  1. I'm a fan. I like the "demo" feel of the verses, I like the progression, I like Neil's little splash cymbal "choke" before the second verse.
  2. QUOTE (TOMSAWYER @ May 24 2010, 03:18 PM) thanks guys. i do not want the setlist because i want to bitch and whine about it. im not sure where you got that idea. i just want to make sure i am there when they start the greatest album evr...MOVING PICTURES! i thought for sure someone would already have it since it is hard to keep a secret these days Do you plan to attend only part of the show?
  3. I can't see FIVE A/B alternates in any setlist. Too confusing and likely to piss off people seeing only one show. That and the shortage of S&A songs don't sit right.
  4. Wow. No love for 'Freeze'. I think it's one of the top tracks on VT. Very complex. Would love to hear it.
  5. I like to be just off center towards Al. Best angle for all 3 IMO since G's mike points toward the center and the best sight line to Neil is over his Ride Cymbal. Of course when trying to actually BUY tickets you don't have much control over what pops up.
  6. 9/18 in Virginia will be number 45. I was very fortunate to live in metro NY most of my younger life which meant that there were always multiple shows within a pretty easy drive for me. If they were playing at MSG, The Meadowlands, and Nassau Coliseum I would go to all three shows. It was a lot cheaper to go back then-a $20 bill would get you a crappy seat, a 6 pack, and gas for the drive. Most shows on a single tour-5 for Vapor Trails Hartford Camden Jones Beach MSG Mohegan Sun
  7. Just got two for Bristow thru the Music Today presale in Orch 2 row R (18th row center). I had thrown back a bunch of 101,102,103 seats and one other set of Orch 2 seats that were further back. Spending $350 instead of $140 to be a few rows closer and get a goofy t-shirt doesn't make sense to me.
  8. QUOTE (hammer.2112 @ Apr 23 2010, 10:32 AM) Will the guys use original instruments ? Well- Geddy's #1 Jazz Bass was used to record some of the songs on MP. I guess the Rick could come out again but I tend to doubt it. Alex used his old Howard Roberts Fusion last tour on "Wind Blows". You can see that guitar on the ESL videos. I could see that guitar and the ES-355 being used-as far as the old Strat/Floyd Rose/Bill Lawrence Pickup "mutts" (the white and black ones) they would be the period correct guitars to use but who knows if he even still has them?
  9. The feel of a lot of those older songs was pretty dependent on Neil's style and technique pre-Freddie Gruber. Neil went from playing in kind of a rushed (!), ahead of the beat style to more of an "in the pocket", behind the beat style and some songs just don't feel right that way. Circumstances is the best example of this-if you listen to the studio version it sounds like Al and Ged are trying to keep up with Neil who is just a freight train plowing thru the song. When they did it live recently the roles were reversed and it just wasn't right. I think there are a couple of songs that really benefit from the change in feel, though-Subdivisions and Red Barchetta feel a hell of a lot better with a pocket to them.
  10. It won't be anything on MP. They would NEVER open the show with MP in it's entirety. My money is on MP being early in the second set with the possibility of a one song buffer to get people back to their seats. It won't be CTTH or New World Man. TSOR or Freewill. I'd prefer Freewill but it's probably TSOR.
  11. I'll bet the second set opens with a non-MP song followed by TS and the rest of MP. Gotta give the stragglers time to get back to their seats.
  12. Nope. There is no turning back now. I think back to T4E (first tour with no opener) and how cool it was to have intermission/entire 2112 and I can't imagine an opening act anymore.
  13. I like going solo- It opens up chances to pick up a great single seat the day of the show You can go eat wherever you want to beforehand (I recommend stopping in Lexington, NC for Barbecue on the way to Charlotte) It frees you up to meet people in the parking lot
  14. Freeze Vapor Trail Alien Shore Heresy Presto
  15. I live in Raleigh. Moved here in 2003 from CT. I drove to Charlotte (2 hours) for R30, S&A 2007, and S&A 2008. They came to Raleigh in '07. This time I'm flying to NY for the Jones Beach Show and I plan to get tix for DC and drive up. The Charlotte shows have always been high energy/good crowds/band into it.
