  1. QUOTE (Rushian King @ Mar 31 2011, 08:37 PM) QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Mar 31 2011, 05:18 PM) I'd love to see Birth Of A Nation (in its entirety) as well, but it has become such a taboo film that we may never see it again on TV. Same goes for Disney's Song Of The South. Such important works, but the film companies are too scared to release them.... Never see it again on TV? But TCM IS showing it, presumably in it's entirety since that's what they do. Given the notoriety they might have a bit of discussion pre/post screening with regards to it's more questionable aspects. I believe Disney holds back any screenings of SOTS. I use to have Birth Of A Nation on Video tape but it was a cheap copy and tape chewed up in VCR. Recently streamed it from netflix onto my blu ray have yet to find time to watch it again since believe it's around three hours long, but i will. Yeah it really does make you cringe at the distasteful blatant racism however the battle scenes are absolutely incredible the shear size and effort put in to duplicate when cinema was still a new "art" form. Another great silent movie Civil War themed "The General" starring Buster Keaton. On Song Of The South, I was told years ago that Bill Cosby bought all the rights for this film for it would never be seen in the United States. Don't know how much truth is behind that, just know Disney has yet to release it. But there's many 'converted' and over seas copies available online i see...

C-122 mins, TV-G, Letterbox Format I have most of these films on vhs and dvd, and many more, Glory should of been on there, still my all time favorite, starring Denzel Washington and Mathew Broderick.. others: Red Badge Of Courage original 1951 starring Audie Murphy remake pretty good also, 1974 starring Richard Thomas(John Boy Walton) The Horse Soldiers 1959 starring John Wayne and William Holden not historically accurate but still a robust typical Wayne flick Some other more recent years obscure films centered on the War Between The States I found to be above average to very good, Oldest Living Confederate Widow 1994 starring Diane Lane, Donald Sutherland and Cicely Tyson Pharaoh's Army 1995 starring Kris Kristofferson, Patricia Clarkson Andersonville 1996 a surprisingly well done tv mini series epic on the infamous brutal prison camp starring William Macy Ride With The Devil 1999 starring Toby Maguire and singer actress Jewel... I guess since this is the FIRST year of the 150th anniversary TCM will probably get around to these and others!
  3. I think the name of the show you were talking about was called Extreme Paranormal lasted a few episodes. I liked it thought it was different and fun to watch. Remember the show in the jail and guy with the chain saw, not sure that was at the Ohio(Mansfield) reformatory. Might of been, all the other ghost investigation groups had episodes from there(Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters.) One episode thought was nuts on Extreme Paranormal, guy buried alive with microphone and night vision camera old New Orleans? unmarked grave site. Crazy sh*t heard! Went on a ghost tour Gettysburg me and my wife Old lady our guide about fifty of us in a group walked along Baltimore street, just stopped in front of sites didn't actually go in them (Jenny Wade house, only civilian killed during battle) Couldn't hear what she was saying because there was another competing ghost tour across the street and gentleman giving that tour was louder drowning out what our guide was saying! And to top things off and talk about drowning (almost,) unbelievable rain storm hit half way through the tour a massive downpour, high winds thunder, lightning. Old Lady guide told us to get under trees, heard people in our group mumble this is nice it's lightning and were huddled under trees! Well she decided to cancel the rest of tour but still held her hand out for tips! And the real scary part was just trying to go back to our cars, Baltimore street became a river rapid with all of us forming chains holding on to each other wading as fast as we could to the sanctuary of escape to our automobiles cussing and damning all the way! No refunds either, out $50.00 bucks!!
  4. Crude oil prices would rise considerably. Make it a Rush wooden crate box set, rope handles on the sides!
  5. QUOTE (Syrinx @ Mar 30 2011, 11:56 AM) I don't know. Yes they are playing other cities but if this is to reach fans that didn't see them the first time around, how come ticket sales are lagging? I think that Rush fans will travel more so than fans of some other bands. I sense a growing sense of disinterest amongst many long time fans. There is no reason not to change up the set list at least a little. They have such an extensive catalog to draw from. A different set would probably get me to make the trip from Toronto to Hamilton. And I am very happy for all of you who are seeing them for the first or second time. They put on a heck of a show. I guess like HigherWater, I am just another jaded older fan. Guess it's hit or miss, Cleveland show seems to have sold real well, but other venues haven't. In 2002 Vapor Trails tour at the "Q" called back then the Gund arena reported 7 to 8'000 plus (me & my wife and some friends included ) holds around 18'000. Still think if "free" radio would indulge in playing Rush with wide range of songs from various time range 70's up to some current good stuff would get more people outside our hardcore circle interested in seeing them. Think it is a factor, were force fed Metallica and AC/DC around the clock they consistently fill stadiums and arenas, Radio plays, means goood must go see them..( spoken in a zombie tone)
  6. Back in the dark ages before pc's and other outlets of instant information, this wasn't even considered a problem. Rush in the past extended "same tours" and "same set list". And like someone i read posted they continue TM tour to other places (CLEVELAND ) For fans who didn't get a chance to travel elsewhere to see them last year, that's nothing Earth shattering like i said it's been done many times before. Just in this modern age we can find out an over saturation of information and yeah some do get spoiled because of it and constantly expect more and different! Let the rest of us experience what you did already before complaining, OK???
