  1. I like what you're saying especially....... QUOTE (CygnusGal @ Jul 14 2012, 02:41 PM)As an aside, and as an intellectual exercise: Presuming *everything* Neil has written since 1997 has been based in anger, grief and loss (a premise with which I do not agree), the CA album through its Candide reference explicitly discredit that conclusion and prove Neil's healing is complete even though his memories remain. IMO, that's how he writes songs like The Anarchist and The Wreckers so well.

    This is cool

QUOTE (Gompers @ Apr 20 2012, 09:09 AM)I received an email from an old friend just now. I thought I'd pass on his words (removing names to protect the innocent): QUOTE Hey Rich!! It's nice to hear from you! All ok with me and I hope with you as well! My brother ----- actually told me about the new album "Clockwork Angels" to be released June 12 - he's already heard the whole thing courtesy of his friend Nick Raskulinecz. He told me the whole thing is amazing, and Nick told him that Neil, Alex and Geddy actually consider it one of the best three albums they've ever done :-) One of the best three albums they've ever done! ...................they were right! For the words of the pro(phets) were written on the studio wall, Concert hall And echoes with the sounds (upsends me) (my edit)

    BU2B2 is not a song

Just the way it fades out and how WTW bounces in, and being that it's the begining of The Pedlar 2. It does have a beauty to it..................if it seen by some as "dull" then parts of the song 2112 are equally "dull"........don't get me wrong, 2112 is a great song, but the tempo does change dramatically.......and so it is with BU2B2/WTW. .......I guess we'll find out in concert if they play them together.........hope so....
  5. We can only go the way the wind blows We can only bow to the here and now Or be broken down blow by blow
  6. I still cling to hope And I believe in love And that's faith enough for me

  8. QUOTE (SUBDIVISIONS @ Jul 5 2012, 08:34 AM)After Clockwork touring they will take a break and will come back with R40 R40 might be the last RUSH tour And clockwork angels might be the last record Actually its so good, that they dont need to make another record I think they finally found the secret river Alph they walked the caves of ice They break their fast on honey dew and drunk the milk of paradise RUSH dont need to make another record, they just did it That record that Geddy always was trying to achieve finally arrived I think its better than any other Shoulder to shoulder with 2112 I cant take it out of my mind, it really caught me. GOD BLESS RUSH! .......well said. If it is, I'd be sad, but not disappointed. Wow! What a way to finish! At any rate.......there's something epic and grand about this album. Invisible airwaves Crackle with life Bright antennae bristle With the energy Emotional feedback On a timeless wavelength Bearing a gift beyond price- Almost free...
  9. ........has to be the CA intro.....especially the ending of that intro @ :50 repeated around 2:06 & 3:38 & 6:08.........roll them drums brother! "As if to fly"!
  10. QUOTE (CygnusX-1Bk2 @ Jul 3 2012, 04:24 PM)QUOTE (jc4gd @ Jul 3 2012, 04:10 PM) Question for you audio mix/mastering gurus/geeks. Could it be the audio equipment Rush heard the final mix/master on didn't show these problems because unlike our/my "average joe" equipment.........it just sounded fine on whatever they used to listen to it on? Was their 'High-Fidelity' equipment the undoing? Honestly though their hearing is suspect after playing thousands of shows standing right in front of extremely loud amps (Alex especially) and now they have in ear monitors so God knows what that sounds like and at what volume. Thanks..... ...........wow, never considered that...............

    Is Rush Metal?

QUOTE (treeduck @ Jul 3 2012, 01:10 PM)QUOTE (jc4gd @ Jul 2 2012, 08:09 PM) QUOTE (treeduck @ Jul 1 2012, 09:07 PM)QUOTE (BriGuy @ Jul 1 2012, 11:04 PM) There may be metal fans who find elements of their music in some of Rush's work, in particular their earlier stuff, but that doesn't make Rush metal. There's too much Rush material that isn't anywhere near "metal" at all. And that's where the metal fans slip away. Rock, hard rock, prog rock... but not metal. It's METAL! It's not, it's Prog Rock............okay so what other bands do you consider "heavy metal"? It's not prog, prog is Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Van Der Graaf Generator, King Crimson, Pink Floyd et al. You don't think Rush sound like these bands do you? Rush is much more heavy riff based. I agree Rush is heavier and always has been..............and I would not put them with those bands.........Rush is on the top end of the genre, in fact they alone could be called Progressive Rock(they really own the genre), but unlike bands like Dream Theater, Redemption, and Symphony X, I would not call them Progressive Metal..........

  14. QUOTE (Bangster of Goats @ Jun 13 2012, 03:19 PM)QUOTE (analog guy @ Jun 13 2012, 01:22 PM) It's the guitar riff. The second one, at 0:56. There's something about that which is very much a throwback, and a nice hook to boot. Almost sounds like it could have been lifted from an Exit Stage Left solo. That's the one bit on the record that's being stuck in my head today. I already made a ringtone out of it. This this this. The first time I heard that part I was all like "oh hello there 1981!" And the song as a whole is just awesome. Packed full of cool riffs and energy. Ah yes, that early 80's vibe.............. http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?showtopic=75426

    Is Rush Metal?

Never were, never will be.....................but definitely influenced many metal bands.........still Rush was and is Progressive Rock..........sure there are overlaps as with any genre.........the only word I would add if any would be Technical Progressive Rock...... http://www.metalstorm.net/bands/band.php?b...2&bandname=Rush http://www.metalcrypt.com/genres.php?vm=r&s=1

    That Darn Anarchist

Great Thread, great posts!....................here's my spin.............. Yes, definitely not new themes he's written about............combination of belief 1) In humanity (Faithless/CloserTTH/EN)TS "The world is, the world is, Love and life are deep, Maybe as his eyes are wide." C "I can't stop thinking big" 2) Unbelief in "blind men in the market" religion (BU2B1&2)/CA) "Ignorance is well and truly blessed, Trust in perfect love, and perfect planning, Everything will turn out for the best", and hypocrisy(WishTW/ShowDT) and 3) A fatalist god [Watchmaker] (TLBowl/HalfTW) "If there's some immortal power To control the dice? RTB" or some mixture (Totem). 4) Lastly, how bout the hope of immortality while being mortal? 7COG "That gleam in the distance could be heaven's gate A long-awaited treasure at the end of my cruel fate." "Summer's going fast, Nights growing colder Children growing up- Old friends growing older Experience slips away..."TSS, "The hours tick away - the cells tick away" "Hope is what remains to be seen" TheG also Xan "I had heard the whispered tales Of immortality"........... . ......so I agree with you except that the protagonist "simply learns to live with it", rather, even while facing mortality I see a optimism as reflected in the last line of the album..........yeah, we'll find more clarity when the book comes out.........."A missing part of me that grows around me like a cage" TA Cheers

I hope you're kidding... I love Rush's music, but Geddy is not my brother and I don't "love him". In fact I've never met him, and I'm guessing you haven't either. I wish Geddy was my brother. I could use a loan right now. .........no he's not...nor have I met him..........but when you listen to him for 30 or so years, it sure feels like he is. You take this way too seriously! The guys from Rush are just guys. They seem like pretty good guys but we all show our age at some point and if anyone is in the spotlight, well can't we just be honest and speak the truth? They are hitting sixty and still putting out some damn good music! Damn right they are!
  19. Yes.................................that Rush high is back!!!
