I'm one of the rare Rush fans that doesnt see Side 1 as an absolute masterpiece. It's got the 2nd half of Overture, Syrinx, Presentation, and Oracle. The rest is a no for me. Too many dull and unappealing parts for me to enjoy the epic in it's entirety. I dont have a problem with the story. Bangkok is hands down the best from this album, and Something For Nothing isnt far behind. Lessons is just straight up boring, and the other 2 are just good. Production quality is so much better than Caress, and the mixing is on point. a light 7/10, B+

Bastille is a clear standout from Rush's 70s era. Lamneth and Necromancer have their dull parts but the guitar work is no joke on either. Lakeside flows nicely on the album, and the lyrics are nice. And then theres.. the other one. Guess Al wasnt feeling creative enough that day so he had to steal that hot riff from In The Mood (can bands copyright claim themselves?) Production is pretty bad I feel, and also not too crazy about Ged's vocals on these. 6.9/10, B+

Clockwork CD is my favorite for no reason I can think of at the moment S&A's art feels uninspired

the overture? maybe... TAKE THAT BACK, YOU HEATHEN 2112 Overture is a gift to rock guitarists and drummers everywhere... best soundcheck tune EVER. It's a gift to all of humanity. For RUSH so loved the world, they gave their greatest epic... It's ironic this is in the thread about overrated Rush songs... Ironic or appropriate? Lorraine came in here saying 2112 was overrated, and everyone else came in losing their shit about how amazing they think it is. Super ironic.

ATTENTION: Time To See Which Rush Songs Are The Best (Closes 8/2/20)

I can get Limelight and Xanadu as the top 2 but after that, I'm so torn on what to choose next. Theres no way I can rank songs like this, im surprised this many people have been able to thus far. -

I swear you gotta be on drugs to enjoy that intro to Overture. I never understood how people liked that.

The clash of unpopular songs: Tai Shan or Red Lenses?
ST3V replied to Texas King's topic in Feedback
Tai Shan's music is beautiful Red Lenses is just annoying all around -
Actually, no. For example, 2112 and Hemispheres are very long songs, but they also have lots of subsongs. Xanadu and Jacob's Ladder are lengthy tunes, but they aren't separated into parts. An epic doesnt have to be in parts. I feel a song is an epic as long as it hits 2 of these 3 requirements -About 10 minutes long -Lyrics follow some type of story/progression -Split into multiple parts Xanadu hits 2 of those, making it an epic

The 3 most voted for from all 3 albums after Y2K. The Anarchist wins this one for me, clearly. Earthshine is a standout from VT, and Headlong Flight is pretty good but The Anarchist screams "Rush" so much more.
-
You know you only had to choose 3..
-
Well, you still can because this poll does not have all the epics, as it excludes By-Tor, Nat Sci, and La Villa

I always saw BtW as overrated. Its a nice closer, but I'm not all that crazy about as most are. -
Rush: Albums Elimination - Round 16 (Closes 7/25/20)
ST3V replied to _hi_water._'s topic in Feedback
lots of synth posers here lol I must be of the minority that legitimately loves the Synth albums more than the 70s stuff.. -
Substantially better than the debut. The title track is the obvious gem off this one, a timeless classic. By-Tor, the 1st Rush epic, is the great song that really introduced the Prog community to these guys. In The End is an underrated closer, and Anthem sets the mood very well. And then theres... Rivendell (that was hard to type). I think theres enough said about that one... And the rest are average, although BBB is a little irritating sometimes to me. A- 7.5/10

It seemed some people didnt like the idea that I limited the responses to only 1 choice per album so I figured I'll let us choose as a free-for-all from all 3 albums.

PeW or not, the 80s prevails for me. Moving Pictures is my favorite Rush album. So thats a good start. and PoW and HYF are both probably in my Top 5. Presto is the weakest from the 80's, and even that album really only has 1 bad song (with a lot of average ones though). Between the 4 Synth albums, there are really only 2 songs that I would even think of disliking.

As you wish, hi_water, the Necroposter

Take A Friend is an abomination. Other than that, a group of average songs thrown in with the great Here Again, Before and After, and Working Man make this album a classic. Dull moments, boring moments, but Alex's tone is BA (he knew what he was doing, putting such a sexy riff on In The Mood) B+ 6.5/10

Both of these albums are very similar in terms of how much I like them (In fact they're right next to each other on my album list). Both have a couple absolute bangers, both have a good amount of average songs and both have at least 1 song I dont really care for. It comes down (mainly) to production value for me. RTB just barely beats out Presto. Mr Hine obviously learned from Presto and improved himself

Heresy is amazing! Speed of Love ironically doesnt have much speed, but is still not bad, and Dog Years depends on my mood.