  7. What if some fans didn't see The Time Machine tour last year???? There's plenty of us who haven't, and I don't know or want to know the setlist!! It's new to me.... Hello, Cleveland!!!
  8. QUOTE (zogoto @ Mar 18 2011, 01:00 PM) Rush know how to bring the sausage It's Cleveland, better bring the pierogies and sauerkraut to go along with it ! Can't think of anything clever myself, all i can come up with is.. The Time Machine arrives... The focus is sharp on Cleveland!!!!
  9. Big fan of the "overrated" Beatles and U2 (at least most of there catalog )first three albums- Boy, October, War to late 80's Joshua Tree and sporadically after,Actung Baby some of Zooropa, All That you can't Leave Behind last album i bought and liked. I must of been fooled thought they carried heart felt meaning and emotion..... but realize now they suck and are overrated... The Beatles???? really???
  10. QUOTE (hughes&kettner @ Mar 1 2011, 11:21 PM) just in case of any issues while recording the friday show, why not stay and do an encore presentation saturday in my home town? cancel what ever else may be booked at the Q! a guy can dream, right?!?! I would be happy if April 15th concert comes close to selling out first.
  11. I believe there investigations are legit, many episodes have come up empty in finding any paranormal activity. Last few seasons this has been more often and makes for tv. I like Ghost Lab & Paranormal State but The Haunted on Animal Planet is my current favorite.
  12. SlingBlade or is that considered to popular? All i know it's one of my favorites.
  13. At work on afternoon shift.. none, only can pick up local radio station WRQK in Canton it's round the clock AC/DC- Metallica (and the same songs by both of them over and over and over again)
  14. QUOTE (Mara @ Feb 9 2011, 11:54 AM) And I have a particular hatred for Guy Fieri. His show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" featured our local treasure, The Marietta Diner, a couple of years ago, and now you can forget anything less than an hour wait on weekends. Thanks, you bleached, bloated, blustering bastard. I'm a big fan of Triple D, Guy has had numerous episodes on Cleveland,. Yeah like Melts in Lakewood had a two hour wait said forget it. But it always been that way even before Triple D came there. ... Anthony Bourdain of No Reservations Travel Channel not a fan of the Food Network, hates it with a passion!!!
  15. QUOTE (Lost In Xanadu @ Feb 14 2011, 11:22 AM) Yeah, the streaming catalog is pretty thin, but It's nice to catch up on some old TV shows It sure is thin & outdated for the most part, and dvd "new" releases tend to lag behind other sources to get them, like pay per view. However do enjoy digging deep in there archives find stuff haven't seen in years. btw just read a article netflix stated that there direct streaming is now outselling the dvd rental service. They recently raised rates hope that goes along with getting new releases sooner...
  16. People trying to read to much into it like" The Trees" Bacchus= Roman god of wine, just goes along with the story and Middle Earthy feel that Neil was influenced by at the time..... Another glass of wine, means.... Another glass of wine.
  17. To be honest, I'm not sure where I stand with PT. Purchased my first PT cd last year jumped right in with the latest "The Incident" there's moments on there that I truly love, then some that start to put me and the Pink Floyd influence sounds like more of a Floyd "riff" off. But overall is worth multiple plays to absorb, and it's peaked my interest to invest deeper in there catalog.(When I'm in the depressed mood)
  18. First, don't think this has anything to do with Time Machine Tour! Always liked Austin City Limits eccentric blend of performers, use to be all country now it veers off in many directions. Sure Rush would be cool to see on there, doubt it would ever happen. Btw seen Cheap Trick on Conan other night little rough but still rocked... (What happen to Bun E Carlos on drums?? , some younger guy taken his place?)
  19. I can understand the certain lack of enthusiasm for yet another live dvd recording, but being on my home turf this is a very special occasion and that alone makes it exciting. But I do hope they would make this dvd/cd collection different in the "extra's" department perhaps with some" official" bootlegs of those early Cleveland Agora recordings from WMMS coffee break concert series.Or maybe with some from Moving Pictures tour Richfield May 7th and 8th 1981 (I was there second nite on B-day! ) To go along with theme of Time Machine .. if there is any???
