  1. At first I thought is sounded no different and that the sound stage was narrow with a lot of mud. Problem was, I had done a calibration on my system prior and it set my full size fronts to roll off at 450Hz and my center to roll off at around 170...why I have no idea.Basically sending anything below that to my sub. So here i am trying to adjust my mids with the built in eq but since they had a high roll off, anything i tried to adjust below 450 was nulled out by the calibration settings. So I set my fronts to 80Hz (THX) and my center to 90 and Presto. I also tweaked the built in eq and now it sounds 1000% better
  2. Go back to his original drum setup..pre Freddie for sure, then mix in his old style with a little of post Freddie. Improv enough for me.....
  3. QUOTE (Petamo @ Aug 18 2012, 07:43 AM) I did buy it and determined it is the same mix as the CD I already had, so I don't think it was worth the additional $20. Sonically there is just not that much of a difference. Not that you asked, but of all the versions I've heard I far prefer my vinyl copy. I agree the vinyl sounds better.
  4. I really hope he does, his solo's have really gotten long in the tooth. Just open up your mind and let your limbs do what they want. I keep hearing over and over again that Neil can't keep up with the younger "modern generation",which is bullshit. He just never focused on one narrow style like a lot of "modern" drummers" do. If you listen closely, over the years..it's ALL there. IS his drumming easier than it used to be...in some ways yes and in some ways no. HLF is deceptively harder than what it sounds. Sure i can play it with wrists only. But if i want to nail all of the accents while playing it with the power to make it sound the same.....whole different story all together. There is a reason why he is regarded and one of the best all around drummers of all time by us, and more importantly by his peers.
  5. I'm not defending anybody but i do get what he is saying since i have done the same thing.......countless times. An example is when i downloaded a copy of a studio recording software. 30 days is no where near enough time to figure out if i want to spend $500.00 on it. I had it for six months before i decided to purchase it. Of course $500.00 IS a lot more then the cost of a cd but the principal is still the same. Had i not liked it in the end, just like his opinion of the music....it ends up in the recycle bin. If i like it, I buy it. The only difference would be in the honesty of doing the right thing in the end.
  6. QUOTE (Dscrapre @ Jul 4 2012, 01:18 AM) I really like the simplified approach that he took on this album, the way it sounds like he's playing with urgency and reckless abandon. I find this especially true on the title track, The Anarchist, Seven Cities of Gold, and Headlong Flight. He has a great groove on this album. Neil is taking fewer flights of fancy and really playing for the songs on this one. What he lacks in flash, he makes up for in honesty, power, pocket-sense, and soul. It's a nice change-of-pace to hear him just jamming like this.
  7. #2 in my book...next to buddy with Jim Chapin a close 3rd. As far as most influential.........whole different story, and should be added to the equation.
  8. QUOTE (presto123 @ Jun 26 2012, 08:44 PM) QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Jun 26 2012, 07:14 PM) I cranked it for the first time in my Truck today, and I really noticed how bad the production is. Especially the mixing.....at a loud volume it certainly doesn't sound too good. It's an very good system too.... I re-EQ'd it just a hair on my audio editor and it sounds not just good but great. Huge difference. What levels did you push or pull and what plugin. I was going to run it through Izotope but i downloaded the FLAC. So i will just rip it and try soon.
  9. I remember going to Cleveland stadium to watch a fight and a football game broke out between the Steelers and Browns.
  10. Headlong Flight is definitely metal.....not HEAVY but metal for sure.
  11. QUOTE (Literatii @ Jun 21 2012, 08:03 PM) If you're talking Tour de force, Neil has already admitted that he'd never do an album like Hemispheres again. Which is good, because La Villa Strangiato broke my balls But I have to say 2112 is no slouch either. Finally, Farewell to Kings has some chops that were difficult to play for me to this day. Spirit of Radio (Jacob's ladder in particular) is challenging. Just goes on and on. Best doesn't end. It's more like "what's new" with Peart. Jacobs ladder was harder to learn for me than LaVilla was. The time signatures is what killed me. i gave up counting it out when i was younger and just "learned it".
  12. I'm on there but don't know where....i haven't unfolded it yet. David Rice
  13. Got an Oracle Delphi that i would not trade for anything. It's not real high end, but it gets the job done. I also have a Technics SL-M2 that i might be persuaded to part with.
  14. Damn you guy's are making me homesick. I lived all over Ohio from Cleveland,Bay Village, Mentor when i was younger. To all areas of Cincinnati (my hometown), Lima,Columbus Grove and middletown ......no pun intended.
  15. QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Jun 20 2012, 09:57 PM) QUOTE (launchpad67a @ Jun 20 2012, 05:06 PM) The notes you don't play are the most important in music. Damned straight. What does all the crap pop-rock of today have in common? Constant noise......constant bang crash, chord bashing, cymbals, noise, noise, NOISE!! The listeners' ears don't have a chance...... It is what it is...................
  16. QUOTE (KTMMan @ Jun 20 2012, 10:53 AM) I don't really think going gold for an album means what it used to as the only real way back in the day to get a good quality copy was to buy the album or maybe make a cassette copy of a friend's. Nowadays there are so many other avenues to "steal" the music in good quality form or in a form that quality isn't an issue that most non diehard fans will simply do that and put in on an IPOD without caring about the packaging thus the sales numbers do not reflect how many actually have the album - IMO Too true.......unfortunately. Hell i bought the fan pack and the regular cd.
  17. QUOTE (syrinxstarman @ Jun 20 2012, 02:52 PM) As a drummer, I love it. You don't have to be playing every single moment, plus the guitar sounds amazing by itself. I feel like it adds suspense.
  18. QUOTE (Two0neOneTwo @ Jun 20 2012, 02:13 PM) ucsteve667 has nailed exactly what I've been saying here about the mix/mastering. Great interview guys! More of this please! Hey, invite me would ya! Once again great job, a very entertaining and satisfying 2 part interview. Congrats! +1
  19. There's that F#(&%*G phrase again......".power trio". For crying out loud, get out of th 80's.

    The Garden

You got to figure that they have family and friends who have stood by them for MOST of their lives, to some extent waiting for them to retire by now I'm sure. If this happened to be their last, then i say it's a terrific ending and put quite simply... Thank You.
