  1. Max Webster, with Terry Watkinson on keys - the 'Million Vacations' line-up of the band. Would love to hear selections from MV again, as a way to prime the pump for Rush. Then you get a possibility of Battlescar for an encore, just like back in the old days. AND... Kim and Alex could do 'I think I'm going bald', too. LOLOL
  2. In no particular order: Mission Resist Bravado The Pass Entre Nous All for various reasons that are personal. I also have to say that Snakes and Arrows, when it came out, helped me keep my sanity when my marriage ended in the spring of 2007. It was hugely ugly because my ex is evil and made everything a fight, and S&A gave me a fresh, new 'place' to escape to and find solace in.
  3. A friend of mine bought Alex's old pink house up at Major Mac and Bayview Avenue. He met Alex for the transaction (and really low-balled him) but said he was an awesome guy. Same house.. a guy I waitered with years ago put in Alex's pool in said pink house. I've seen Neil on his bike in the GTA (hard to miss if you see him). I've been in a Rosedale catering place a few times when Ged was in picking up dinner for the family (my old gf worked there and tipped me off - never spoke to him, though).

    BIG TIME RUSH?!!

QUOTE (Akron162 @ Jul 9 2011, 06:53 PM) QUOTE (Atomic @ Jul 9 2011, 04:49 PM) QUOTE (Akron162 @ Jul 9 2011, 01:42 PM) QUOTE (Atomic @ Jul 8 2011, 12:26 PM) Don't knock 'em too hard. My daughter lovs them and actually, as pop boy bands go, they're not bad. In fact, their TV show is pretty damned funny... like a modern day Monkees. No offence, but probably your daughter is child of 8 to 13 yeras old with no musical taste at all and who also likes Hanna Montana. Thats the only kind of people who can like this kind of garbage. Sorry but its the thruth. No, it's YOUR opinion. My daughter likes Rush and often requests I put them on in the car. So you're wrong in assuming she has no taste... she has better taste in music than many adults I know. Fact is, the BTR songs are pretty catchy and my wife and I catch ourselves humming them from time to time and then laughing. They're pre-packaged pop, but they are catchy and fun to listen to. FWIW, I've been a hard-core Rush fan since 1977. So MY opinion is that BTR isn't exactly quality music, but it's catchy and fun and yeah, in a couple of years they'll be gone, like all boy bands. They're no Rush but they're better than a lot of pre-packaged crap out there. You know, im not gonna argue because i have no kids, no wife and every single boy-band song that i ever heard is a complete crap, so if you say they are at least catchy, i will give you that, but com'on, if you wanna listen something catchy, at least listen to metallica or something like it. Geez, i dont like music just for been catchy, i think it should be some art on it, not just a makin-money machine. LOL... actually, I can't stand Metallica. Never could. FWIW, BTR is brilliant marketing. Start a band of pop boys, turn it into a TV show and then have the 'band' cut albums and go on tour, while still performing on the tv show. It's brilliant. Also FWIW, the TV show is pretty funny and more entertaining than their music.

QUOTE (RobW @ Jun 26 2011, 03:40 AM) What's a shrimp cot? and something about soup. In context, (and I can't remember if it was Ged or Alex who said what, but)... I think I have some shrimp caught in my teeth. What's a shrimp cot? Is that what shrimp sleep on? LOL Also, Ged on friendship... 'sometimes we can talk or not talk for hours.' And, 'we'd talk for a bit, have some soup, talk some more, and have some more soup.'

QUOTE (HowItIs @ Jun 29 2011, 06:31 PM) QUOTE (Atomic @ Jun 29 2011, 09:32 AM) From BIB, paraphrasing here... Alex: I quit smoking, it's true. But now I have to deal with second hand smoke... you know, from my second hand (holds up his left hand, his wife dying from laughter). Also from BIB, Alex: I woke up this morning and I was the fattest person I know. My wife said I looked like a magician, spinning around trying to get my pants on. That scene is painfully funny. Charlene says "I need make-up" as she hides under the sheet and Alex, as an aside, says "You need more than that, Honey." Then she slaps him and he does his Jerry Lewis... "Oy lady, stop with the hitting!" That bit was hilarious! Also like when in BIB they come down to the main floor of the hotel for the media conference and the hostess in the hall is gushing... Her: "wow, we've been waiting for you here for so long... Alex: "oh, well we were just upstairs in our rooms." Also... in the media conference someone asks Geddy why it took so long to tour Brazil? Ged: "cuz we're idiots." Gotta love their self-deprecating humour.

