  1. Some sweet shirts indeed, but is it me or do they have less variety then they had on previous tours?
  2. QUOTE (BigBob @ Sep 9 2012, 12:16 PM) QUOTE (tas7 @ Sep 6 2012, 06:41 AM) Gasp Shock,Clockwork Angels goes back up the Billboard 200 chart, up from 121 to 117.What I would like to know is how Journey's greatest shits keeps charting so well, don't you americans have enough copies? You would think.
  3. I lost interest in reading science fiction completely by the time I reached 17 years of age. So I never really had a strong desire to invest in CA the novel(curious yes) but after reading so many negative reviews, my curiosity is over and done with. I still have no problem with Neil being a co author trying his hand in fiction novel writing and the album is still amazing to me and highly enjoyable. But wonder didn't Neil once say he thought about writing a science fiction book or fictional short story essays for magazines but decided it wasn't for him?
  4. QUOTE (Torgo Satyr @ Sep 7 2012, 10:53 AM) I feel that Hugh is part of the band. The band has changed producers to change with their musical needs/desires, but I feel Hugh has enough chameleon-like ability (like Lerxst!!!) to keep his job secure. In fact, after watching "Beyond The Lighted Stage"... one of the things that made me an even bigger Rush fan (if that's possible) is the fact that they are so loyal to their people. Ray, Howard, Andrew (RIP), Hugh... just to name a few. In a "what have you done for me lately" world... I find it refreshing and touching that my musical heroes are also loyal to their people. It is a noble gesture... so, I say keep Hugh around. Agree, but I still was disappointed with last couple of album covers. Want to say. , although didn't care for the front cover of S&A really liked the back with the folding hands snake and arrow. Should of been made the front.
  5. I admit haven't been overly thrilled with last two studio album covers. S&A was just to busy and the colors not vivid enough, And CA I was hoping before the release what we saw was just a single or album test cover. Find it hohum and predictable. But the inner artwork is great and perfect fit to go along with the storyline.
  6. They all look like happy campers to me... What sincere smiles!! http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b216/spirit3trails/264f.jpg
  7. QUOTE (Mr. IsNot @ Sep 5 2012, 12:28 PM) They must have been on cocaine that night. The Runaways probably were,as many problems they had within there own group.
  8. Here's some more fuel for the fire.. I don't believe Rush were always saintly, they were young I'm sure they could be a- holes at times. Weren't we all in our youth? I don't know how much I believe on this but still think there might of been some incident happened. Cherie Currie sounds a bit bitter and jealous about success don't you think? Washed up hasbeen...
  9. I have it, framed in my downstairs wreckroom. but not in as good as shape. Use to put my posters up with tape corners all torn. Have a Hemispheres/Permanent Waves poster also, red background with Alex in a Napoleon stance Neil wearing a badge old timey bicycle on it with the #6 in the spokes.(think it was a reference to a British tv show at the time.) and Geddy wearing a brown leather jacket sporting what looks to be a Casio digital watch.
  10. Committed fan here, Neil's side endeavors to expand on His writing of ClockWork Angels doesn't bother me in the least. The orchestration is part of the album so i can't really understand why this would upset the dedicated fan when seeing them on tour. It's a great album and I'm actually looking forward to see and hear the strings accompaniment for CA along with other favorites should be a unique experience.
  11. I could careless what the haters think what Rush is allowed or suppose to do. Broadway, orchestra it's all different and a great adventure, I say go for it I'm in it for the ride!!
  12. 90% of Kiss songs are campy & silly and when they attempted to show they had depth it made matters worse one of many examples: "I think I'm going blind" - I'm 93 you're sixteen.. talk about wanting to So besides the few curve balls or odd attempts to branch out, Party anthem rock is there specialty, ya know sex, drugs, rock and roll Spinal Tap forte. This is there genre music to pump fist and have fun with Never expect Kiss to put out thought provoking meaningful tunes ( Music from the Elder to late in the attempt for them to make a concept piece.) Same can be said for AC/DC lyrics "Let me cut your cake with my knife" yikes that's terrible.... I like Great Expectations with the choir and strings they were experimenting and yeah the lyrics can make you cringe, still I really enjoy the music aspect of that song.
