  1. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Apr 4 2012, 01:43 PM) i don't listen to them alot, and alot of people think the last two tunes on hyf are garbage, but they sound very good to me. love the guitar on tai shan, and high water blends nicely. How funny. I consider Tai Shan and High Water to be two of the better songs on HYF. Maybe because they don't sound like they belong on that CD. I thought HYF belonged to Neil. His drums were great. Geddy stood out on Power Windows and Alex was fantastic on P/G.
  2. They hype surrounding this release as well as it being a concept piece with longer songs is exactly what I was hoping for from Hold Your Fire. But back then, no one knew jack about what the music was going to sound like. If you were lucky, you might find a couple of references to the new CD when the guys were interviewed in magazines. Other than that, you had to call a radio station and ask the DJ's if they had any information. Too funny. Dem were the old days. Getting back to my first statement, can you imagine the unbelievable let-down I felt when I heard HYF being premiered on the King Bisquit Flower Hour? Where was my RUSH ? In 1987, I was ready for them to go back to the concept albums and move away from the synth heavy Power Windows, Signals and P/G styles. I thought then, that Neil's lyrics and political leanings were finding their way in to Rush's music a bit too much. <--- I actually appreciate those CD's a lot more now. I know many people love HYF but to me, it is their worst CD. There are so many weak songs on it. Lock & Key, Mission, Second Nature and Open Secrets are downright awful IMO. There was no edge to them and the band sounded completely lost as to their identity. I thought Time Stand Still was ok but there was Aimee Mann providing backing vocals. I mean, WTH ?!? Yeah, it was a long wait and from that point forward the subsequent releases were peppered with good songs here and there but hardly anything GREAT. The only thing that came close was Counterparts. I am keeping my expectations in check and hope at the very least, the guys indulge themselves musically. That's what they've become to me now. They lyrics aren't even secondary anymore. They are a complete afterthought and in some cases alienate me from the song entirely. --> Faithless. With that,
  3. QUOTE (danielmclark @ Apr 3 2012, 12:00 PM) QUOTE (H. P. L. @ Apr 3 2012, 10:51 AM) QUOTE (danielmclark @ Apr 3 2012, 06:32 PM) QUOTE (Storm Shadow @ Apr 3 2012, 10:28 AM) QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Apr 3 2012, 12:11 PM)here's the latest from RIAB http://www.rushisaband.com/images/201204/2250.f.jpg Trenken's gonna love all that bevel. It's a retarded cover. Just ridiculous. And I ain't buyin' it. It might have come from "a trusted source" but I refuse to believe that's the final art until I see it on Rush.com. The list of things wrong, or at least unprofessional, about it is pretty friggin' long. Actually, this could be the outer cover of a digipak cd box. Looks like a kind of prelude to the actual cover. You might be onto something there. Outer covers like that often only incorporate a few basic elements. I could absolutely see this being used that way... though I'm still not fully convinced if only because of the bevels on the symbols. It looks to me, and someone like trenken can probably weigh in, it looks like someone took the symbols from the Caravan artwork, overlaid them with a generic texture and applied a bevel. The problem with this is that putting a bevel on something creates a light source, indirectly. The reason the beveled side is lighter is because light is hitting it differently - but if the bevel isn't adjusted on a per-symbol basis, it looks like each one has its own light source. Instead of having a global source of light, it's like there's a little tiny light illuminating each symbol... which doesn't make much sense in this context. It might be a minor thing... but it's enough to make me think that this might not be official art to be used on a release. But I could be wrong. Those bevels just really bother me. You're being kind. The time is still wrong.
  4. Did anyone notice the dog took a piss on the wall hydrant ? It's puddled in front. Nice touch.
  5. I'm calling bullshit. Great effort though. 1. No Rush or CD title on the cover. Clock hands are trying to imply 9:12 pm in military time which would be 21:12. However the artist messed up and switched the hour and minute hands. With the error, it reads as 2:45. 2. Tourbook cover - Just not buying it. They wouldn't play signals in its entirety and that's what's being implied. Perhaps its meant as a message to the band. 3. Perhaps I'm full of spit and don't know what I'm talking about. 4. Quit F*cking around and release Headlong Flight. Just a little irritated.