  13. QUOTE (Ancient Ways @ Jun 16 2011, 08:43 PM) QUOTE (USB Connector @ Jun 16 2011, 07:51 PM) Nice find! Strambolopoulos is such a great interviewer. Rather than trying to get people to break down or confess something on TV he leads people to interesting discussions. This one is no different and it's nice to see and interview where VT and Neil's wife isn't brought up. Who exactly is George S.? I don't know him. Georgie used to be a Much Music VeeJay until he moved over to the CBC and now hosts a show interviewing world famous and significant people. He's very good at what he does and makes the show entertaining as well.
  14. QUOTE (GotRush @ Jun 16 2011, 06:11 PM) Joe and his buddies were discussing their favorite positions for love-making. All the stories were pretty common until it came time for Joe to reveal his favorite position. "I personally like the Rodeo way." His friends had never heard that term and wanted a better description. Joe explained, "See, I get the old lady down on all fours and mount her from the rear. Then, I reach down and grab her boobs and give 'em a squeeze or two." Next, I say "Boy, these feel just like your sister's...and then I try to hold on for 8 seconds." This made me LOL @ work.
  15. Why is everyone blaming Gruber for what they percieve as a change in drumming from Neil and ONLY because of Gruber? NEP is aging. Do you really think Gruber had that much of an affect on a guy who's been playing drums for maybe 40 years before visiting Gruber? I have trouble believing that. If there's a perceived change in Neil's drumming, I wouldn't put it down to being tutored by Gruber but rather a combination of aging (the body can't be thrashed for as long the way it used to), 'so why not write drum parts that are more playable for a guy my age so when I play the oldies, I can hammer it' sort of idea. And there's also musical maturity. It's not how many notes I can cram into a time signature, it's how I make those notes work. I find Neil a much more disciplined drummer now. He still kicks ass and I find when he now plays old stuff, he's throwing in fills where there never were, and it sounds freakin' great! And really, splitting hairs on whether Neil was better before Gruber or as good after is moot. He's still the same guy, still drumming and being recognized for his drumming skills and influencing muscians the world over. He's likely in the autumn of his musical career... and still rocking hard!
  16. I have the intro to Limelight played on bagpipes.
  17. Surprised no one here said specifically pick up All The World's A Stage. Phenomenal live album from the early years that gives a good smattering of all the early stuff without the need to buy all the albums. To me, that's an essential Rush album, along with 2112, Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves (my all-time fave album) and Hemispheres. Snakes and Arrows Live is also an excellent choice for their more recent stuff combined with the classics. Welcome - you've entered a whole new plane of rock music appreciation.
  18. I've been a Sloan fan for about 15 years. No surprise they're Rush fans, but then again, if you're a rock musician in Canada, how can you not be a fan - or at hold their musicianship in high regard.

    Bacon Poll

    La Bacon Strangiato for sure!
  20. Another vote for The Pass. But Caravan and BU2B are close second and third.
  21. We had a large Rush following in my high school. Of course, my school was in Willowdale, Ontario so that shouldn't come as a surprise. In my grade there were probably about 15 of us who hung out together. Alternatively, there was an equally hard-core Stones/Zepplin group and then all the new wave/pop kids too. But almost 30 years after the fact, Rush is still going strong and a few of us who still keep in touch, still love the band.
  22. QUOTE (vital signz @ May 11 2011, 10:26 AM) Where's 'Behind My Camel', the song by The Police that YYZ lost the Grammy to that year???? Good point! LOL
  23. QUOTE (The Lost Xanadu @ Jan 6 2011, 09:38 PM) A friend of mine just informed me that they said 'Room 2112' on Grey's Anatomy. Now I don't like Grey's Anatomy..but thats pretty awesome I was watching Grey's with my better half (i.e., forced to watch it) and when they said room 2112, I laughed my ass off and pointed it out... which just got a blank stare.
  24. I had a restaurant bill recently and the price was $21.12. I meant to save it to take a pic and post it here but must have tossed it.
  25. Very cool experience. Better than mine... but I hate people and big crowds so I was not happy with the venue (standing only). And yeah, Alex had an issue in the first song that took a while to fix, but the video screens went blank a number of times which you likely woudln't have noticed being so close, although the projection screen behind them frequently went black when I know it should have been on. At a venue where it's a level field, the screens are key to people's enjoyment who are further away from the band. Also.. their sound seemed to go in and out.. ie. from mid-way to the back, sometimes they would sound crystal clear, other times muffled or muted. I thought it might be the wind, but i'm not so sure. This was particuarly noticible with Alex's guitars, because everything else would sound okay. But I'm not slagging the show. I enjoyed what the boys did and I'm glad I went. But after beign a hard core fan since 1977 and having seen them 18 times, you tend to get picky.
