  1. It can't be denied that out of Signals, GUP, PoW, and HYf, the keyboard sit the most comfortably on this album.
  2. I'm not even saying they're worth exploring haha! They're one of the most "not for everyone..." bands there is. Even Carcass, who I mentioned alongside Napalm Death and went unnoticed, have been accepted by a broader group of people than "angry teens". Napalm Death do not take themselves seriously and laugh when people do. They know it's ridiculously over the top and the opposite of commercial. They're worth exploring it you're into things that are insane for the sake of insanity, which I enjoy. Think of them as if The Evil Dead was a band. It's over the top, violent, funny, controversial, etc. Is it going to win an Oscar? No. Do these qualities make it not a movie? Of course not. Napalm Death is human beings making sound with instruments. It's music that sounds noisy, but still music, even if you don't wake up humming it. P.S. like Aerosmith, they were also in the Armageddon soundtrack: the alternate ending where that meteor obliterates earth! Haha!
  3. So you changed Rocks to Sucks? And then put Napalm Death on the list? Just wanted to see how long it would stay like that lol. And at least ND never did Roll The Bones :P Too bad Napalm Death never did Roll The Bones. They would have had a platinum album instead of making a career out of recording unintelligible noise. I'm not surprised the general Rush fanbase can't appreciate something that doesn't have lyrics about trees and spaceships and isn't played with a "look how good I am!!!" attitude. I'm sorry you have such a shallow opinion of a them, but if you don't "get it" or like it you aren't likely to ever so I'll leave it at that. It's worth noting that they invented a genre, regardless of how artistically valid you think that genre is, that's saying something. How many bands on that list can that be said for? Your point is somewhat ironic, seeing as how you elected to change another poster's choice from "Rocks" to "Sucks." I'm guessing you're not an Aerosmith fan. So you're free to criticize Aerosmith, but criticizing Napalm Death somehow displays a lack of open mindedness? I'm surprised my Beavis and Butthead ripoff joke has gone this far. You're free to tell me why Aerosmith doesn't suck, that's how a discussion works
  4. Rush lyrics are like members of this forum: Most of them don't make sense, they think they're smarter than they are, and they peaked in the 80s!

  9. Somehow I lost my Counterparts CD about 5 years ago so haven't heard that album since. My opinion of it was outdated! That's a 9/10 album. To think I used to prefer Test For Echo over it!!! (I still like T4E)
  10. He's putting Sharpie to a flat surface either way. I'd rather have an illegible scribble on something I've loved for years than a book I haven't read yet.
  11. Generally they don’t let you bring anything, because if everybody had something they wanted him to sign besides the book, you could be there all day and night. But, if he’s only going to sign one thing and you switched it out, maybe it would be ok? I know that the bookstore in New Jersey doesn’t let people bring in backpacks, probably because they think people are going to still try to get other things signed, and it would just slow down the process. At the Grapes Under Pressure we were told not to bring anything because we'd be getting a special item signed by Geddy and Alex. We got the bottle of wine with the label signed by them, and now I don't know how to properly preserve it. Some of us broke the rule and brought items anyway, which they gladly signed...I wish I had done the same! If he does one in Vancouver and I end up going I'll try to bring something and let you all know!
  12. Hoping for one in Vancouver! So if the book is the "ticket" and they already have your money, could you bring a record and have him sign that instead of the book? I figure he's signing something either way and it shouldn't make a difference. Anyone have experience with this?
  13. Yeah I didn't want to touch on the lyrics but really.....
  14. My girlfriend and daughter are out of town so I came home yesterday night ready to relax only to find the cats had puked in 10 different spots around the house. On top of that, my girlfriend who's a stay at home mom, left the 2 weeks worth of dishes she said she would do before leaving. So by the time I'm done the dishes a(no washer) at 9 o'clock, I'm ready to take a shower but we're out of hot water for some reason. No shower. I finished dinner at 10, get into bed to watch something, and check my phone for the first time since I got home at 6 to find that my girlfriend is pissed that I haven't replied or asked how her trip is going. She's lucky I love her haha

GODFLESH - Pure Their 1989 debut album Streetcleaner is still their most highly regarded album but the following year with Pure they pulled in the reigns a bit and made a tighter, heavier, more cohesive masterpiece.
  16. I had a teacher in highschool who would see my Rush shirts and would always go "oh yeah I know that band uhhhh... The one about the suburbs!" He didn't know Tom Sawyer when I played it
  17. The economics and statistics of the decline of album sales and rise of online downloading is discussed very interestingly in the book How Music Works by David Byrne (from Talking Heads). It was a very eye opening book in every way. I remember him saying that if a Talking Heads song sells for $1.95 on iTunes, as 1/4th of the band, he sees like 10 cents
  18. Counterparts is lyrically fantastic to me. Especially CTTC, Double Agent and Cold Fire Cold Fire?? Holy hell. It's putrid. "It was long after midnight, when we got to unconditional love" So bad it should've been on Test For Echo. That's not even the worst line! She said just don't disappoint me, You know how complex women are. or It was just before sunrise when we started our traditional roles Oh Neil, please shut up. It's all just so cringeably bad. That song always felt like Neil trying to get away with Leonard Cohen-type blunt sex stuff
  19. But it's lower than the middle of Freewill for example and he nailed that for a while after
  20. I caught some flack a while back for saying "Tom Sawyer is my bathroom break" when I see Rush live. Partly because it's sooooo overplayed it just doesn't excite me anymore like less played songs. The main reason I don't like hearing Tom Sawyer live is this: The way he sings it the line "...is what you say about society". On the album, it's a descending note shriek that sounds glorious: "IS WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT SOCIETY!!!" Virtually every live version I've heard, he dulls it down to an awkward hiccup-y thing: "is WHAT you SAY about so-CI-e-TEE..." Am I alone in finding the way he sings it live extremely grating?
  21. I think it's almost certainly him pressing down on the string above the nut, as to my knowledge he wasn't using guitars with a tremolo at that time, unless of course he made an exception for that track. The sound seems to be in perfect time with the song, which, while coincidentially possible, makes me think the sound isn't an accidental artifact. I agree, it always sounded intentional to me but my guess was it was him tapping on the pickup. What do I know though
  22. I think The Analog Kid easily could have fit on MP. Every song from GUP, PoW and HYF could be on any one of those 3 albums IMO. p/g and HYF are interchangeable? Pretty close. They have a hugely different sound. Songs, production, everything... That's like saying Fly by Night and Permanent Waves are the same thing