  20. Ya know, I also believe something happened, checking Rush & Van Halen tour dates with the Creem article i posted, the time of events mesh with what Roth said in the article... The beer being poured in the tape recorder hotel bar Leicester England, Rush played Demontfort Hall Leicester,England June 21 1980, Van Halen played Manchester Apollo theater June 20th 1980 and Birmingham Odeon June 22 1980, Rush played the Odeon Birmingham June 20th 1980. Forgive me I don't know offhand how close these cities are in relation to the incident, but it looks like Halen and Rush very well could of crossed paths during Rush Permanent Waves tour and Van Halen's Women and Children first tour in the UK 1980. The Las Vegas incident was even more telling, Both Rush and Van Halen played the Aladdin theater: 1981 Rush Moving Pictures tour June 15th, next day Van Halen June 16th Fair Warning tour. btw The Aladdin is now the Hard Rock cafe casino.
  21. Why would Geddy go back stage to see VH if there was bad blood and get kicked out? Why would Geddy go to the show period and in Los Angeles?. I thought that was odd also, curious i went back in storage and found the article... my memory was not entirely accurate on several counts!!! For starters it was CREEM magazine not Circus..... Here's verbatim of the Roth interview as pertains to Geddy& Rush: CREEM magazine October 1981 VAN HALEN GETS EVEN WITH EVERYONE! by J.Kordosh David Lee Roth: Do you want to tell a Rush story? Alex Van Halen: It's our turn! David Lee Roth: OK,guys, I hope you read this issue! - True Stuff, July 4,1981 "We gonna go back in time now-back a year's time to Leicester,England. You're gonna have to look that up; it's spelled with an'ie' or something. We'd just finished playing:great show, everybody's very up it was Michael's(bassist Anthony) birthday. And we'd come back to the bar and Rush was staying at the same hotel. And as it turns out later-they'd rented the bar with all the booze in it.And our guys didn't know that and they came in and said,'What, free booze?! Whoa!!' And they cleaned the place out, which put their guys on edge a little bit. And Edward was sitting at the table with Geddy Lee and they'd both been drinking a little bit, and Geddy was playing some Rush tapes on a tape recorder. He said something to Ed and Ed's beer got into the tape recorder, Roth laughed, obviously relishing his role as gossip monger. "Well that caused a little friction," he continued. Jump ahead one year-Las Vegas( not L.A. )1981. Rush is playing before Van Halen in Las Vegas and word goes out: nobody from Van Halen is allowed into the show at all.Nobody. No road crew, nobody. " Is it true? I interrupted". "Just because he spilled his beer.?" Roth considered the question."Well, the whole beer went went into the tape recorder," he and Van Halen laughed. "Yeah, but how much could it've cost??" " Well , the glass, too!" he roared. OK, I get it. "Anyways: 1981. The word goes out that nobody remotely associated with Van Halen is allowed into the show.As it turns out, a lot of our truckers- we've got five or six trucks, gotta have people to driv'em they know other truckers and they know the guys in Rush. And they say, 'Hey c'mon over, have a beer and a buzz, you're welcome at our show anytime, and so on. And so late word goes out: some Van Halen people-some- will be allowed into the show. And they've got some great guys working for them.So the show goes on and everything" We jump ahead now. After the show, we're sitting in this casino. There's tables filled with Van Halen people- there's 47 or 50 of us on the road now. And Geddy feels one way or another and comes up to say something to Ed, and he puts up his hand to shake hands. Now one of our security guards didn't have the vaguest idea in hell who he was and he came up and bodytackled him. Ha,ha, ha. Threw him out of the table and that's the last I saw of 'em!" He ended with a good- natured laugh.
  22. QUOTE (snowdogged @ Dec 24 2010, 08:10 PM) There was a magazine out in the mid eighties that had an interview with Geddy Lee in it. Geddy was asked about Rush getting into a fight with Van Halen. Geddy said that Rush was staying at some hotel and had rented the bar out there and Van Halen showed up at the hotel and started drinking in the bar with them. The guys from Rush brought a radio into the bar to listen to music and Eddie spilled his drink on it and fried the radio. All the guy's from Van Halen acted like it was a big joke and the guys from Rush were highly insulted that Eddie thought it was a big joke and did not apologize. They got into an argument and eventually had Van Halen kicked out of the bar. Should of read all the post first, that's the gist of the Circus magazine interview!!.... Sorry!!!
  23. I posted long ago a interview with David Lee Roth in Circus magazine talking about both Rush and Van Halen were playing London England,Rush and there crew had a hotel bar, just reserved for them. Well the Van Halen entourage so happen to stumble into the bar unaware it was a private affair. Roth mentioned both Lee and Eddie were extremely drunk. Geddy played a cassette tape of there yet to be released album and Eddie proceeded to "spill" a entire bottle of beer on cassette player. Setting off a series of altercations Van Halen and crew being kicked out of the bar, Then year later Geddy visited Halen when they were on tour back stage in Los Angeles concert, security threw Geddy out and Roth said they broke his nose.