  6. QUOTE (rummut71 @ Apr 1 2012, 04:30 PM)I believe a total of zero items like this posted on April 1st ever... http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/18205767/images/1330912219544.gif
  7. Now that's how you do it! I am absolutely stunned that only one other poster in the entire thread hinted at the possibility of an April Fools joke going on here. The OP made it believable, didn't over do it with the content and said practically nothing about the new stuff. Wow. No offense, but I don't believe a word of what was said. In fact, he/she hasn't posted in this thread again right ? Had to catch a plane ? Snippets ? They had a listening party in NY and then reps from Roadrunner visited different radio personalities with Headlong Flight. That's it.
  8. My wife hates Rush. -- It's all about Geddy's voice. The only song she can stomach is Time Stand Still. She actually likes that one. Figures. I used to be a HUGE Rush fan and by most standards I probably still am. But at least I've matured and become more objective. Their music has been very average the last 20 years. <--- Average by Rush standards.
  9. I take full blame for the font rubbish. I'm no artist. I think the picture is great though.
  10. No, not the official cover. Full Disclosure: This is artwork from a talented artist named Mike L. Robinson. I thought it had elements that fit the concept of Clockwork Angels and I added the Rush and title. It's called "The Watchman". http://candlesandghosts.com/tag/balloon/
  11. Thanks for the heads-up Druid. Refresh your page please.

  13. Its been so long since they released Caravan and BU2B, I consider it 'Old' Rush. Seriously, give us the music already. Some of us have seen you on both legs of the TM tour. How about a little sumpin sumpin for the fans.
  14. Hemispheres is, beyond a doubt, the best work they ever put out. And as much as I respect the band and their work, that is a huge compliment. The collection of songs, much like Dark Side of the Moon remain timeless. The God's of Love and Reason doing battle ? That's pretty awesome. Now we get to hear about the battle between Faith and Faithless on Clockwork Angels. Yippee Yep, all that again. Ok, I'll quit.
  15. QUOTE (eshine @ Jan 12 2012, 07:11 PM) QUOTE (anchorman @ Jan 12 2012, 06:52 PM) Geddy thinks if there's a God, that God has some explaining to do and that he sucks for what's happening in the world today. Nice. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Interesting. So, if YOU see someone is about to get hit by a car and YOU don't WARN them, its God's fault. OR If YOU see someone hungry and don't give them something to eat, it's God's fault and HE has some explaining to do. OR If YOU see someone suffering and YOU don't comfort them, it's God's fault. I happen to think that Geddy's line of thinking is irresponsible, lazy and full of shit. It seems to me that God went out of his way to give us a guidebook on how to play nice in the sandbox and its up to us to do so. Freewill and all. But hey, maybe that's too much to ask. Maybe we should expect God to intervene more often. Apparently, he's not on his game.
  16. Hey ! Let's all kick his ass. LOL, that just sounded funny. I like my own jokes. By the way, Neil's lyrics have sucked for a while now. Maybe that's why he's pissed there's no God to save himself from his pen. ** See Losing It from Signals/ Neil's becoming the writer in his song. In all seriousness, I agree 100% with the opinion that his anti-religion references have lessened my appreciation for Rush. Just as someone else mentioned about "Live" and the 180 turn they took. When you beat a subject to death, you're most likely dry or obsessed. I wish Neil would write poetry about his own personal beliefs and leave it out of the Rush stuff. Geddy seems to be on board with him and Alex is along for the ride. I remember someone asking Alex if he believed in God and he said something along the lines of.."Im not sure. I think I used to, but I don't know. No. I don't. Not a personal God. Not a man in the sky." Geddy thinks if there's a God, that God has some explaining to do and that he sucks for what's happening in the world today. Nice. I bet they give the existence of God all of 5 minutes after watching CNN or some news channel. As if our problems today are so much worse than in thousands of previous years.
  17. Power Windows doesn't belong on the list and neither does Presto. HYF belongs in a sorry class all by itself. Of all the albums for the guys to shit on (Caress of Steel being the one I remember the most) HYF is easily the most forgettable and worst. Some people love Mission. I can't stand that song. Open Letter - Ugh Second Nature - Double ugh Prime Mover, Time Stand Still, High Water and Tai-Shan are ok.
