! I know how you feel! I've gotten the same thing, people thinking my husband is my dad (he's 20 years older than me). A lot of people think my husband closely resembles Ozzy Osbourne, and once when we were walking together in San Francisco, someone on the street shouted to us, "Look! It's Ozzy and his daughter!" It doesn't bother us though, we both get a kick out of it.

Dude, why are all the attractive men way older than us?! Geddy, for example, is forty-one years older than me--old enough to be my dad. He's even older than my dad. Alice is sixty-three. And they're both rock musicians. Why all the older rockstars? I dunno. Why question it? Older men are sexy, musicians or otherwise! I've loved them since I was young, I even ended up marrying one! I was actually thinking about this just the other day, and in my boredom, I figured out the average age of the male celebrities I have crushes on is 63! (I'm 25) I just can't help myself! And I have to say, I loved the pictures just posted of Alan Rickman! He's gorgeous, and has a great voice!
  21. Cult movies are some of my very favorite movies in general, so I'll try to keep the list short; Hedwig and the Angry Inch The Rocky Horror Picture Show The Killer Tongue Pink Flamingos Female Trouble The Crow Galaxy of Terror Dead Alive/Braindead Bad Taste The Big Lebowski Black Sheep (2006) Labyrinth Kingdom of the Spiders The Evil Dead 2 Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon Half Baked Priscilla Queen of the Desert Natural Born Killers Office Space Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer Monty Python and the Holy Grail Dark City Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Night of the Living Dead (1968) EDIT: I almost forgot The Fountain (2006, Aronofsky) Ah! And I forgot Tremors (1-3) too! So much for keeping it short.
  22. Easily my favorite; Star Trek TOS Other favorites; Dexter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhKRhk49iqQ Flight of the Conchords http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=242kR8uSeQ4 Monty Python's Flying Circus Doctor Who (2008)
  23. I've watched most of the episodes so far, it is really something else! I have a bit of an addictive personality myself, so I watch it partly to scare myself, a sort of 'this could be you if you're not careful'. It's working great so far! Haha
  24. The trailer looks interesting, but I'm keeping my expectations low, Manson seems to have lost his touch lately, but who knows, maybe that's because he was putting more time into projects like this movie instead of his music. Phantasmagoria has been in limbo for years, I'm glad to see it finally has a trailer, does anyone know if it actually has a release date yet?
  25. I was 11 when Independence Day came out and was already obsessed with aliens, so I loved it. It remains a guilty pleasure for me to this day, I have to watch it whenever I see it on tv, no matter how much my husband complains. It's the movie equivalent of junk food, I know it's bad but I just can't help it!