  16. OK, I'll play. Just say NO to One Little Victory Dreamline Roll The Bones Between The Wheels Red Sector A Anything from S&A that isn't 'Wind Blows" The answer is YES- Vapor Trail Ghost Rider Prime Mover Cut To The Chase Alien Shore A Farewell To Kings Totem The Pass Presto Distant Early Warning
  17. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Apr 8 2010, 10:58 PM) QUOTE (Del_Duio @ Apr 8 2010, 09:54 PM) QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Apr 8 2010, 09:26 PM) QUOTE (Joshua @ Apr 8 2010, 09:06 PM) Jacob's Ladder and anything off Power Windows. I suspect we'll see A Farewell To Kings (title track). Alex mentioned in an interview that it was rehearsed with intention to be included in the set back in '07. what better song for ged to bring out his rick than a farewell to kings. Hmmm.. I never thought of that but wouldn't it be cool if Geddy took out all his basses from the years past? The Rick for Farewell to Kings, the doubleneck for Xanadu, the Wal for Prime Mover.. even the little Steinberger for Kid Gloves? And yeah I guess he'd stick with the black and white Fender for the MP part i heard from somewhere that he sold his double neck. Andrew MacNaughtan has the Double Neck. I'm sure he would loan it back to G if he asked nicely
  18. Red Barchetta is the hardest song on MP to sing and he's done a great job with it the last couple of tours. G's ability to sing MP isn't a problem. I think there are other albums we crazies would rather see showcased but from a marketing perspective this is a really smart way to fill up the lawns. You have to figure that if anybody only owns ONE Rush album it is probably Moving Pictures. I was 15 when it came out and was already a big fan but that album was a MAINSTREAM HIT at that time. There will be plenty of people out on the lawn who have never seen Rush before but will treat this as a nostalgia show. I think advertising Moving Pictures also gives them some freedom with the rest of the setlist-it still leaves 2 HOURS of performance time and as long as the first timers get what they came for they can dig deep with the rest of the show.
  19. I guess I won't complain about the lack of a North Carolina show-at least they are playing on my continent. MP in it's entirety-interesting. Would have preferred PeW but it's still cool-I hope all of you Camera Eye geeks appreciate this because it's really for you. Don't accuse these guys of not listening to the fans ever again.
  20. "Whoooooooaaaa YONKERS!" Nah. Not happening. Useless trivia-I bought Moving Pictures on release day and drove to my dad's apartment IN YONKERS to listen to it for the first time.
  21. QUOTE (Earthshine @ Jan 9 2010, 10:15 PM) Only 2 times I saw Jeff was with Allan Holdsworth in 1983. Chad Wackerman was on drums. First time I saw them they opened for the Steve Morse Band right before their first album. Steve had Rod Morgenstein on drums and Jerry Peek on bass. I remember seeing Jeff watching from the sides and even square dancing during The Bash (a very fast country tune). What a night that was. All for $10.00! Those were the days. I saw that trio play in Cambridge, Mass in September 1983. It was just a big room-no stage. The audience (pretty much all Berklee Students like myself) stood in front of the 3 guys like you might at a high school dance. That show scared the piss out of me. I had been a Berlin fan for a few years based on his work with Bill Bruford's self-named band, and I knew he was good, but those 3 guys together were just silly good. Plenty of guys left that show scratching their heads.
  22. My first show was at the Palladium in NYC in May 1980 (PeW tour). I went with my high school buddy whose dad drove us in from the suburbs. We were in the very last row and the smoke rose and completely enveloped us. My buddy fell asleep about 15 minutes into the show and ended up sleeping thru Cygnus X-1, full side 1 of Hemispheres, and other gems. I managed to not pass out and got him outside to his dad's car after the show. I took my mom's car without her permission and drove from Westchester County to the Nassau Coliseum for a show on the MP tour with this crazy girl from school. We had no map. I had no driver's license. We had no tickets. We had 50 bucks between us and managed to buy 2 tickets, a bunch of beer, and pay all the tolls both ways. Definitely one of my more stupid nights, but it all worked out. I camped out overnight in the parking lot at the Meadowlands in NJ with the same friend from the first show above to buy tickets for the ESL tour. It was late fall and COLD. They handed out wristbands at 8am, and we got pretty good seats, but not nearly as good as we thought we would after being there all night. At a show at MSG on the Power Windows Tour, I was sitting directly in Geddy's sightline when he was at the keyboards facing left. He thought I was nuts screaming and jumping around, but I had him laughing a lot. He actually pointed at me a couple of times and laughed.