  13. QUOTE (ReGorLaTroy @ Aug 24 2012, 07:18 AM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ Aug 23 2012, 10:36 PM) people REALLY like great expectations? QUOTE You're sittin' in your seat And then you stand and clutch your breast Our music drives you wild along with the rest You watch me singing this song You see what my mouth can do And you wish you were the one I was doing it to And you watch me playin' guitar And you feel what my fingers can do And you wish you were the one I was doing it to Well, listen You've got great expectations You've got great expectations You're dying to be seen And you wave and call my name But in the day it seems that I'm a million miles away You watch me beatin' my drum And you know what my hands can do And you wish you were the one I was doing it to Well, listen You've got great expectations You've got great expectations You've got great expectations Then you feels these eyes from the stage And you see me staring at you And you hear between the lines, my voice is calling to you Well, listen You've got great expectations You've got great expectations You've got great expectations, do you want to play the role You've got great expectations, you'd even sell me your soul You've got great expectations You've got great expectations You've got great expectations, do you want to play the role You've got great expectations, you'd even sell me your soul You've got great expectations, as long as you can play the role You've got great expectations all that with a choir so people still like this song? is that your final answer? I'd have to answer "yes" as my final answer. Hey, people are different with different like and dislikes. There are people here who really think that "Dog Years" is a great song. In a dog's life A year is really more like seven And all too soon a canine Will be chasing cars in doggie heaven Yep, I like it also, it's KISS how "great" do you expect the lyrics to be? Sure I like Dog Years too, Neil's courageous effort to write a song under the effects of a bad hangover really shine through ... under those conditions.
  14. QUOTE (burgeranacoke @ Aug 2 2012, 11:35 PM) The Clash had quite a broad pallete. The Clash used many styles in their songs, such as rockabilly, ska and jazz. They also managed to managed to create their own sound style. Joe Strummer's simple guitar playing and distinct voice juxtaposed with Topper Headon's brilliant drumming helped to generate a uniqueness that wasn't found in other bands of the day. They also managed to evolve and stay significant without jumping on the new wave bandwagon. The first record was pretty had pretty much as straight ahead punk sound. Loud guitars, simple arrangements. There were notable exceptions like the reggae based White Man in Hammesmith Palais and Police & Thieves, but it was pretty much a punk affair. Lyrically, there was a lot of politics and commentary on social conditions in the U.K. The second record was a bit more refined lyrically and musically. You could hear more of the kind of sound that you'd hear on London Calling. Still very punk-ish. London Calling took it to an entirely new level. Lyrics were more mature and wide ranging. From the post-apocalypticism of London Calling to the Spanish Civil War to the western themed Card Cheat. They showed themselves to be adept and an almost dizzying variety of musical styles. Paul Simonon, in particular really came into his own as a bass player on that record. Sandinista, a sprawling 3 record release had flashes of the greatness of London Calling, but a lack of insight into editing the record down to just the best material hampered the release. Still some great material on that record. The group also fought to keep the price of their albums affordable. London Calling was originally sold as a double disc for the price of a single. Sandinista was also similarly discounted. On The Jam, I only heard few of there songs mostly on those early day MTV programs pre 120 minutes alternate/collage band showcase came on around one in the morning. I did like what i heard, would they been considered part of The Mod revival in England at the time?
  15. The cover looks like a bargain bin import greatest hits cd. Is Monster energy drink sponsoring the tour, album title looks similar to drink logo.
  16. When The Clash first came out, I didn't get or appreciate all the fascination Rolling Stone and other rock magazines raved about them. I was just into Rush & Yes prog concept rock. Clash and the like, completely on the other end of the spectrum. As i got older and get "The working class activist kind of song writing" Goob.. I like the music of Woody Guthrie and Springsteen all branches from the same tree. I rediscovered how really good The Clash were years after the band no longer exist. Strong working ethic Clash known putting on marathon shows they would frequently change there set list at the spur of the moment, beckon back to rock shows of early days. Agree with ReRushed London Calling awesome album. Funny, Mick Jones was asked what he thought about The Alarm at one time and said There like the foil covering a chocolate bar all shiny but not the real thing. Mike Peters of The Alarm was when he heard this because The Clash was a band they looked up to.