  18. I'm glad someone else brought this up. I'm really not sure how to put this in words but Neil's playing, as well as the other guys in the band used to be much more interesting. The opening of 2112 is a great example of how he used to play. He didn't seem to just be a drummer, he was much more in tune with the other guys in an in-your-face kind of way. It was more aggressive. On another note, I really don't like Geddy's flamenco style of playing the Bass. Just imagine him using that technique on Hemispheres or 2112. Not good. IMO
  19. Here's what I'm hearing - The beginning sounds a bit like Mystic Rhythms Right before the refrain "No Light, No Light" I hear part of Neil's drum solo when the harp sounds.. The drumbeat throughout sounds like the drums from High Water from HYF Those are the Rush things I hear from past CD's Going forward with how Rush would evolve and interpret this song with their own style - I think the song has a great flow to it. I can definitely hear how Geddy would be able to add a killer Bass line and Alex to have a textural, sweeping type of solo that he's done in the past (think The Pass) The song would fit nicely with what Geddy's voice can do nowadays. Not in pitch or range but in the inflection with the lyrics
  20. Here's the lyrics: No light, No light You are the hole in my head You are the space in my bed You are the silence in between what I thought And what I said You are the night time fear You are the morning When it's clear When it's over your start You're my head You're my heart No light, no light in your bright blue eyes I never knew daylight could be so violent A revelation in the light of day You can chose what stays and what fades away And I'd do anything to make you stay No light, no light No light Tell me what you want me to say Through the crowd I was, Crying out and In your place there were a thousand other faces I was disappearing in plain sight Heaven help me, I need to make it right You are the revelation, You are to get it right But, it's a conversation, I just can't have tonight You want a revelation, some kind of resolution You want a revelation No light, no light in your bright blue eyes I never knew daylight could be so violent A revelation in the light of day, You can chose what stays and what fades away And I'd do anything to make you stay No light, no light No light Tell me what you want me to say Would you leave me, If I told you what I've done? And would you leave me, If I told you what I've become? Cause it's so easy, To sing it to the crowd But it's so hard, my love, To say it to you, all alone No light, no light in your bright blue eyes I never knew daylight could be so violent A revelation in the light of day, You can chose what stays and what fades away And I'd do anything to make you stay No light, no light No light Tell me what you want me to say You want a revelation You are to get it right But, it's a conversation, I just can't have tonight You want a revelation, some kind of resolution. You want a revelation. You want a revelation, You you want to get it right. But, it's a conversation, I just can't have tonight. You want a revelation, some kind of resolution Tell me what you want me to say.
  21. Time and Motion is my favorite song off T4E. How do you not like that one ? Driven is cool too. Ok, lets do this - 1. Time and Motion (Dark, moody with elements of Hemispheres and a cool solo of sorts by Lerxst) 2. Driven 3. Totem (I like the Sweet Chariot part) 4. Carve Away the Stone (Music rocks, lyrics not so much) 5. Limbo 6. Test for Echo 7. Resist 8. Dog Years - Why all the hate ? It was a fun song 9. Half The World - Doesn't do it for me / I don't care what the other half thinks 10. Vitrtuality (Net boy, net girl...really ?) 11. The Color of Right (I'm having a hard time remembering what this even sounds like)
  22. Hi all, I recently downloaded "No Light, No Light" by Florence and The Machine. I must admit that I never heard of this group before I saw them on SNL a couple of weeks ago but they really impressed me. If you haven't heard this song yet, take a quick listen on YouTube. After hearing it, I couldn't help but think how great a Rush song this would be. The pulsating beat with a strong bass line would be awesome. The lyrics even seem to match up with Neil's style. -- Kind of a Cold Fire meets Hand Over Fist. What other songs would you like to hear Rush put their fingerprints on ? -- Modern songs. BTW, Florence and Geddy singing together might make for a nice duo.
  23. The best I've ever heard Geddy sing was at the San Antonio show of Vapor Trails. Hands down. The second best was this last show in San Antonio on Sept. 23. His voice was noticeably different beginning with GUP. It's never been the same since. But that's ok. The music is amazing even if the voice can't do what it once did.
  24. I like the music and hate the lyrics. Being Christian will do that to you. C'est la vie. Armor and Sword would have been a better choice from S&A.
