  1. Every time one of these bands comes back after a "farewell", I think about the fans who spent a ton to be at what was hyped as the LAST show and how royally pissed they should be. Rush did it right by saying 'it MIGHT be our last tour'. We all knew it would be (because we know Neil), but I don't think it would look as bad if they came back again since they didn't say "No really, THIS IS IT!!!! No bullshit!!! See, we even signed a contract!!!". More bands should follow that example. It also ticks me off though when fans think they're *entitled* to be told when it's the last tour. If you're interested in seeing a band, go see them now! Don't assume that because a band doesn't call it a farewell that there'll always be another time, because so many things can end up happening to prevent that.
  2. I agree with all of this. If I could only have 3 on a deserted island, it would be Paranoid, MOR and one of Vol. 4/SBS. Very difficult to pick the last one, but I lean towards Vol. 4. I tend to prefer raw Sabbath compared to how polished they began to sound on SBS. And even though MOR is short, it contains many absolute classics (not including Sweet Leaf, which is overrated IMO).
  3. Setlist is out. Pretty standard stuff except for a couple decent deep cuts. Biggest surprise is they played a couple of tunes from Ripper's albums. Would've thought they'd focus more on rarities. Most of them are songs Priest always play.
  4. With Binks on the drums, they should dig into some Stained Class goodness.
  5. Thanks. I used to work in the biz back in the 90s and got to meet many musical celebs. Because of my line of work, most were Country-Western and sadly, I'm not a fan. I actually had lunch with Garth Brooks when he was at the top of his game, and he was a super super nice guy. Made me wish I liked Country music. The biggest rock celebs I got to meet were Steve Perry and Mark Farner of Grand Funk. I also got backstage passes at a Boston concert back in 1988. All this to say, I think meeting celebs is a tad overrated. Especially since they'll never remember you a couple hours after the event. And I would MUCH rather go to a 3 hour Rush concert than spend 3 hours waiting in line in a moldy book store, but you make some great points. I'm leaning towards going. Maybe whoever is in line after me will be kind enough to take a few snaps with the iphone. Thanks again! Clem I'll be at Monday's signing. Planning to get there 2 hours before start time. If you'd like to coordinate so that I can be behind you in line and take your photos, you can pm me. I'm not setting high expectations on the 'meeting Ged' part of it. He really doesn't have more than 15-30 seconds he can allot to each person and with Austin's signing being the last one of 4 straight days (in 4 different cities!), I imagine he'll be a little extra weary. I'm just looking at it as a chance to see him in person (the only way possible at this point), get a quick hello and fist bump, watch him personalize my book and then take it home as a souvenir. I wouldn't have travelled anywhere for such a brief moment or probably even bought the book otherwise, but since he's actually coming to me, I'm quite happy to support him.
  6. Order the songs so that similar tempos and longer songs are spaced apart for a varied listening experience. Like with a good live setlist, start and end on a high note (fast or high energy songs that don't meander and that leave the listener with a buzz).
  7. I'd love to talk baseball with Geddy. He'd be my first choice, assuming he were able to loosen up. Alex, I think, would be the most funny, especially if you got him drinking. Really have zero desire to interact with Neil, which is perfect because I'm sure the feeling would be mutual.
  8. The Wizard War Pigs Hand Of Doom Fairies Wear Boots Lord Of This World Into The Void Supernaut Under The Sun Sabbra Cadabra Symptom Of The Universe
  9. Rock In Rio show is up (cuts into AH though and FOTD has no audio).
  10. Thanks for the heads up! Watching it now! All the other bands sets appear to be on YT, so I imagine this will be too.
  11. 1. Somebody Get Me A Doctor 2. I'm The One 3. Runnin With The Devil
  12. Yep, TFE is the least inspiring to me as well. VT, Presto and RTB are also down on the same bottom rung of least favorites.
  13. No question. So many classic bands I love used the same producer for several albums and that person almost became an extra member of the band for what they contributed that made those records that much better. Most new records nowadays are too compressed and brickwalled sounding for my taste. I'm still disappointed that Rush felt good about the way Clockwork came out sounding. I have no doubt it would've been much more listenable with Brown at the helm. Did you get the sense that Terry is still a Rush fan despite being sacked by them?
  14. La Villa Strangiato solo has to be up there. Also, Glenn Tipton's solo on "Beyond The Realms Of Death".
  15. Back In Black and Counterparts should make the list, IMO.
  16. So what would next year's film be? "CS 2 - The OTHER songs from R40"? :P Maybe they'll start screening some older footage. Seeing a double feature of ESL/GUPL on the big screen with concert level sound would be cool!
  17. So, I’m no Spring chicken, and neither is my fellow TRF’er who I went with. We literally walked in at about 630 maybe and were able to be three people back from the stage on the left-hand side, the key is go to either side, not the center. Not being very big, I was concerned with the crush of the crowd but I have to say it never really came. People got a little pushy when there was about three songs left and there was a bit of a scuffle for the picks when the show was over and that was a little scary because there was a lot of pushing and shoving, but for the most part I was quite comfortable and had some elbow room! (Of course we had to stand our way through the raven age) That's awesome you were able to comfortably enjoy the show that close up! The last sentence of your post is the biggest reason why I choose not to go the ga route. If you're early enough to claim a prime spot, you pretty much have to stay there until the show's over. Leaving to go pee, get a drink or check out the merch stands means you'll have to push your way through people to get close before the main act comes on and I hate doing that. Although I'm sure Maiden's audience today is mostly older and mellower than when I first saw them in 1987!

  19. I give them credit for admitting those critics look foolish now, but it just underscores that the whole notion of paying someone to be a "critic" (the title even implies you're looking primarily to be negative) is stupid. Haven't all of us had the experience of not loving a particular piece of music on first listen, but later changing that opinion once we've had time to really absorb it? I know I have, even for bands I ALREADY like. It's really unfair to new/mostly unknown artists to have pieces like that written about their work by people who most likely only listened deep enough to pull out enough negative analogies to fill up an article. Fortunately, as time shows, they don't end up having as much influence over public opinion as they think they should.

  21. I'm hoping to catch them in Houston or San Antonio. Looks like an incredible show with the staging and theatrics. Waiting for some more seat options to pop up. I'm really surprised to see general admission floor for arena shows, disappointed actually. I'm willing to pay to be up front, but I hate having to fight for it. Too old for that!

  23. Obviously there's plenty to question with a ranking of that many songs. But what really stuck out for me was Countdown at #12. I mean I like the song, but it ain't nowhere near their top 20. Also bizarre that he considers 51 songs to be worse than Tai Shan.