  17. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jul 28 2012, 07:07 PM) This to me is a competition between "some English band I've heard of that I know a lot of people used to be into back in the 70's or 80's or something" vs. "that seemingly overrated group that did the Casbah song with the armadillo in the video and the Should I Stay Or Should I Go song ." Next I suggest a The Alarm v Madness poll (aka the "another English or maybe Irish group that a lot of people used to make a big deal about" vs. "that group that made that wacky One Step Beyond song/video and wore goofy 50's hats" poll). I vote for The Alarm were a big deal at that moment and made some truly great music from WALES btw damn it!!! Liked the Monty Python type ska band Madness also ... "One Step Beyond....!"
  18. The latest and greatest. Fine if someone thinks this way, it's all individual taste. You can get tired of doing the learning to like game most had to do with Rush albums in the last ten years or more. Clockwork Angels was immediate gratification.
  19. This is just a soundtrack for the Clockwork Angels book and movie. The songs stand out individually on there own quite well, which I believe Geddy stated what they wanted to do in the first place. In a way I'm glad they did this "concept" in a more modern approach, might of been a bit tacky and embarrassing if it was in the manner of a 1970's prog story telling album. Love that stuff dearly i do often visit Fountain Of Lamenth, 2112, Spheres, Yes Close To The Edge , Relayer, numerous Pink Floyd albums.. Understanding you can't or shouldn't return to that formula. Or else you become a stereotype and a bad parody mocking your former self. Gee hope i just didn't surround myself with myself on this one...
  20. QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 16 2012, 09:00 PM) Maybe better than RTB, No maybe's about it... Wayyyy better then RTB by a long shot. I'm not sure yet as a top ten ranking for all time Rush albums. But it's still the best they done on a consistent song for song basis since CounterParts. And I think CA is by far, better then CP

I love it for what it is, a little musical narrative inbetween songs. Weird some people on here act like they never heard of such thing.(Pink Floyd-Roger Waters era, Lou Reed I know that makes some people cringe but he does this often.) I do understand and agree with goober, GR about the placement is awkward, but perhaps Owen Hardy is" A manic depressive he walks in the rain" And like Neil explained in the CA fan pack magazine about the lyrics to headlong flight, If your a depressed person even day can be dark.
  22. QUOTE (RUDT @ Jul 14 2012, 08:03 AM) i want to hang out with the band a Monday for the Meyers dark rhum And that's enough for me for the rest of the week. I can understand why the band doesn't do back to back show anymore... I can't believe they can do that kind of drinking on tour. I'm sure they don't chug down a bottle each.
  23. QUOTE (drgrendel @ Jul 13 2012, 01:11 PM) QUOTE (launchpad67a @ Jul 12 2012, 10:57 PM) Has it ever occurred to anyone that it might not be the fault of the producer or engineer for whatever you feel is wrong with this record? Could it be the band? Nah, no way. What could possibly be wrong with layering 30 guitar tracks per song, with bass, drums, synths, effects and vocals? That's gotta sound great, all those guitar tracks competing for space with all the other single tracked instruments...right? No, not right. The "producer" obviously has a major input on the direction, sound and structure of the songs, but he doesn't have the final say. Ultimately the band determines how much content each song gets, i.e; number of tracks. The "engineer" only records and (sometimes) mixes what the band plays. If Alex wants 30 guitar tracks, the engineer records them, period. They may not use all those tracks, but that's up to the producer, then the band. I guess what I'm saying is, this record is thick with tracks. There is a shit load of sound competing for space. When you have all those layers, things get noisy. I feel this record has so much guitar on it, it covers up everything. This is not necessarily the fault of the producer or engineer. If the band wants all those layers, they get it. It must be tough recording a orchestra for classical music cd..
  24. I hope they come out with a Clock Work Angels mvi like they did with S&A. Really enjoyed 5.1 surround mix and the advanced stereo resolution was outstanding also.... Of course the audiophiles will say I'm wrong and it sucked!
