  1. I agree. Also, where would they have found the time and money to pay for it? Neil has talked in interviews about how Fly By Night was literally written in hotel rooms because they were touring all the time. Mercury was unhappy with Caress of Steel and it was all Ray D. could do to talk Mercury into studio time for 2112. Mercury wouldn't have paid for the debut to be prerecorded and the guys themselves didn't have a lot of money at the time. True, but to add Neil's drum track to Alex and Geddy's original tracks could have been done in more recent years. No offense to Rutsey and his fans, (I liked him too) and it never ever bothered me before Neil passed but now when I listened to the RUSH album it did bother me that Neil's not on it.
  2. I agree, but think Rutsey was properly taken care of, and would have been even if they added a different version with Neil's drums. Again I bet you those tracks were recorded and are kept somewhere.
  3. Not listened to any Rush for a good few weeks and wasnt overly traumatised by Neil's death, was like he'd been gone a while anyway but, just gave Earthshine a hard blast when it came up on YT and was in awe once again at the majesty of this man's playing and lyrics. Tonight was the first time i felt a real sense of grief :( Different forms of coping, man. It was just the opposite for me. I was instantly shocked and I fell in some kind of Rush-therapy-listening mode, over the last few weeks. I listened to all the studio material, back and forth, and I threw some fine bootlegs in between. Now that he's gone, those live recordings showed me a new facet of appreciation that I haven't known before. I love the man even more now! I may be a weirdo but I will never lie. I slept with my Neil Peart 747 drumsticks one night after hearing the news. I can hear you, Earl! I'm even weirder. I'm reading Ghost Rider at the moment and at one point Neil, mentioned a song that he often sang to himself (trying to nail it) while riding his BMW. Now comes the weird part, I listened to the song and I love it! :D Here you go... Hank Snow... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGj7-R6WPf4 Then you need to start listening to Frank Sinatra too!

I slept with my Neil Peart 747 drumsticks one night after hearing the news. I get it. I bought a pair of those drumsticks after Neil passed. I tried them the other day, and found them too heavy for me - I guess Neil was pretty strong to be able to move those sticks so fast. At 6' 4" he was lager than life on drums.
  5. He played many of the songs in concerts. Just wish they had studio remixed or re-recorded it with him playing. I think it would have been that much better. Many bands re-record albums just because they can. What about the only Rush album without Neil on it? Has this been discussed here before and is there info somewhere? 1. Did Neil ever lay tracks, but the project got derailed/shelved?. Might they have such recording somewhere? or 2. They were just to busy making new music and touring to ever add Neil's tracks or just never bothered or cared to. or 3. ….

  7. You go through these books and it’s like you’re on the road with Neil traveling with him. You wake up and get on the motorcycle with him, stop for breakfast with him, go on some obscure ride with him, arrive at the venue with him to go to "work", after the show, have a Macallan with him, have dinner, then go to sleep on the bus to start the next day again. After going through 2 1/2 of his books almost listening up to three hours a day I finally found a section where he traveled some roads that I’ve traveled In Chapter 4 of Roadshow, Magic Shows and Golden Roads he mentions he goes over Mount Hamilton Road from Livrmore to San Jose and that it was one of the most windy roads he’d traveled on in the US. It’s nice to know that he was on the same road that I have gone on as I've gone up Mount Hamilton Road to go hiking sometimes. Also he mentions going to the Bay Bridge toll plaza and their “Dyngus” is all mixed up and sends him back down to 680 to San Jose. Well 680 goes by my house (even though 880 would’ve been a straighter shot for him (had we known each other he could have called me for directions!) R.I.P. Neil.

  11. Sorry it's not Rush but it is Neil. He says "I haven't played these ones yet" Gotta love it! Please a little more noise! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mUjLAWIj7E

  13. Poor Ozzy, looks like he's had a few face lifts too. Last I saw him at Ozzfest, same tour Sharon pulled the plug on Iron Maiden.
  14. GUP has very special memories for me too. As you said the realization of Neil’s deep influence on ones life. Lately, like many, I’ve been in album after Rush album and Neil’s books too. Even though Rush for me were not the ending point but more the starting, (Exit...SL with radio simulcast in early 80’s,) as I went on to heavier metal and it’s many genres. Still I would always go back to Rush cause their work was so foundational to so many a style of metal. So full circle.
  15. I saw them last April with David Ellefson on bass that night. Great musicianship. Album is quite good, with some generic tracks (like who doesn't do that these days!?) and some stand outs. I especially enjoyed the 16 minute closing track New World Today. Don't expect DT it's not, but really some brilliant talent coming together and it shows. The live album is really good especially the cover songs.

  17. It's a good lesson to learn. Another one that hopefully you'll learn is "don't put rock stars up on pedestals". I doubt Geddy and Alex want to be put on one. It’s water under the bridge. We live and we learn, and move on. Listening to Far and Wide and Traveling Music I’ve gotten to know Neil in a closer way I hadn't before. What made him tick, and what ticked him off. He seems to go back down memory lane in these books and you get a lot of childhood info too. More so in Traveling Music. I think it’s funny and admirable how he alluded fans and lived life on his terms. Few bands do 3 hour sets for months, and as a drummer it’s no walk in the park. He gave his all and all as long as he could, “in the fullness of time” he stopped. Now from all the listening to his books, I gotta try some Macallan! I’m not a drinker, but Neil’s got me too curious. Nowadays I keep staring whenever I see a bmw biker go by. sigh!
  18. Ex-LAMB OF GOD Drummer CHRIS ADLER Pays Tribute To NEIL PEART: 'He Defined And Continues To Define The Drummer's Role' "I've often been asked if I consider myself to be on his level. It's the wrong question and any answer is irrelevant. "Alone he defined and continues to define the drummer's role. His outreach, as described above, is second to none and not definable. In many ways, he challenged me and in many ways showed me how. "I've never listened to RUSH all that often, but its inescapable in my line of work. "I'll miss him. "Thank you, Neil." https://www.blabberm...-drummers-role/
  19. The last few tours it probably was hit and miss from night to night. I think i got a few miss's. Yet for a 3 hour show there were plenty of hits too. Not too many bands do 3 hours. I saw Dio (One of my all time favorite vocalists) in 2007 and thought his voice was just so terrible and that he should just get off the stage. I saw him again a few years later with Heaven & Hell, and his voice was just brilliant. Go figure. Vocals are not like instruments that you can get back in tune if they go out.
