  1. I love this song. I've been saying for a while that I want In the End played at my funeral during the recessional. The live version from All the World's a Stage. It'd be totally unexpected...particularly when the first part is rather melodic, quiet and poignant sounding in tone, and then the pause and it comes in hard and oh so good. I think it'd lighten the mood a little and send everyone along on a higher note. Particularly with the applause and "THANK YOU VERY MUCH!" Not that I plan on having one soon. A funeral that is. Still...it's good to have plans.
  2. Oh no...this is so sad! I was recently wondering how Lorraine was doing,I knew she was ill but it'd been a while since I checked in here. I always enjoyed the interactions we had. She was a very nice person. Rest in Peace, Sweet lady. :rose:
  3. The entire lyrics to Natural Science but especially the last part... Wave after wave will flow with the tide and bury the world as it does tide after tide will flow and recede leaving life to go on as it was *Sigh* ...Sublime
  4. The problem I have with the lyrics on the last couple records, and it's a problem I've mentioned before, is the shoehorning of the lyrics into the music...like it used to be that when crafting a song, the lyrics fit seamlessly into the music. The tempo was correct for both in a way that was smooth and attractive. But the last couple of albums there was very little effort to fit the lyrics with the music, or the length of a sentence into the time frame of the alotted melodic bit (See Armor and Sword, The larger Bowl,The Anarchist, Seven Cities, etc) The result is an awkward blend of run-on sentences, ill-fitting lyrics (not in terms of content/meaning but clunky and awkward). That combined with the lower pitch to Geddy's tone (the funeral dirge, as I like to call it) just made both S & A and CA not as good for me. Not as well crafted as their earlier albums. Dont get me wrong, there are some excellent musical bits (the Anarchist is well nigh perfect musically, it's just when the lyrics come in that they lose me), it's just with some of the lyrics and lyrical bits and the way they fit, that I take exception to.
  5. Happy Birthday, Cub! It's a good day to be celebrating a birth. :ebert:
  6. Happy Birthday to someone who knows a good day to born when they see it! ;)
  7. Thanks everyone for the sweet birthday wishes! 'Twas a good day. ;) (btw, Tony...I may be old, but you'll always be older :poke: )
  8. An old-y but a goody...from 10 years ago ;) From one mildly pissed off and moody cancerian to another... Happy Birthday Tony! http://www.thegreatzo.com/xpmb/html/emoticons/poke2.gif
  9. that comes second for me... or TSS Well, if we're talking seconds...Distant Early Warning or Dreamline for me. Are you back for good? I don't know...I wander in, I wander out. I'm gone for a few months then I'm back for a spell. There's no set formula. Maybe I was stranded on an island for a while without internet! I mean, not that I was, but I could've been...there's no telling!! It's because you're traveling around in a flying saucer! Well, yeah... It's the only way to fly. But it does tend to mess with the time/space continuum. It's nice to be back though. ;)

  11. mmm going for the deep cuts there I think Vital Signs is underappreciated. It's actually one of my favorites off Moving Pictures.

  13. Grace Under Pressure tour, white w/ album cover
  14. Missouri, specifically the St. Louis area...seriously, I lived there for 6 years. Everything from completely clueless driving, no signals, bully merging (w/ no signals or looking), speeding and just generally not giving a shit who else is on the road w/ them... Just the worst. Instead of the Show me state, I started calling them the Me First state. Because thats' pretty much how they drive all the time.
  15. The best song (from this group), one that embodies the greatness of Rush, their classic sound...is The Spirit of Radio. You could pick something else... I mean, you'd be wrong, but still, I'm not going to stop you, if you want to pick something else. ;)
  16. I'll go on record and second Nobody's Hero. Despite the "cringeworthy" first line. and really, if you take that out as a first line and either eliminate it all together or simply push it back to later in the lyrics would it really bother people as much? Would not making it the opening line make it less cringeworthy? Anyway, I digress. I think it's a beautiful, heartbreakingly sad song about not realizing the impact a person makes in the world or in a person's world until they are gone. I love the lyrics, they are poignantly true. I love the acoustic guitar accompaniment. It's simple yet well done. What can I say, it's one of my favorite Rush songs as well. Go figure. Here Again...another unsung favorite...I just love the tempo, the way it's sung, the overall sound. Natural Science...another sublime sounding and crafted masterpiece. Ultimately this is my favorite Rush song. The lyrics alone qualify it for mastery, but add in the music and it's unsurpassed. Gorgeous.
  17. La Villa Strangiato is a sublimely crafted piece of timeless musical artistry. As instrumentals go, there is no match. YYZ was a well crafted fun instrumental...still is in studio form. Loved it until (UNTIL!!) people started singing to it in any and every live version from Rio on. That whoawhoawhoa whoawhoawhoawhoa...SHUT THE f**k UP, PEOPLE!! IT'S A GODDAMN INSTUMENTAL!! And yes, I'm still mad about that.
  18. You didn't have 'cassette tape' as an available choice. So I pick 'E'- Cassette Tape and CD (I have a soft spot for this album, it came along at a good time in college and I listened to it all the time on my walkman. The subsequent tour was awesome, and was the first time i learned that yes, going to multiple concerts during the same tour is indeed permissable.)
  19. Happy belated Birthday to a person who knows a good day to be born when she sees one. :)
  20. Thank you, everyone! It was a good day. :dweez:
  21. Inspirational in the whole 'we're all getting older and in this together' kind of way. Yes, I get it. ;)
  22. Nights in White Satin (I know, I know...it's their most popular one but its a nostalgia thing w/ me...reminds me of certain times and certain feelings) Stevie Ray Vaughan
