  1. I'll pop down the road and ask Martin if he's heard anything. He comes from King's Heath in Birmingham - I've no idea where he lives these days but I like to think he's there still somewhere. You should have heard JTull (with Martin) at the Mosley Folk Festival a decade or so ago. Blew all the folkies eardrums out with the volume!! I Ian did it on purpose to show he's his own man, or something.
  2. Personally, I think it kicks into gear from track 3 or maybe 4 onwards (depending on my mood for the title track) until track 9, pauses for breath on the next 2 and then you get the Garden. The Wreckers is definitely up there for me in that middle set of tracks. Wreckers does indeed have a great chorus. I tend towards Headlong flight amongst all these due to the riffing and tempo change but I think there's not much in it. I think the Wreckers is/would be a good open mic tune. Caravan, BU2B and Wish you Well are ok too but don't shine for me like the others.
  3. Was Pineda the Youtuber? I remember hearing a new song (at the time) fronted by a guy who sounded the spitting image of Steve Perry and I thought the song and he were pretty damn good. Didn't listen to much beyond that but it's on my list (like all the other stuff I seemed to have missed!).
  4. I could settle for Achtung, War or Joshua. Just thought Joshua might be the people's fave.
  5. Early-midway peak for another band methinks? Is this happening for all bands? Or most on these polls? Must be something to do with creativity/youth and/or the life-cycle of the band and how much creative juices are in the band. And whether they allow the bottle-of-good-stuff to fill up again (due to time-off/new inspiration/whatever). One from War through to Joshua to win eventually?
  6. Didn't like FII on 1st listen but it really grew on me. The more song-oriented aspect makes for a nice departure when mixing up your DT playlist. Still DT's intricate playing for the most part. But I can understand people take it as 'not what Dream Theater is'. Certainly doesn't kill it for me.
  7. Closer to the heart. (Came up on my spotty random play - anyone remember that one? Bit forgotton by most methinks due to overplay...)
  8. Only know a couple of their albums but I'm disappointed they couldn't keep up their one-word-name-for-album pattern. Ok, well they messed that up on their 2nd album....and not paying attention to the title!
  9. I can understand some taking shots at Loss of Control and Could this be magic but I still prefer them over the 1st 2 album tracks. Loss of control's loss of control/madcap feel and up-tempo riff and playing is fun to my mind. Love Eddie's acoustic playing on Magic and the intro to Whiskey. But we knew he didn't need an amp since Spanish Fly. Let's face it - Eddie & co kept the variety going since VH 2 and it makes for an interesting album
  10. Gawd - I luv DT but I lost track with the last few albums. I just can't keep up with the discography of some of these bands. Do you all have large (wo)man caves to store all the Lps/cds/tapes etc (presuming we're not in the digital age only seeing that's more for the modern youth.....)! Have a soft spot for Falling into Infinity alongside the early big ones like Images, Awake and Scenes. Octavarium and Six degrees are fun too. But I lost the plot a bit after that...
  11. Seems to be a side 1 vs side 2 divide going on. Side 2 (plus Romeo) have always been my favourite. Still love the 1st 3 but EWS is too sloppy to be top notch for me. Fools' bass-heavy riff is fun though. Separating Tora Tora from Loss of Control seems slightly strange to me because I always thought Tora was LOC's intro. But maybe it's just how I heard it. But I can understand Tora Tora being eliminated 1st - it's just a nice and weird intro piece.
  12. No time to die. Very good and I like(d) the continuity of the Daniel Craig era but I'm curious as to what the next step will be in the Bond franchise after this.
  13. Wow - 1st time in a long time the last 4 matches with my favourites. Surprised OLA has lasted this long because I thought it was a deep cut that only I loved. A diverse album, considering the consistency in rockin tune on VH1, imo. Love it all but always thought DOA, LUTS and Somebody get me a doc were flawed gems but with the Doc being a particular fave of mine. Well it does have one of Eddie's best solos and riffs doesn't it? i.e. I can see why they all might divide opinion. Played the Doc to a Maiden/Pantera fan at work who hadn't dabbled in VH who just said 'Great riff but naff singing'. Who cares when the playing that's good! Have tried learning to play Spanish Fly on the classical but the tappin's not the hardest bit, it's all the rest of it!
  14. Stopped at Hysteria. Another band where I need to catch up with the later discog.
  15. Whole albums great. Departure from 1st with a bit of variety in tone etc. But for me, DOA and Light Up the sky being a the bottom. I suspect there is love for Light but I think the vocal part/melody is lacking and the uptemtpo nature of the song is good but not enough to save it against others. Bridge is quality though. DOA is fun but just messy. I can guess why others like it but imo doesn't match the rest here. You're no good is ok near the bottom but to me, level-ish with these.
  16. Is it hate or just a feeling that it's the least good of an outstanding group of songs? Least good.
  17. Pah! Cmon - the 1-2 of Women in Love and Beautiful Girls is one of the best things on this album. DOA should go - it's even announcing that it's passed away! But having to vote tactically instead...
  18. Was starting to listen to Whoosh! the other day as I try and connect with the newer Morse stuff. Thought it sounded ok. Would one say that DP don't have bad stuff in their catalogue then? I've only got Come Taste the Band, In Rock, Machine Head and Burn which are all damn good.
  19. Haven't heard all DP but the winner I'm guessing will be from In Rock, Machine Head or Burn? Most likely one of the 1st 2? Surely....
  20. Omg - need a few weeks off work just to go through a part of his discog! Was always put off by the initial image but when I got a bit more info about how good he was, I was interested. Haven't heard much by him though apart from a u-toob vid or 2 so more listening is still on my to do list.
  21. Don't have much or haven't heard much by some of these (Midnight Oil, Styx, Triumph) so wouldn't be able to take part but would be interested in the final results. So I guess one aspect of this is are there enough people out there who can contribute to the poll i.e. please do them all ideally/hopefully!
  22. Well I was going to go metal but in order to keep the female singers going I've gone for some avant-garde harp playing! 1. Grateful Dead - Terrapin Station (14:55) 2. 23. I know you guys are extolling the virtues of these albums, and they're both solid, but for me, I can go all the way down to at least The Miracle and not find too much difference in quality between all these albums. Yeah the albums have their ups and downs but Queen always seemed, to me, to have a consistency amount of good tunes on each album. I haven't actually heard the last 3 that much.
  24. Queensryche - Bridge Usually things I'm trying to play get stuck in my head for a while. Bridge is a good open-mic-/1 man+guitar type song.
